  • Slayer Hell on Earth Tour Seattle. WaMu/Qwest Cebter. The last show of the tour where so many cool things happened. This was the icing on the cake for me. The night before in Portland Dave held out the double bass part for a little while then did some crazy hand solo on top of it..so Dukes and I were teasing him, challenging him to hold it for like 4 minutes or something ridiculous!!! Dave did this...holding his hand up looking at his watch...great stuff!!! At the end he asks Dukes.."Was that OK?"...Just ...wow!! An awesome ending to an awesome tour!!!

Triggers doesn’t mean talentless; using triggers as a mic is different than using triggers so you can edit tracks.
Dave just doesn’t play high enough tempos for it to become more practical to use triggers over mics. Once you get in the 240+bpm range, you start losing the ability to discern the different notes on bass heads. There’s a few drummers that play in that range without triggers and you can see what I mean when you watch them play...triggers are just a more practical approach to very high tempos. Derek Roddy is one drummer who doesn’t use triggers and plays 250+bpm.

To all young and up and coming double bass metal drummers out there,
Listen and look closely, no nasty robotic sounding triggers, just a man who set his kit up exactly the way he wants and what's most comfortable for him.
    What a talent.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it a million times..... If we put in the energy this dude does into anything we want to achieve in life it would be as good as done... Think about that for a second. Want to learn the drums, watch this guy, want to become a professional snowboarder, watch this guy... want to become a beast in your industry, watch this guy, want to accomplish damn near anything in life, watch this guy. There is much more going on here then just drumming people... want shit to happen in your life, watch this guy before you walk out the door each morning.. and it’ll happen. Period.

I wish I could leave a like each time I watch this, there will never be another drummer like Dave Lombardo, he changed the way metal drumming was played and recorded , he was responsible for the other drummer's in the thrash metal scene at that time, stepping their own game up, he made everyone want to progress and get faster and harder double bass playing,a lot of people have no idea how vital to the whole double bass playing in the death metal bands of the 80s ( deicides Steve ashiem has named Dave as one of his main influences).

It's a shame he was kicked out simply for wanting the band to get paid better than they were. Lars Ulrich probably got paid better than Dave and I like Metallica as well but in my opinion Dave is the superior drummer. I wonder why Slayer didn't just give Dave a raise so he'd quit complaining about the band's finances. I can't call them greedy for not wanting to make more money but I can call them rash for getting rid of Dave.

To say that Slayer underestimated the value of Lombardo's drumming is an understatement. What the rest of the band does is great, but it's nothing that hasn't been done before. What Lombardo's doing however is phenomenal and pioneering. Nobody ever played drums like that before he did. He is the originator of that style and the perfectionist of that style.

Every time I’m around a drum kit, I play this video and attempt to mimic the man w/ thunder in his veins! I’m convinced that Dave Lombardo is Dimebag Darrell in a drummer’s alternate universe. How Dimebag was on the axe, Dave is the exact same on drums with ferocity and pinpoint precision style of play! Goes without saying that 2 of my 4 all-time greatest line-up spots go to Dimebag and Lombardo. I love Vinnie Paul-God rest the soul-but Lombardo is just so technically proficient as a drummer. If Lombardo played on Vinnie Paul’s kit, eargasm would be an understatement!
