Steel galvanized pipes that you used are not suitable long term for water usage. They will eventually rust from the inside out, which is why if you check any of the pipes in your home they are usually either copper or now a days PEX pipe. I would suggest changing that steel galvanized pipe out for something more suitable to be in the path of bathroom or kitchen water supply. Safety first!

Your commentary suggests your washer combo is against the landlord rules so I'd recommend purchasing a washing machine drain tray. Sure an element of landlord's ban was concern abt a leak ruining your apartment and those round or below you. Trays are waterproof and esp great for capturing slow leaks so often undetected. Daming and caulking a space are subject to failure for several reasons, such as adherence failure, cracking due to normal building settling or esp movement caused by the washer shaking.
Be sure of your plumbing skills. Esp. joints, traps, venting, slopes and proper allowances for psi.
Any water damage resulting from this alteration means paying to restore. As well as damage to other units, because, afterall, water loves to spread and to drip. :-)
Demo and replacing walls (drywall, 2x4s, baseboard, texturing), paint, floors (subfloor, carpet, padding, vinyl), plumbing, cabinets, electrical wiring, sound insulation ... can become rather expensive.
Rental? Landlords inspect units before returning deposits. Depending on where you live, sometimes city/county conducts code compliance inspections - you would receive written advance notice. Or, based on complaints, a suspicious landlord could do the same. In some places, landlords keep their eyes on utility bills bc they're responsible to pay that bill if renters don't. Will your water bill suddenly jump? When we had guests for a week, our utility company notified us of an increase in water usage- done as a service to make customers aware of potential, unknown plumbing problems.
Owner owned unit? Damages may be covered by insurance provided a permit was pulled for the work. Ck w your agent abt coverage to other units.
    Good luck!
