- The Drones from halo are a pretty interesting creature. Ive covered quite a few species so far and the biology of these particular aliens actually makes sense. So with that said lets dive into the lore and morphology of the Yanme'e and figure out how and why they were adopted into the covenant!
Thanks for watching Roanoke Gaming and I hope you enjoy The Yanme'e Evolution and Biology Explained | Drones Buggers Flying Bugs | Halo Lore and Morphology

Thanks for watching guys! So I am going to pull back the release date on my videos as work in the lab is getting pretty heavy so youtube is getting tougher to keep up with! Expect a video every 5 days rather than 3! If you guys enjoyed this video then leaving a like helps the video! If you are new, subbing would be very bro of you! Hope y'all have a good day!
Perhaps, in the future, you could do a theory on what would have happened had humanity joined the Covenant?
Quality over quantity my dude, not all youtubers actually follow that rule.. in my opinion. You'll always have somebody watching and enjoying your crafted videos.!
@@thelastroman3177 I'm going to go out on a limb a say, just like with most everything else.. there are gonna be a few crazy or bad apples that ruin it for everyone else.. 'Murica!
Do you think you can start doing biology of species in the destiny universe?
Can you do agents biology from hitman?
Oddly enough, it's said that the covenant introduced the drones a little bit before the events of halo 2....but yet their in halo reach
That's right! I actually forgot they were in reach!
but if I recall correctly, they were also on Harvest
Because reach was made after halo 2. The lore is the supreme commander (later Arbiter) didnt had drones under his command when he was on Halo.
@@RoanokeGaming I didn't know they were on harvest
Yes there was a drone mantance crew on the first ship that attacked harvest
In the book halo: contact harvest
Oof, forgot these buggers existed. Great video as usual
RIGHT?? I used to not think about them either, glad you enjoyed it bro!
Am I the only person that always called these aliens Vespids? I feel like it sometimes
now that i know they can jurryrig human tech to talk to them. i want to see ally drones talking
God could you imagine a million voices going at once
There just flying around cussing people out
I'd say I miss fighting them but then I remember ODST and I think. "Nah I'm fine"
"Use that cave man strength" lmao I don't know why but found that so funny
Also your discord sucks I can't even say hi to you or give you a good morning or I get removed
Seeing as they were already spacefaring, I wonder what kind of weaponry they had, might be cool to use some of it?
A electro lantern they cannot resist
Would love to see them again. Maybe even a flood variant. Edit: How does a animal hive mind work compare to something like the necromorph, when it comes to thinking capabilities?
Same way other eusocial insects, like ants, bees and wasps, communicate with pheromones.
@@prehistorichero2755 Thanks I've seen lots of "hivemind" creatures in sci-f. I wondered if an actual hivemind would be mindless drones or if they were capable of the very least the ability to think but still compelled to work for the collective good.
@@zionleach3001 I personally prefer sentient non-reproductive castes in science fiction, because it’s realistic compare to real-world biology. Heck, Xenomorph Drones can still function even when their Queen dies, and here in Halo, it was shown that Drones can still be sentient without their Queen.
So, guys, we did it. We reached a quarter of 100,000 subscribers.
Kek
Laughs in 500K
Based as fuck.
5 days, 3 days, makes no difference to me my dude. As long as you upload quality content as usual.
and with 5 days I should be able to hash out the video a little better!
These are why I wish the standard Spartan arsenal includes Titan bug spray.
Master chief IS the bug spray!
Roanoke Gaming Reminds me of that Mjolnir Flood bug zapper meme
FINALLY thanks more species pleees
absolutely! I am running out of species, I think I really only have the engineers left!
@@RoanokeGaming nice i love how you use your knowledge it feels like vsauce biologist gaming mix
That pyrocynical reference just won you my subscription lol
I Honestly Not surprised that they can Pick up Humans with ease. Higher gravity usually means naturally higher muscle Mass. On lower gravity its strength increase if Not downright multiply. The best Chance to beat it is to aim for the eyes (lets be real, going for the sensory Organs is always the best bet) they do seem to be large and squishy enough to be penetrated with a well placed punch. Risky but thats your best bet to atleast somewhat disable it. An Other way would be get between the larger plates and pry them off. Thats like ripping somebodies Skin off. The pain alone could Kill it there.
agreed! they are more than likely much stronger than humans as well but a nice shotgun blast to the face makes everything okay lol
True that. Then again is there any creature that you cant subdue with a good old gauge 12 to the head? Except really big ones of course. :D
At that point just break out ye olde buck shot! haha
I love these videos, and I honestly can't believe you aren't more popular. Keep doing great work!
I love how detailed your videos get.
Anyone remember a Bugs Life? Yeeeah what a great film..thank you drones for showing me what happens if that movie concluded with a bad ending. Oddly enough the Drone's and elites were my two favorite enemy types from the Covenant.
Thumper was an Ass tbh
if anything that piss my off the most from halo have to be the drones, I just get off run by them
and nobody would blame you lol
Finding out you watch Pyro makes me love your channel more.
Love your Content and channel !!!
Thanks for the video
Was waiting for this. +1
Hope you enjoy it bro!
"Game end you. Yes, i too watch pyrocinical"
he makes pretty good content!
my most favourite species in the lore.
I was waiting for this😀
hope you enjoyed it!
Roanoke Gaming I did
These buggers were somewhat of pain on legendary difficulty, just like a grunt, one is a walk in the park but a bunch of them will shred your shields and then you.
Anywho great vid!
Im addicted to your videos
If I remember the flood don't like them much and just use them for biomass it's also difficult to infect because of the underdeveloped nervous systems and it's hefty exoskeleton
What a wonderful birthday present!
nice refrence to a big boi youtuber didnt expect you to watch pyro i thought you were a more serious person but i still enjoy your content the most
Pyro has a lot of wit, I find his dry sense of humor pretty funny! I appear serious but as you see, I enjoy the occasional meme haha
well you are right about that but like i said i really like both memes and the biological type of content so you really fill both of those kinda "roles" or whatever point is i like your content and im glad you make it just dont burn yourself out
They may be overshadowed by the other forms of Covenant, but replay the Crows Nest mission of Halo 3 on Legendary and tell me theyre not terrifying
Tough not so little buggers aren't they, another great video man I wonder how the covies were able to combat them on they're planet into terms of infantry as I'd imagine even the elites would find damn hard to fight on double the gravity
You've mentioned doing 40K a couple if times. If you do, Space Marine augmentation is a good place to start since there's so much information on it. Be interesting to see your take on it.
When u said when adrenaline is flowing in a human they have been known to beat bears to death with firewood I started cracking up
glad you enjoyed it! haha
I actually looked it up. A 45 year old Canadian man was walking his dogs and was attacked by a black bear. After suffering severe injures to his head and torso, the man beat the bear to death with a tree branch, eventually crushing its skull.
yeess finally!!
You know what a great weapon against swarms of these things would be?
- A fully automatic shotgung with a long barrel, sort of like a mix between an AA-12 and these guns british people use to shoot at birds.
- A light (20mm or something like that), fully automatic grenade launcher firing fragmentation shells with proximity fuses, essentially a portable Flak gun!
You could also combine the two using HE shotgun shells with proximity fuses.
You know who to call
The Bugbusters... I'll see myself out the door.
Seems like a joke Id make!
When given the choice of only one weapon to fight against a Yanme'e...a concentrated can of Raid. XD
Niiice :)
Never thought drones were so competent. I actually thought they were below jackets because in game they drop with less effort.
they are weaker, but apparently they out rank them, a pretty cool fact I learned!
"Not feeling fear" Actually im pretty sure in Halo 3 if you wipe out enough of them, they sometimes hold their hands over their heads and run away.
hello roa thanks for ur warm welcome on ur discord server just joined today and am very happy there nice people etc thanks man and i was waiting for this video a long time ago aince i always loved the drones i feel like they are cool ans better star wars geanosians tbh i do know that G. lucas didnt intens to copy halo here with engineers for bugs he simply got the idea from his house once get invaded by locusts still i enjoy yanme e more thanks for making this video man and dont worry 5 days wait time for a quality video is ok best pf luck on ur heavy work in the lab cheers and god bless man
absolutely man! the people there are a little quirky sometimes but everyone seems to get along haha and bugs can be quite annoying, guess that's why they BUG people!
Could u do Vidoes like this for some of the creatures in the destiny universe?
Love ur videos!!
WITNESS MEEEEE!!!! good vid btw.
wassuh dude
Hey Roanoke what's up bro I loved the video and I saw you've been working in the lab a lot ..... makeing necromophs I see
Exactly! I mean, ive got to study them some way right??
Don't release them on humanity until you have all of them
Of course! we need it to be atleast mildly interesting haha
Also, I'd love to see a breakdown of some races from mass effect, like krogan and the Geth (even though they aren't really alive) it could be really interesting, even if the franchise is dead.
Nice Signs reference
If all the other Covenant races will be in Infinite especially the Brutes and hopefully Skirmishers I’d love to see the Drones comeback!
That would be quite excellent!
Aren't skirmishers extinct tho?
I think it would also be a good note to say that they probably have to molt in order to grow and i think their back abodmen legs may be used to deposit eggs
thats a good point and it probably would have fit in perfect with the video!
Nice shot of a mating congregation of "Chauliognathus lugubris" beetles. Sorry, whenever I see insects/acari in videos I feel compelled to identify them to the best of my ability.
You forgot to mention family structure of the drones.
Never knew Roanoke watched pyrocynical.
the more you know
I noticed that "Signs" reference lol. "Swing away Maero" lol. As a kid, that movie did scare the shit out of me lol.
Gotta give credit where credit is due, these buggers can rip apart tech in seconds.
yes they can!
Depending on whether they developed lungs or not, they should actually have incredible difficulty maintaining their oxygen levels. The reason why we don't see giant insects these days is because there isn't enough oxygen in the atmosphere to keep their bodies saturated (insects breathe through their skin).
Would be most nice if the Drones were to make a return
he Roanoke i think it would be interessting if you do a biology video on the chimera from the resistance series
Don’t try to break the drone’s carapace, if you have a knife you weren’t really unarmed but still you want any blade or sharp object, even just a shard of glass from a breast window or something, and stab between the armor and attack the head, if it picks you up you need to force it down somewhat slowly, with a gun that’d be easier because you could hold onto its legs while you shoot one of its wings a few times, if it still doesn’t drop or start falling shoot the corresponding song on the other side, repeat until either you lose your grip on it and fall to your death or it gets lands or gets so low to the ground that you can safely drop down. In either case congrats you basically just won because it can’t fly well with you in its grasp and will have to let go, you can also shoot it a lot now and kill it as one does.
I hope 🤞 I would like to see them again
MY BOY WATCHES PYRO, NEW FAVOURITE CHANNEL
Also have you thought of doing the morphology of bioshock?
I very much so enjoy Pyros wit, and the 250k meme haha and In the future I for sure plan on covering some bioshock!
Roanoke Gaming I’ve been watching pyro since he had 40k, he’s always been a witty meme lord tbh lol. That’s good to hear, should be pretty interesting to hear your interpretation of some of mutations and creatures in the series
They encountered the convent in 1112 CE literally during the Middle Ages way before harvest lol
Weird, I don't remember these guys at all and I played quite a bit of Halo. I love a big bug though
Drones aren’t dangerous, jackal snipers are. They’ve game ended me so damn much
Hi Roanoke Gaming are you going to doing a morphology on stalker call of Pripyat and the uther games?
Hey I think it would be cool to examine if the Doomslayer could turn the tide against the necromorphs. Some things that could be used is the fact he doesn’t seem to age, after his dip in Hell he become incorruptible so the marker wouldn’t affect him. His suit absorbs energy much like the energy the markers use to reanimate and keep the nercromorphs alive. I think it would be a cool crossover where the line “knee deep in the dead” is pretty accurate.
Oh lord, honestly man, I don't think it would even be a contest, I may be able to do that down the road but Doom Slayer being an absolute badass, would crush the necromorphs
Oh shit, thanks for the reply.
0:44 we will
I'm thinking, maybe judo techniques would be effective against them, exoskeletons tend to be less flexible than exoskeletons and you wouldn't have break the carapace.
Great video, what I'm interested is how they breath, do they have lungs like us or like insects on hearth? In the latter case I don't know how they survive at all on a planet or spaceship with an atmosphere similar to earth.
Man, good guy Roanoke uploading a video; 13 hours after a post explaining less videos. You da man Oke
Absolutely bro! I still love working on these and making them! just might be lagging behind a bit in the coming weeks!
Big man!
ayyyeeeeeeee
Dude, have you ever thought of doing these bios for warhammer 40,000 ? I feel you would get a kick out of the biology of the Orks
So, the creature must have a respiratory system different from that of earthly bugs, otherwise they would not get enough oxygen. Furthermore, they probably have some kind of internal skeleton as well for their muscles wouldn't be strong enough to hold them attached only to the carapace. Finally I never really got the "not feeling fear" part; do they not have a sense of self-preservation? Or is it a situation like the a cockroach victim to A. compressa and the "not hive-mind ones" are like the actual healthy ones... I'd get a tinfoil hat for that last one
agreed, I would imagine it would have a dedicated circulatory system to distribute nutrients, as for a skeleton I do not believe they have that but perhaps ligament like pieces running through the body allowing them movement, as for the hive mind mentality, correct! they don't feel fear or self preservation because the hive is more important than their life
Though in that case it would be fear of the destruction of their hive and that fear leads them to defend it, otherwise they would be like "meh"
I think the best way to deal with one would be grapple the limbs and break them (like breaking a tree branch in half), the joints should be relatively weak (comparatively). Once you can dissable a few limbs it will probably flee or if you can hit the wings they will probably break extremely easily due to their thin nature (again relatively). This would pretty much doom it if you get the arm crippled and manage to get a wing as it tries to escape. You just have to hope your armor holds up long enough for you to do this, and of course any weapon or improvised weapon would help.
Wow I completely forgot how interesting this species is. I hope we start seeing them in Halo again because I could imagine them joining Cortana along with the Grunts
They are pretty cool! I hope to see them as once you beginning learning about them, you see how formidable they actually are
In hand-to-hand combat I think I'd go for ripping off its antenna and sticking it in its eye to blind it and then probably get behind it and start tearing at its wings but that's just me. I don't know if you'd actually be able to kill it if it's anything like a real bug it wouldn't bleed out and you couldn't drown it so you'd probably have to dismember it more like you said pick something up and beat it to a pulp.
As "David Attinbero" said: "Apon first seeing a "Drone" I expressed a deep seated desire to nuke the bastards from orbit."
hahaha
Luke himself had to give me a pass on the out of ammo thing when i told him, I myself have around 3-4,000,000 rounds of ammo and counting. That and man sized pocket knife i always carry. I think that's enough for personal use right? Not to mention i have everything from 22LR to 300 windmag so...
OH BUGGER!
now everyone's gonna think i copied your video, some parts of my script are very similar, especially the part about fighting a yanme'e lol. Good video though
I'll make sure to pack my RAID heavy duty
Those damn bugs
always the bugs man
You should do Dark Souls monsters, like the mimic.
Get the bugspray boys.
This is why master chief needs a can of RAID
Just set bug traps in the vents!
Marines and ODST have been seen one shot punching drones
All I know is that Drones are larger versions of those annoying, green little bugs that always fly into you. And they are almost as tall as me (6'1")
Alright so this may seem old but, can you do the analogy over some creatures in Red Faction? More specifically Red Faction: Armageddon, The Plague; Wraiths.
I actually didn't know this about the drones this was actually really interesting! They always seem really dumb to me.
These things have a face only a queen could love
Nah, still better than grunts
Have you done the hunters from halo, those giants scared every time I encountered those things
I have! Further down the list!
I didn't get notified this time... *Angery intensifies*
GOD BLESS IT CZcams....that is seriously annoying, Guess my channel has been shadowbanned
i did not know drones existed until this video
Glad I could get you the info!
If you ever run out of things to cover the infestation in Warframe is pretty interesting
Aye I cought that sighns reference
Surprisingly enough, big bugs are right buggers.
because of the lack of air resistance on their homeworld due to less dense atmosphere, (which does not make sense for a high gravity planet, but anyway,) this would make the gravity just that little bit more deadly, and would make the wings even better suited to create lift (pretty cool) but their strength would be increased if they use a hydraulics system within their bodies to move like earth insects (assuming that they are fighting in a lower gravity environment)
not a scientist
I don’t really like bugs but these guys are actually kinda cool 😎 also there’s one thing I don’t understand what you’re talking about here but if the precursors created all the civilisations that means unfortunately they didn’t evolve naturally and wait humans with adrenaline pumping through them have beat bears to death holy shit man that is absolutely fucking amazing😄😄😄😄😎😎😎😎😊👍🏻!!!
Its been so long since i played halo i forgot the drones existed lol
yoh, make a viva piñata biology and evolution explained video, im still wondering how those MF came to be
I've always wondered why they don't use bigger guns but they can carry a marine
