    With MCC and Reach releasing on PC in chronological order, many fans are going to get to play the series for the first time in true chronological order, which is going to cause some consistency issues - one of the biggest ones being how the Brutes and Drones disappear after Halo: Reach, only to reappear after Halo CE in Halo 2. So, today I want to answer the question of why the Brutes and Drones disappear after Halo: Reach!

    For the drones, I came up with a little bit of head-canon:
    While it had no Brutes, the fleet of Particular Justice did have Drones when it arrived on Reach, however, Drone numbers fell drastically during the fall of Reach, with mass casualties in New Alexandria and Azod. Meaning Thel 'Vadamee didn't have sufficient numbers to deploy Drones in masses when reaching Halo(no time to resupply due to chasing the Autumn). So he only deployed Drones in mass assaults and selective defensive positions, some of them sporadic due to the meddling of his fleet's minor prophet, which is why they are seen in Fireteam Raven, but not CE.

    In my head cannon, brutes and some drones are deployed AFTER the Covenant takes over battlefields. Elites and other major teams of the Covenant attack first, defeating the majority of the human resistance, and once humans are weakened, Brutes and drones are deployed to pick off stragglers. This would explain why they show up in New Alexandria on Reach once it’s fallen and in ODST after all the elites and other Covenant leave New Mombasa.

    I've had the idea of the brutes as some times being deployed as the covenant's anti civilian troops who don't mind getting their hands dirty. Elites probably found targeting civilian populaces and slaughtering them to be dishonourable so they left it to the brutes since they really don't care. And besides, while a 7ft sleek alien cutting down people with ease with clean energy weapons sure is scary, a giant hairy gorilla ripping people to shreds and shooting them with crude hammers and needle guns and eating them all while doing a loud roar is way more scary. In warfare civilian populaces are targeted to invoke terror into the defending populace and demoralise them so brutes seem better for the job

      Pretty much dead on, you'd deploy Brutes to some areas and deploy Elites to another. Keep them separate to avoid incidents. Brutes fight each other quite often as shown in some cutscenes, so it only seems logical that they'd fight the Elites given the chance. The tactic with Brutes is also to send them against a general area and let them fight, Elites are a more precise strike and would be more effective against UNSC positions.

Also the drones are like jackals and have a agreement to work together but the drones conditions is that they fight where they want and get to colonize and prioritize making nests off the jump. Halo ODST and some of the novels help to back this up as well by describing how they (the drones) function and fight during invasions.

    • @michaelthayer5351
      @michaelthayer5351 Před 4 měsíci +1

      If I remember the lore right what Noble 6 delivers to the Pillar of Autumn is a fragment of Cortana that Halsey had condensed all the Forerunner data and whatnot she and her team had found on Reach to then be merged with the baseline Cortana that was based on Halsey's own neural pathways that was on the Pillar of Autumn. This interpretation allows both the game events and earlier Fall of Reach books to both sorta work together as being canon. This also explains why Cortana is preternaturally good at interfacing with Forerunner and Covenant networks(which are based on Forerunner constructs) and why Cortana's "Blind Jump" had them end up at the first Halo because the location data had been found on Reach and Noble Team delivering the Package is what allows the Master Chief's actions in the Halo Trilogy.
      Incidentally this 'Forerunner Upgrade Package" also probably should have made Cortana immune to rampancy as Forerunner AIs are extremely stable at least in terms of longevity. But 343i wanted to make the most beloved positive AI character pull a Skynet rather than have Cortana and Chief just explore the galaxy, fight Covenant extremists/stragglers and uncover more mysteries of the Forerunners.

      When a Halo is activated the weapon begins siphoning "vacuum energy" from the surrounding space to charge Halo's main firing mechanism. This is why the Delta Halo and Alpha Halo-B both took time to "charge," as Cortana puts it in Halo 3, before firing.

    well, you could use a made up resource like, for example, that no one had the right to land in the halos, since those are sacred for the covenant, but the elites were the holly protectors of the profets, so if the rings were profaned by (in this case) humans, it makes sanse that the guards of the holy profets and their supports would have the right to land on the ring in order to protect them
    but halo ce ended with halo destroyed, and the profets mad for the elites incompetence, so it also makes sense that in halo 2 both elites and brutes (and drones) must have fought humans and the parasite
    in reach it does seem logical to see brutes, cause they are not in a sacred ring, but enemy's planet, so every attack force fights

  • @Seriona1

    There is actually is an easy way to explain this for lore. Remember that the UNSC is heavily modeled after the US military. Pillar of Autumn is part of the UNSC Navy which typically means that the Marines are technically part of the navy, this would explain that due to budget that the Marine Corp is forced to rage a war on a budget and thus share budget with the Navy forcing them to use outdated equipment. Remember that in Reach, you're fighting with Army, you don't actually see the Marines until the end. This explains why the equipment is different between the two games. As for the Covenant, Fleet of Particular Justice is the 3rd largest fleet in the Covenant Navy, because the Covenant had knowledge of where the Autumn was going to, Vadamee ordered the ships closes to his flagship to jump with him to follow the Autumn, he had brute ships in his fleet. Brutes and Elites do not work together on the same ship with the exception of Prophet controlled ships. This explains why Brutes are not in HCE, however in lore, Drones are in the battle, they are used for maintaining the Fleet (you just don't see them in game), the only other part that has yet to be explained for lore is the logic of the Covenant having the lack of equipment from Reach.

    FYI, I have talked to friends in the past who also read the first version of the 'Fall of Reach' novel. Their copies were a little newer than mine, but still the OG version (aka pre-Retcon). With that said, there appears to be some discrepancies in the two different printings. My older copy has seem use different words, different sentence structure or different sentence saying the same thing. But most striking different numbers, for like the Reach's orbital MAC Cannons, the weight of their projectiles and their speed. Example being in my copy its said that the MAC platforms fire 1 tone aluminum alloy slugs at 3% the speed of light. While their copy says something completely different, with much higher numbers for the projectiles weigh and its speed. So even at the time there was some 'variation' in the lore.
