A lot of the FL teacher shortage isn't pay (altho that is a big problem). I'm a teacher but I'm afraid to teach under the Draconian rules he has in place. Mention of gays could invite personal lawsuits by schools & parents. Heaven forbid we should acknowledge slavery or genocide took place in our history. Or that the confederacy was not a just & moral outrage, but was an effort to maintain the institution of owning other humans. And my word, how will we ever keep kids from learning about the total eradication of black towns after the civil war? Now that we have a National Day commemorating Juneteenth, it's kinda hard to sweep under the rug. But that's what DeathSantis' laws & efforts want teachers to do .. under penalty of law.

@Kim Miller Martha's Vineyard is a pristine tiny island known for its exclusivity. It's been a very private refuge of the ultra powerful and powerful. It's extremely expensive. The many, many employees who nanny, cook, garden, guard, launder, drive, and clean MV do not live on MV. When the Obama family bought their place it probably multiplied the non-White population x 10000%. Massachusetts is known for its Yankee independence and is dead last for charitable giving, so maybe he thought they'd be cruel. I lived in MA for nearly a decade. I found "Yankees" to be very private and quite emotionally reserved, but even though I wasn't inundated with casseroles when I bought a house, those "Yankees" showed up without prompt or pay to snowblow my drive when bad weather hit. Additionally, I am persuaded that the reason they are last for charitable giving is because the Congregational church was state-sponsored in the early years and personal "ownership" was not encouraged. Dramatic, fluffy, sweetness isn't a well-known trait, but self-sufficiency is. So is kindness. And Generosity.

As a non-American, I went to San Diego the other year. I was shocked at the poverty and garbage given it is a very liberal state. America appears to be in deep decay and neither the blue or red team appear to have solutions. Unfettered immigration of low skilled people is ecomonic suicide. Canada is doing well, but it has a very strict skills based immigration program and requirement to prove you will not be a burden and contribute to society that would probably be considered racist in the USA.

For example Brookline is a beautiful, gorgeous, pedestrian friendly, affluent city with direct access to the center of Boston. Hell Boston itself recently took in more than 5000 Ukrainian refugees! and we too get a lot of immigrants on a daily basis. Are you forgetting that MA is a port state? Do you know how many Muslims we took in when Europe kicked them out? Desantis refused to work with any receiving municipality and dropped 50 people, men women and children, with zero resources on an island in the middle of their off-season. That is cruel and inhumane. Most of the businesses are closed right now. Most of the housing there are closed hotels and historical buildings. They are still recovering from flooding that happened a few years back and they have a sizable coyote population. I swear the ONLY reason he didn't drop them off in the middle of the ocean was because of the price to find a pilot that would go through with it. The best part is that after everything, one of the smallest states in the country still proved to be better than all of Texas and Florida combined.

And yeah, that's what this is.
