  • Halo 2 introduced us to the Brutes for the first time, and with them came Tartarus - the Chieftain of the Brutes. In Halo 2 he was notably sadistic and cunning, but in the expanded universe he's a billion times worse. So, today, we're going to dive deep into the brutal, disturbing history of Tartarus - Chieftain of the Brutes!

      @@novavortex7763 I dont think brutes are really all that stupid tbh. I think their ability to access their potential was harmed by the covenant being their y’know patrons and the fact that they are so aggressive and warlike both naturally and culturally. Legitimately if they had structure conducive to them and actual education they likely would be a force to be reckoned with. Sort of like the banished, but to be fair the banished are highly atypical and Atriox is a super genius by brute standards. At the same time though, the banished are evidence that when left to their own devices with good structure, they invent a lot of stuff. The brutes are remarkably good at ripping shit apart to figure out how it works and making a jury rigged or “brute” force copy of said things. Even Tartarus as dumb as he might be was an effective leader for the brutes to a certain degree and he clearly was able to understand not just that his uncle was fucking up and responsible for their issues, but why he was responsible. If they were closer to ape intelligence, they would only understand that they’re in a bad situation and look for someone to blame and try to kill them in the most brutal way. Tartarus didn’t kill his uncle just cause he was angry his buddy died and the ship went down, he was pissed cause his uncle was obviously incompetent due to his zealousness. That coming from Tartarus whos super fucking zealous. I think thats good evidence of them possessing semi-decent intelligence. Especially considering veteran brutes would and will actually use good tactics in fights if at times a bit primitive. If you gave medieval humans advanced technology and the act the way they do, because of how they were raised, the culture of the time/place, and the shock of all this new shit, they would act very similarly to brutes. Humans are far more viscous and brutal that most people would like to think.

      @gman57op anti-mason you haven't seen a horse trying to climb a steep hill then, to climb straight up your legs have to push straight up off the ground to create enough force to lift, with horse like legs elites can't do that because if they push off the ground the force will go behind them not upwards, though elites definitively can climb a ladder but it would be entirely with upper body strength and Elites are not primate based creatures like Brutes and humans so they're not built with heavy arm strength hence why it would tire him out gruesomely especially trying to lift himself in heavy metal armor

    Tartar sauce (French: sauce tartare; also spelled Tartare sauce in the UK, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, and other parts of the Commonwealth) is a condiment primarily composed of mayonnaise and finely chopped capers. Tartar sauce can also be enhanced with the addition of gherkins, other varieties of pickles, and lemon juice as well as herbs such as dill and parsley.
    It is most often used as a condiment with seafood dishes such as clam strips, fried oysters, fish and chips, fish sandwiches, and fish fingers, among many other dishes.

After that, my guess is nothing would change with the Hierarc's decisions.

    • @jlk461
      @jlk461 Před 3 lety +29

       @Alexander Robins Or It could have easily just gone like this.
      Your proposal is unacceptable, this planet is our home and we cannot, we will not give it up. However you say that you seek to excavate and recover lost alien (forerunner was it?) artifacts of significance to your religion? If that is all then under the following conditions, we would be happy to let you do so, and even be willing to lend assistance where we can. And this would not just here on Harvest, but on any UNSC controlled planet where such artifacts may yet be found. The conditions being
      Condition 1: You, that is to say this group calling itself the Covenant, make a non aggression pact with us.
      Condition 2: You, the Covenant, enter into trade negotiations with us.
      Condition 3: You share and/or exchange technology with us. Including all new technological knowledge gained from any artifacts recovered on a human owned world.
      Are these conditions acceptable?
      Tartarus thinks
      Condition 1: A smart move for a technologically and physically inferior race. It is no skin off of my back if they don't want to fight us and/or want us attacking them.
      Condition 2: I don't see why not, at the very least we can buy raw materials and other resources from them, and in their ignorance we can most likely get bargain prices. (aka for beads)
      Condition 3: Again I don't see why not give them a technological boost and educate them about the forerunners maybe even get some human converts that wish to join the covenant. And why not share with them knowledge of the glorious wonders of the forerunner's legacy, after all we get the artifacts they just want to know what we learn from them.
      These conditions seem acceptable I will relay your counter proposal to the Prophets and upon their approval we shall make it so.

      Tartarus likely would've started his own faction exclusively with brutes and set out to get revenge by stopping and killing truth, leaving the prophet of truth practically fucked. So while the brutes are now either choosing a side (Tartarus or truth) the covenant would have to fight not only the unsc, but also Tartarus' newly formed army. With all this extra suppression against the covenant, truth would've likely failed miserably at attempting to open the portal to the ark and an even more drastic downfall to the covenant faction would occur. After the covenants defeat Tartarus would probably try to destroy earth or retreat after the elites since these are his enemies and without a goal, I don't see why he wouldn't want to attack and dominant one if not both of these factions. As a Jewish person, the name "Maccabeus" never fails to make me do a double-take because that's the surname of a famed Jewish revolt leader who led a rebellion against the Seleucid Empire in roughly 160~ BC. He died in a battle where he was so hopelessly outnumbered that most of his troops fled and begged him to do the same, but Judas Maccabeus insisted on standing his ground with those most loyal to him, and he died fighting it out like a warrior. After his sacrifice, he became a martyr that inspired other Jewish people to revolt against the Seleucids, and they finally won their right to freely practice their religion.

    So the leading factor of the human covenant war wasn't because the Elites or Brutes decided to attack humanity causing a full on war. It's because a grunt got nervous.

    In Greek mythology, Tartarus is the deepest, darkest part of the Underworld where the worst monsters were kept and even the gods themselves feared to go.

    I hope Halo Infinite will allow us to have a boss fight against Artriox, like we did against Tartarus for halo 2.

    Can't help thinking that the story of Harvest would make a great stand alone game. Somewhere between Reach and Halo 3 ODST in feel. Maybe playing as a marine in Johnson's squad.

      Technically the Halo Universe is the future of ours, and since we do not have "proof of alien contact", neither would they. But we know the truth.....

    • @allykayalltheway6631
      @allykayalltheway6631 Před 3 lety

      Well, technically they did. Back in ancient days humanity was at war with the forerunners(aliens) but most of them(and everything else) was wiped out by the Halo rings and got reset. So, yes they had prior contact with aliens, they just don't teach it.
