I really enjoyed this performance. You drum with a cool rock style in this. I liked hearing that in this particular song. I liked that you did improvise because you changed things up where even excellent drummers do not; so it made for some pleasant surprises, like that classic rock descending tom-fill - that sounded really good in the song, as did the jungle tom interludes. It was fascinating how many of the crash parts were very similar (at the same exact points). This is a great idea and a way cool experiment. More vids like this and more vids of her, please.

For only 2 takes I think she did an outstanding job! Of course listening to Joey kill it afterwards is going to make you feel like you didn't do as good as you could have. He left some pretty big shoes to fill!

As a metal drummer, if you give me a pop song I'm just going to put metal drums over it. She put down some serious metal grooves which is even more impressive now that I've listened to her normal stuff.
Unbelievable. Her second playthrough, never having heard the full song, absolutely crushes it. Hits all the major fills, tracks all the time changes, even the half time at the bridge, and adds in some honestly incredible spice herself. Wild. Truly humbling.
The fact that she perfectly understood the accents of the original song without listening to them is a testament both of the very catchy and poppy construction of the original song (which is also to be praised on Slipknot side) AND this nice lady's drumming skills. Great job, Domino!

This was far from the original, she doesn't have half the drums needed and that's not her fault but doesn't mean it is closer to the original. This was very different than the normal drum part, she was off beat on multiple occasions.

She absolutely killed it, and from the comments I see here, a lot of people agree. Can't speak for her, but it can be hard to be confident in spaces where you're not getting a lot of feedback, or a space that's male dominated. If anything, I hope this shows people that there are badass women in music out there.
Yeah, I literally only had two places where I went "Not quite my tempo", once during the bridge and once during the outro (I think). The bridge is just hard to improv and she staggered a TINY bit later on, but she was amazing. Going from pop to Slipknot is a tough challenge.

Yep, her drum kit is structured under simpler approach, but nevertheless she managed to do a lot with it. Massive drum kits are amazing but without a good drummer nothig extraordinary happens. on the contrary, a good drummer does not deppend on the drum kit to deliver a good performance.
At the very beginning, like as soon as she first hears the song, she did say "you're gonna need to install double right?" So she pretty much knew right away.

The final take is great. I like how her kit is pretty restrained- one rack tom, one bass drum. I think the original is recorded on a 10-piece kit? She squeeze so much out of the roll at 7:50 , just by using accents and ghosts.
Yeah, that hint of break beat plus her speed and energy changed everything! In parts I was reminded of Pitchshifter with D.J. Walters as their drummer.

I second this. Never heard the song before and if what was stated is true, would be absolutely exciting to be on that same musical journey as each musician that steps up to the plate.

I think my favorite part of this was her switching from a very very tight and straight play style you'd find in more pop, to a full arms loose heavy hitting groovy play style to fit better. She felt the emotion the song was supposed to provide and changed her playing based off it. Crushed it!

That's the whole point of the series - to give drummers stuff they are not familiar with and give their own take on the songs, not to imitate the drum parts 1:1. I wish Joey was alive and hear this

Joey was a world class, amazing drummer. She's sitting there with pretty much a basic kit and managed to do a fantastic job. You could tell she could really feel it, even if her spin on it was different. This was awesome.

I've watched a bunch of these today and honestly was a little worried after watching the first attempt. But wow she rocked this! I appreciated the process shown in this video more than any of the others. It's so awesome to see the humility at the beginning then absolutely crush it. I feel like she took the assignment seriously and it shows.
This one somehow almost brought me to tears, maybe because the song is one I know well. Maybe because seeing this activly is genuinely so beautiful to watch. Seeing someone without a "metal" background make it work and sound so sic is just amazing.

I have just now discovered Slipknot as a 53-year-old. I missed the whole thrash metal area and it makes me sad. I am so excited to discover this music is that I never would have considered. And I think there's so much more to it than anything else I have heard in my lifetime. It's completely taken me by hold and has got me by the soul

I think this series shows the best parts of being 'fluent in the language of music'. They never heard the song before, it is not their preferred genre - but then they played the breakdown section in a way I prefer over the actual recording, with that marching snare build-up. It is brilliant!

The final take is great. I like how her kit is pretty restrained- one rack tom, one bass drum. I think the original is recorded on a 10-piece kit? She squeeze so much out of the roll at 7:50 , just by using accents and ghosts.

I think my favorite part of this was her switching from a very very tight and straight play style you'd find in more pop, to a full arms loose heavy hitting groovy play style to fit better. She felt the emotion the song was supposed to provide and changed her playing based off it. Crushed it!

Joey is not an easy drummer to imitate. The assignment was almost unfairly difficult, but she kinda killed it.
That's the whole point of the series - to give drummers stuff they are not familiar with and give their own take on the songs, not to imitate the drum parts 1:1. I wish Joey was alive and hear this

This is just incredible. There are drummers who play within the genre who wouldn't have done as well as she did here. Incredible tom work, unbelievable single pedal game and the fill that connected the bridge to the chorus actually had me cheering.

Joey was a world class, amazing drummer. She's sitting there with pretty much a basic kit and managed to do a fantastic job. You could tell she could really feel it, even if her spin on it was different. This was awesome.
You could see the exact moment she started to feel it and just laid into it with confidence.

She did a bloody awesome job!!! She has a clean sound but when she got right into it, she let loose and found that groove- loved watching her enjoy it as well. Bloody legend 💚
She's a great drummer and her parts were great. I really like the natural approach she takes to drums, she is serving the song the music, and not drum students
The fact that she got those lone kicks right during the chorus is a huge testament to both her ability and the overall quality of the song. It just DEMANDS those kicks and she gave them
And her physical fitness tbh... Drums are a workout. Especially with how she's rocking out.

I've watched a bunch of these today and honestly was a little worried after watching the first attempt. But wow she rocked this! I appreciated the process shown in this video more than any of the others. It's so awesome to see the humility at the beginning then absolutely crush it. I feel like she took the assignment seriously and it shows.
This one somehow almost brought me to tears, maybe because the song is one I know well. Maybe because seeing this activly is genuinely so beautiful to watch. Seeing someone without a "metal" background make it work and sound so sic is just amazing.
I haven't listened to Slipknot in forever. I had no idea who Domino was. I do not drum. I have no clue how this made it into my CZcams feed. But this video made me incredibly happy to watch while sitting here working from home. Good work Drumeo! Great work Domino!
i HIGHLY recommend the Larnell Lewis is playing Metallica one to ya. He did indeed listen to the drums but attempts it to play in one take, after one time listening. - its awesome.

I have just now discovered Slipknot as a 53-year-old. I missed the whole thrash metal area and it makes me sad. I am so excited to discover this music is that I never would have considered. And I think there's so much more to it than anything else I have heard in my lifetime. It's completely taken me by hold and has got me by the soul

For never having heard it before and being entirely different from what she normally plays, she did an excellent job. It's fantastic seeing people hear metal, listen with an open mind and allo themselves to enjoy the raw energy of it.
I think this series shows the best parts of being 'fluent in the language of music'. They never heard the song before, it is not their preferred genre - but then they played the breakdown section in a way I prefer over the actual recording, with that marching snare build-up. It is brilliant!
Not sure if I can believe that the first go was stumbly and the second go was so damn good, but... overall she did a great job.
