My footage shakes, or may seem unattended at times, but that is while I'm taking photos or moving around the scene. I think we’d all be better off if that department simply delivered the trucks and equipment to the scene, then let the citizens take over and use it. That Chief with his giant ego and absolutely nothing to back it up makes a huge mess out of every situation he arrives on. I’m honestly surprised his guys don’t stand up to him. I am not a fire fighter I would love to be one, I have a calling to help others in many ways one spiritually but I believe in the physical sense of doing what I can. In this video within minutes i seen a handful of what not to dos and a few that seemed to not know what to do, whether they were mentally groggy or physically groggy but just seem that the direction was not there from the battalion captain or the Chief on sight . Just seemed off. I think one line should had been used preventative to the adjacent house I believe on the Bravo side ( right side video or left side of house). I think the one who went up alone to break windows was a little hmm...dangerous as he broke the one set and flames immediately came out he got lucky really lucky. The 2nd set of windows the way the smoke came out Nearly made me think of a back blast in the making you could see the pressure built up but i think by breaking the first it relieved some of the pressure that could had been dangerous. please correct me if i am wrong and Please feel free to contact me on here Id love to ask some questions.

@@mikemuppet3807 learn first then you make comments. Until you complete the mandatory NFPA training to become a firefighter your words carry little weight. Example the alpha side is the front of the structure. The bravo side is the side that is on the left when facing the structure. The charlie side is the rear of the structure and the delta side is to the right when facing the structure it always goes clockwise around the structure. Smoke explosions are always a constant danger and any trained and experienced FF knows that which is why they stand to the side when breaking windows the other thing is if you can see the fire or the interior of a room then the danger of a smoke explosion is minimal. One final thing back blast, this is not a correct term it is called a backdraft or smoke explosion.
I hope you do pursue a career in the fire service and I think it admirable that you are wanting to be a firefighter. The best advice I have for you is listen to your training officer and the officers once you are allowed on the fireground doing so will greatly increase you knowledge and while you are learning may save your life.

@@retiredvolly8682 Sometimes common sense is the best action one can take!! Why was the house on the Bravo side not protected from the beginning like that on the other side ( Delta)? The firefighter smashing the front windows to allow the heat to get out of the structure had a narrow escape. When he saw the reaction to his first smashed window he should have retreated as it was obvious the other one would do exactly the same! That said there was no immediate backup from any hose/deck gun to take advantage of these two broken windows! (For that matter the very effective Deck Gun was very slow to get powered up and to assist in the fire. Eventually water was injected throught the windows to good effect! As a matter of interest why was the deck gun left pouring water onto the street and taking no part in the effort??? All in all a pretty poor show for this chief and his control of the equipment and his guys for they are after all, only doing what they are told. Well covered Steven

The ladder was positioned under the cable lines. Better use of the ladder would have bean between the height tension and the cable service no need to put anybody on it. And on top of that the ladder should have aimed the water into the attic. Fire would have been knocked new at a greater rate.

@@glennhuber4975 So instead of attacking you im going to give you something to think about instead of joining the nonsense that is spewed on youtube. We can start from the attic and work our way down. When the video starts the attic space is fully involved (untenable). The second floor is 75% involved and when the windows were vented on the "A" side it instantly flashed thus making the 2nd floor untenable and killed everyone in it. Had there been a victim on that A side 2nd floor he was already dead and companies would of never been able to make that push even in pre flashover conditions. The fire load would need to be dealt with. The first floor definitely was ripe for an aggressive search on the A and B sides. Master streams on the 2nd and attic would have zero steam concerns for the first floor. The engine had the right idea at the start of the video but it was placed incorrectly. The guys on scene here understood big water and they attempted an exterior knock with multi 2 1/2 hose lines. A well placed and suppled engine with an initial deck gun and then hose lines interior for mop up would of done wonders.

@@JB91710 @JB91710 you weren't there so you know nothing of what was actually going on. Defensive fire fighting involves surround and drown as well as protection of exposures to isolate the fire to the fire building in this case the crews did their best and the fire building was a loss on arrival So the fire attack was eventually transitioned to an interior attack after the main body of fire was knocked down. I know this because I observe everything and don't close my mind to what others have to say. I know you are an asshole who thinks he knows better than anyone else. Also you are an idiot who does not give respect to others the male version of a Karen. You would do much better sticking to your replica car builds.
Why does vertical venting work? This is simple the Combustion reaction creates heat and causes a coefficient of expansion that produces gasified compounds and pressure. The combination of pressure and the tendency of heat to rise because of lowered density from the cooler air entering the structure and the openings created by the fire attack companies pushes heat and smoke up and out through the roof. I do agree that there are times when vertical venting should not be done, however there are times when it can be both a victims and firefighters best friend.

Flow the line, stop the flow, look around, flow for a second, then repeat. Then it all made perfect sense when the "chief" came into the picture, what a joke. Being a chief means so much, having the knowledge, experience, intellect, and leadership are just a few of the biggies. Guess in New Kensington none of that matters, what does is how loud you can bark and who's got the best mustache. Instead of establishing a central command post this guy is running all over the place screaming because his guys aren't doing what they should be. Well if he kept his ass at the command post, he could disperse the other white hats as satellite command units and wouldn't have had to be everywhere at once. But nope. What are Chief's doing stretching exterior handlines? A Chief's job is to supervise and control. The firefighter who vented the front windows from the porch only gave the fire a flow path. The porch window should have only been vented to allow a Large Caliber Stream or 2 1/2" handline to attack the fire. Exposure Protection of the #4 or D exposure should have been done with a large caliber stream or at least Two
2 1/2" Handlines. Once the units were backed out of the building Large Caliber Streams, preferably with a Tower Ladder operating into the windows would have been better. Don't mean to critique brother firefighters but we must learn from our mistakes.

Not to sure where to start, the chief usually stands back so they can be objective in the orders they give, they calmly give there orders over the radio or speak to the junior officers, not shout or pick up hose to fight the fire themselves, if they want to wear a BA set and handle the hose then revert back to the rank of Ff. Because he was so tunnel vision on certain aspects of the fire he could not see the big picture therefore he did not use the crews and equipment to it's full effect.
If the OIC shouts at the crews and runs around like the fire ground as if the situation has got away he will convey that filling the crews, he is there to run the job and instill calmness at all times to the crews.

My observation was poor water supply. Was it hydrants or tankers. I believe hydrants. If older watermains the firefighters are screwed from the start. Everyone complains about no water being put on fire. Well here is an explanation of potential issues. Old mains have reduced volume because of build up inside. 8 in can be reduced to almost 4 in because of build up. Also chunks break away and make obstructions. Do you think a new pipe and an older pipe have same flow rate? No the uneven build up causes disturbance reducing flow drastically.
I witnessed lines doing a dance. From a steady stream then others dropped. They couldn't get pressure to all the lines. Then a deck gun or ladder stream tekes all the presure. Remember taking a shower and someone used water your spray dropped and even got hot or cold water till the person shut off the faucet..
People don't realize how a bad watermain system screws the complete system. If str main connects to another bad man. Going far away to another hydrant you take water and reduce pressure down stream. A good main will allow water to be used in a hydrant and still have water and pressure in all directions.

I don't know if that was on purpose or not, but it would have been a good idea to leave it before fire spread to the eves of the exposure. This is not criticism, but a professional observation. How the fire started is one question, but how it was handled raises so many more. I would recommend submitting this to the department for training purposes if you have not already. Much more study and training is needed. Particularly regarding "fire push." Not a judgement. Just a recommendation for safety and efficiency. Great filming regardless sir! Much better coverage than you think you did. 👍

Fire Chief doesn't even use a radio to manage and incident. I guess that's what you call door control....assistant chief goes and propts open front glass storm door?

    • @aportman58
      @aportman58 Před 3 lety +2

If you watch closely when AC decides to prop open front porch storm door, immediately 2 side lights up with fire. There probably was a line on the 3 side it was knocked down pretty quick. If I’d been operating interiorly I probably would have come out and been in the AC face for opening and propping open door creating a flow path accelerating fire. Probably would have also been my last day on the fire service.

My big things were how slow they were to protect the D Side Exposure, the house is pretty much gone, so they eventually got the hint but not until the side of the D side exposure house already caught, notice once they deployed the 2.5" that knockdown was pretty swift at that point
