My mom and I met Ghislaine Maxwell at a mall where she was looking for “young models” to be trained as “socialites and actors.” The deal was that I would fly to New York and stay in a mansion while I was “training.” Top that off, the cost of this “once in a lifetime opportunity” was $2,500. It was a plan that was all set up and I was supposed to meet her at the airport that weekend and my mom would pay for it and I would fly off. I was 14. It was 1997.
About 10 minutes before we were to leave for the airport, my mom got “a bad feeling about this whole thing” and refused to let me go.
At 14 I was pissed at my mom and how unreasonable she was being. Looking back, if she hadn’t gotten that bad feeling, I’d have wondered why she was too blind to see how absurd the whole offer was.

I completely agree. For when she said "I don't know why I ran away, I felt so guilty for doing (x, y, & z). When in reality, she was a kid. A CHILD. Her mother did not provide that unconditional love a parent should give so she felt the yearn to seek the validation somewhere else. Us as little girls, as women, we are not wanting to be r-ped or sexualized. That was the only way she felt wanted, even though her gut told her this wasn't right. Now that she's a full adult, she realized she was groomed and taken advantaged of.
As her how she feels it's her fault, no. For instance, If I had appeared to be weak, am I asking to be murdered?
Because of the way I look (as an easy target for a killer, enticing for a power thrill), should any of the blame be on me? Sure, I can then act tougher, look like I have a place to be, but I should not take the blame of being slaughtered. Same as a r-pe crime, they're both crimes with a perpetrator. For existing in whatever shape or form, that does not give a man the entitlement to kill, or r-pe.

Taking what responsibility you can for the consequences you have suffered is the MOST empowering thing she can do. You can’t derive an ought from an is. Teenage girls are sexualized and maybe that’s unfair but it is reality. So be conservative and classy when you dress. Dress and act as though you respect yourself. Unfortunately when you are missing love from a very early age, you don’t respect yourself and things will happen and you know no better. You don’t have the capacity to delay gratification because you’ve already been waiting over a decade for it and it hasn’t come. This is a very sad story and so common.

Everything that was done to you (it was never your fault, you were a child) has hurt you but something beautiful has blossomed and that's a testament to how beautiful you are. I also have experienced people 'giving up on me' even in friendships cos it feels when I'm not what satisfies they leave me, when I'm too emotional, or too this or that. Yesterday, I heard someone reference a line that Dr Drew would say regularly to people who called into his 90’s radio show, Love Line, and were in a situation similar to yours, seeking some advice. It was something about, if you’re having concerns of how to protect one of your kids, family members, friends, loved ones from risky behavior, alcohol & drug abuse, being mislead by their friends, succumbing to peer pressure, teenage pregnancy, etc, then your heart is in the right place. They are normal thoughts, and that person is lucky to have you in their life. Keep doing what you’re doing with your 9yr old daughter, ingraining the good morals & values that build character in a young person, in hopes of them making good decisions as they get older, especially when you’re not around. Hopefully, they’ll do the same with the people in their lives. Sadly, like this brave young woman, she didn’t have anyone in her life looking out for her, and the type of world she grew up in has left her trying to pick up the broken pieces of her soul to try to live a somewhat normal life. Her story is heartbreaking, and like others have commented, more attention needs to be given to this type of story. Some call Mark’s work exploitative, and shame him for profiting from their horrible stories. They don’t get what he’s doing. This interview is a perfect example of why he does his work. He gives a platform for people to share their stories, and raise awareness to help others come forward. We can’t fix the problems, if we don’t know what they are. I wish you well.

Her mother let him come around, knowing they were doing stuff like that. She also gave her daughter her first joint, her first alcohol and cigarettes to smoke, all at 12 years old. My stepdaughter was living with her father and me at the time. We didn't know anything about the other stuff because when she was with us she was a straight A student and we never really had much trouble with her, just normal teenaged stuff from time to time. She's 20 years old now. About 2 years ago she asked her mother why she let her date that boy and do stuff with him and why'd she let her smoke, etc. Her mom told her that she knew she was interested in it and would have done it anyway. Her mother actually said "You would have done it anyway and then what would I have done?" and got upset when her daughter said, "Stopped me, like a normal parent!"
The real reason her mother let her do all that stuff and did it with her, was her mom has always wanted to be the favorite parent and "the cool mom". Her mother had lost custody of her several months before letting her daughter drink, smoke, etc because of various abuses and still to this day, refuses to admit that she's done anything wrong, in any of those circumstances. Trying to be the favorite parent has actually had the opposite effect because they have a very strained relationship now and don't really speak.

Just to add some clarity to my comment. The reason why Kat had zero responsibility for what happened to her is that she was a CHILD. She was not a woman. Her brain was not developed enough to be able to make fully informed decisions about having sex with adult men. She was completely victimized by those men. Also the choices that she made were out of survival. When you are traumatized your pre-frontal cortex in your brain goes off-line and you make survival choices, not logical choices. The running away was her brain seeking safety from her home that was full of neglect. As for her choices now as an adult, I find it remarkable that she has chosen to redeem her ability to make choices about how she uses her body. She uses creativity and has control, something she had no choice when she was a young girl.

Whether it's explicitly physical or not as a hooker somehow doesn't matter in the end.. I wonder how she explains her lifestyle to her children after she's told about her parents.

First off [at] Kat : its incredibly brave what you did in this interview and its an immense service to society, raising awareness about this issue - hats off to you !! And also - thinking about whether I could openly talk about how I’ve been wronged and also how I have wronged other people -, is completely unimmaginable to me. So again, its not at all trivial what you have done !!
I read in another comment, that this reveals what America is truly about; even though I’m incredibly critical of American culture as a whole .. I think all of these issues are prevalent anywhere, where money . power . control mechanisms . ego play a major role in society. I’m from Eastern Europe, but live in Germany and we have exactly the same phenomena in society, just more neatly hidden, nicely tucked away under the carpet.
Ultimately what I took away from this interview (more so than any other so far) is that humans get hurt and they hurt others, but there is a way for the psyché and the soul to overcome pain and that is by being honest and truthful if not in front of others than in with oneself!
This is how our humanity can be rebuilt again

      Absolutely true! So horrifying!
So sorry you suffered this #Kat
      and all other #survivorsofabuse #innocentchildren #youareloved #youarevaluable ♥️🙏😭
Here are #RESOURCES to help #breakthecycle... They are free and powerful well designed 12-step programs based on the 12 steps of AA that have existed for decades and they can really help people #recover and transform their lives from #addictionandabuse.
One is called #ACA or #ACOA.
It stands for adult children of alcoholics but has been extended to include adult children of any dysfunctional family because in the dysfunction any reason you lack the critical love and guidance that all children need. The symptoms checklist helps people self identify whether this would be helpful and it is absolutely worth getting into because the symptoms are basically the same symptoms that are used to diagnose people with a lot of mental health problems but if you go that way they end up dragging you and doing talk therapy and I found it to be much more expensive and not as helpful and risky to to your body for side effects from drugs as well as self-esteem and stigma especially if you don't really get well.
With this group and the community of the resources that are extensive and proven over decades, with in-person and online meetings all over the world, one can heal quite a lot.
There are other twelve-step programs that address sexual abuse and bad sexual behaviors, and their inevitable outcome with histories of bad relationships and they include:
#SLAA, #SA, #SCA, #SAA and there were others called #ISA (infidelity), #SIA (incest survivors) and #TA (search "trauma anonymous")
For ALL groups, search initials above, and include the word "anonymous" (or sex + program or recovery or addicts).
Hoping whoever sees this summary of free powerful resources will use it or share it to heal from #abuse #neglect #sexualabuse #incest #trafficking #sextrafficking #addiction #healingfromabuse #healingfromtrafficking
      #mentalhealth #emotionalabuse #physicalabuse #spiritualabuse
      #healing #recovery #support

This woman is so incredibly self aware. She’s also intelligent, beautiful and so many other great qualities. It’s a damn shame that so many adults failed her as a child as it could have changed her trajectory in big ways. Being as smart and savvy and introspective as she is she could have soared in whatever interested her.
Lastly, please please don’t blame yourself for anything that happened to you as a child. It’s not your fault, it’s not because you dressed provocatively- it’s because you didn’t have proper adults in your life to make sure you didn’t dress that way. It’s a parents job to see around corners and stay keyed in to your child’s activities. Your parents should have pulled you in at this point and changed your path. It’s our job as parents. And good god its not even your fault for running away. Your parents should have grabbed you and figured out what was driving you to run and gotten you the help you needed. This isn’t on you. You don’t have the tools as a 15 year old to navigate why you do what you do. It fucking pisses me off that people have kids only to ruin them by giving up. As a mom of three I would have never have allowed them to run and live anywhere but my home. The first time would be their last. I loved my kids through it and they are now thriving adults all living healthy, stable lives. It would have been my fault if they were anything but. I was born and raised in Long Beach, albeit, an upper class suburb, but no matter where you are in Long Beach you’re only blocks away from from trouble.

I've been mol3sted at 13 by a man I considered an uncle, I've been r@ped many times, in DV relationships where I was knocked out & my teeth kicked out of my face 4 not having s3x wit & serving his friends beer nude! I then got in a 8yr relationship with another abusive man who was more emotionally & financially abusive but got physical at times I was told often that I have 2 much baggage for anyone to really love me or stay with me & I have 4 kids 2 are adults I had at 16 & 18 then 2 are 7& 8 so it's hard 2 even begin finding a relationship nevermind a genuine one! I now have my own YT channel (not this one but a Voice 4 the voiceless S.W.O.S) I'm working on it for survivors of mol3station, S/A trauma & addiction recovery healing a place for survivors to share their stories & I've had a few on there men & women but I also help catch p3dophiles who prey on our kids online & so I just wanna break the cycle raise awareness 2 this rarely spoken on yet never ending issue! I'm praying for all survivors that you get the healing you deserve & find the voices we have had taken from us when they took our innocence- we gotta fight back & take a stand 2 protect our children!
