  • The brutes of halo are, as their name implies, brutish creatures who resemble bears with an attitude to match. But what morphological characteristics do they have that make them such a foreboding enemy? Lets jump into their lore and find out!

      Jiralhanae and Cure, we should assume the cov. forces in new mombase were weak troops meant to temporarily fortify and secure locations behind their own frontlines. The ODSTs sent were a special pick team for a certain job by ONI, we can safely assume they would have been perfect candidates for the spartan III program, maybe even SII. However you could play through Halo 3: ODST more realistically on legendary difficulty.

    If I remember correctly, the Spiker in particular (the main weapon you talked about) uses similar technology to T'au pulse weapons from 40k. The magazine contains a set of ferrous slugs, which are mechanically fed into the "chamber", which is either a magnetic coil or rail, where it's induction heated to near its melting point and then fired, drawing it out into a spike as it's fired.

      Roanoke Gaming Your hypothesis on the dinosaurs is extremely wrong. During the Cretaceous and Jurassic Periods, earth had 10% oxygen. Ice cores from the arctic confirm this. Dinosaurs were monstrous in size because of their. Hollow bones. Think about a chicken which has really small legs and wings for its body. Yes their bones are easy to break but think about a mammal of similar size vs similar weight.
      Both will have much much more bone mass than a chicken.
      Hollow bones for dinosaurs is the equivalent of titanium vs steel. Meaning if the mass is the same, there would be less weight and more tensile strength compared to steel/regular bone.

    • @calebreynolds9183
      @calebreynolds9183 Před 6 lety +5

      Alex T. The actual holes in hollow bones more or less reduce the volume but keep the surface area the same.
      Surface area can be roughly equated to strength (used to act upon other objects and to hold yourself up), while volume can roughly be equated to dead weight.
      That’s it you want to look at it from a square-cube law perspective.

    Considering they would have evolved on a planet with higher gravity, their height adaptations make sense. A longer lever is more efficient (can generate more force easily), and bones and joints are basically levers. Longer bones would also allow for longer muscles and greater muscle cross-sectional area, further increasing force output and their ability to withstand higher gravity.
    I think the misconception that higher gravity would produce shorter creatures come from the fact that astronauts become “taller” in space. This is because the very low gravity reduces the compression on the skeletal system, adding a small amount of length to the body.
    However, this isn’t really an adaptation to this environment so much as it is a consequence of it. If a human were born in space or on a considerably low gravity planet and brought back to earth, they would be too weak to function. Why? Because their bones and muscles wouldn’t have had nearly the amount of stimulation they would have received on earth.
    Bone and muscle are highly adaptive to force stimuli, and if there basically is no stimulus they wouldn’t have the stimulus to grow to normal sizes. That being said, it would more likely be that such a person would not develop properly at all, not just being shorter and weaker, but dysfunctional. They would most likely have to be exposed to a different level of gravity over a longer period of time for adaptations to be permanent or functional.

    • @RoanokeGaming
      @RoanokeGaming  Před 5 lety +18

      well in theory it should, because while a larger lever is better the issue remains it puts more stress on the lever as well, and when working with organic material that's not always a good thing!

      Technically, higher gravity CAN, actually, result in a proportionately shorter, stockier build while muscle mass and bone density would proportionately increase. This could, possibly, mean that if a population lived their entire lives in a lower gravity world, they might become even taller with proportionately less muscle mass and bone density. The Expanse explored this realistically and, on my end, I have my own story I'm writing which explores these things.
      One of my aliens is shorter than the average human by a few inches overall and has denser bones and stronger muscles because their gravity is noticeably higher than Earth's. The difference in gravity isn't so high Humans can't survive, but they will notice it and entire populations of Humans would adapt to it over time, probably resulting in a similar build to the native population. One thing I am definitely planning on using at some point is a confrontation between both races with the Humans finding out that even the females of this race are all physically strong enough to give Human men a run for their money and the alien men being proportionately stronger than their females (because they are physiologically similar to Humans and can almost pass for them with only subtle external differences in features and a few relatively minor differences in anatomy and sensory differences... they are meant to be a related species and neither race knew other existed).

    That would make sense why their armour looks like giant slabs of metal - they would require that armour to offset the negatives of operating in low gravity environments. We make armour light sure to our frame only really supporting 100lbs for extended periods (able even that's awful), whereas they would require that weight to function long term without bone or muscle degradation (as it does is in low gravity), which means covering themselves in about half a ton of armour plate would only feel like their "normal" weight to operate under. Which is insane, as the armour could be twice of that or more.

    Elites: Energy Sword
    Brutes: Gravity hammer
    The way they past down their weapons is weird well for the elites anyway, them and there "swordsman genes" can they pls explain that lore better. For the brutes its just if any of the younger can beat the old chieftain in combat the hammer is yours.

      Elite Swordsmen caste is a combination of nobility, like dukes and counts - as well as purebred animal breeding.
      Long ago in their history, Sanghelios culture decided to prioritize skill-at-arms in their leaders, even beyond practicality, and across generations.
      Seems they inherently follow and prioritize skill and finesse, so a class bred for combat is also a class bred for ruling.

    If I may be so bold as to suggest a second reason for the height: I was curious about if it was necessary to provide enough places to anchor the muscles to the bone so they don't rip off trying to exert their full strength in such high gravity?

    • @RoanokeGaming
      @RoanokeGaming  Před 6 lety +5

      it could be, but at what point does the amount of muscle you have become to heavy for other muscle to move it? surely there must be a physical limit for a bipedal animal

    • @alexandermackie7621
      @alexandermackie7621 Před 6 lety +1

      Probably around the same point that the square cube law comes into play, but I might be wrong, I'm a law student, my single year of college biology doesn't really qualify me to be an expert or anything. Maybe we need to find what the equivalent square cube law is for muscle?
      Also, wouldn't it depend on the manner in which muscle is constructed? (if for instance there is an issue of density or of energy efficiency versus terrestrial examples)

    • @alexandermackie7621
      @alexandermackie7621 Před 6 lety +1

      Another thought that occurs, is that the bones themselves must be somehow naturally reinforced to survive such gravity, both the chemical composition and the actual chemical structure must be different in some way to both survive the gravity, and the strength those muscles can put out, but the biochemistry for these differences is beyond me.

    • @RoanokeGaming

      A Spartan would brutalize in the titanfall universe. A pilot would fair a little better than your average ODST in the Halo Universe

    • @DarkCookie586
      @DarkCookie586 Před 6 lety

      Looking at the Halo universe you can already see something similar similar to the titans in the halo wars games with the cyclopse and in Halo 4/5 with the Mantis. So I would guess that both the Humans and Covenant have already experience in fighting bipedal mechs. The pilot on his own (with his jumppack of course) would stil be a thread to the more basic units like marines, grunts or jackals, but I think against Elites or Spartans he would also have a hard time, because of the technological advancement of the covenant and the augmentations and armor of the Spartan.
      A Spartan in the Titanfall universe on the other hand would probably do fine as long as he isn't on an open field against multiple titans. His Speed and reflexes are superior to that of a Pilot as far as I know and his armor can handle a few hits too. The only problem I see for a Spartan is when he has to fight multiple titans without much cover, because he can only really outclass them when he is near them and take advantage of the relative lack of speed of the titans compared to him, and the combined fire power titans have.
      I would stil love to see them both fight tho :D

    An interesting thing about gravity and spaceflight is that a higher gravity results in an exponentially higher fuel requirement. According to NASA, if Earth had been 50% larger it would have been physically impossible for us to build a rocket capable of achieving escape velocity. As in not only would people never get to go to space, but there'd be no satellites or space-telescopes either.
    On a related note, it's theorized that the larger super-Earths may be more likely to produce life than planets our size. So, it's actually possible that most aliens never leave their planet.

    Hiya, I have recently found you on CZcams and I love all your videos and get hooked in them within minutes. I love your gears of war videos especially. Are you able to do more of those? For example on the queen or the lambent war against the locust please. I would love to see that

    Really like your videos. Interesting and entertaining learning about lore and the science behind it at the same time. Your videos got me quite interested in Halo. PC gamer so other than the recent halo online, never played or learned about it.
    Have you ever looked into Warframe? Though it doesn't have an insane amount of lore, what is there would be interesting to look deeper into. Just a thought, think you could make some good videos from it.

      Roanoke Gaming I have a question did the brutes make the gravity hammer because I don't know if I missed that part in the video

    • @RoanokeGaming
      @RoanokeGaming  Před 6 lety

      I don't think the brutes did, I will have to research but I am fairly certain the covenant made it for them

    • @jakobottsman7470
      @jakobottsman7470 Před 6 lety

      Roanoke Gaming it would make since that the covenant did but then again who would have made atriox weapon since he's not part of the covenant and why is it like the main bad guy in the second halo. Like how would they be able to make that tractor beam thing to grab people

    I can’t help but feel like most people portal the Brutes as well... Brutes. Savages who are too aggressive and not smart enough to have been able to get to where they were out without help. This is a reminder that the Brutes were also cunning and strong as a species, and that they could build advanced, sophisticated technologies and battle strategies without outside influences. Thank you for reminding us that the Jirlahane are just as powerful/deadly as the Sangheili.
