- Today we're going to talk about The Legend of the Headless Horseman, otherwise known as The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. I touch a bit upon the Flesh Eating Albinos of Buckout Road. The CZcams Artist Collective's theme this month is "Urban Legends from your country." I'm American and from New York, so I picked an iconic story that is from nearby.
Like the music? Copyright free music from Kevin Macleod. :) This isn't intended to be a scary video AT ALL, but I thought the music was really awesome, so I used it. Had a lot of trouble trying to balance all of the music and my voice but...hopefully it's not too bad. I literally had to do 10 sound checks and re-render the final video 4 times. XD;;; I TRIED, GUYS. lol

The flesh eating albinos would have been cool...
Texas actually has a legitimate Headless Horseman urban legend.
When Texas was its own Republic, horse theft was a crime punishable by death since they were so valuable to the economy of the time. A Texas Ranger Ned Creed Taylor hired his friend and fellow Ranger William "Bigfoot" Wallace to help him catch a horse thief named Vidal who had taken some of his horses.
The rangers caught him, and decided to make an example of him. They decapitated him, tied his Headless corpse to a wild mustang, and strapped a Sombrero over his headless neck.
People began seeing him and the sight terrified them so much they opened fire on him, but would freak out when he kept riding. Finally, one day someone caught the horse, took Vidal's headless, bullet ridden corpse and buried it.
That didn't stop sightings of a headless Horseman with a Sombrero where his head should be from happening in the San Antonio area until as late as 1969.
Spoooooky.
This video is a little spooky! It's too bad the YTAC didn't save this theme until a little closer to Halloween! The art is really beautiful though and you definitely captured a creepy and haunting vibe.

Oh my god, hearing you tell stories is my favorite, Lemi! I love how the piece turned out, I think the contrast is really nice, and the composition works really well! I know you're a lot more comfortable with brighter colors, but I think you made really good use of the more muted tones in this one. ^^ I also adore how you imagine all the people in the story as Popeye characters! That was so cute.

I thought the headless horseman was an irish tale that they were the gate walkers to seek death to those who sin.
Apparently from my research there are multiple stories of headless horsemen over the years that this Washington Irving fellow was inspired by. I feel like this is probably the one who got the most commercial attention. D:
Bahhh I love it. I love all things spooky but I do love that you added the cute kitty pumpkin head lol. I’m totally picturing this in a kids version of this story in a book!

Yeah! There is a place called Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow that the story was written based on. Strangely enough I drove past it yesterday, I'm rarely in that area. Didja hear the one about the flesh eating albinos? There was even a movie about it so I was surprised I never heard anything about it. >_>! I bet NYC has some cool stories... I should check into that.
As for the art theft! I should go watch your video! I haven't really been on YT as much as I'd like to. :( Been so busy with life stuff that I'm behind on my video watching. You know I always love your videos!

I haven't heard of flesh eating albinos, that just kind reminds me of a wendigo, which is a man eating monster. oh theory, what if the albinos are just wendigos but some how they don't get sun so they are albino's. that's kind of terrifying tbh lol.
I was looking into nyc urban legends and one that always comes up is alligators in the sewer tbh I don't believe it for a second. coz the story is basically these ppl from Florida come to live in ny and they bring their pet baby aligator but it ends up getting too big so they flushed him down the toilet. but some say there are albino alligators in the sewer b/c of the lack of sun.

tbh I always thought Icabod turned into the headless horseman after getting the head thrown at him? idk I dont even think I read it properly. It's probably a weird thought that makes no sense anyway. Anyways this drawing is 10/10 as always.
