When Alexandre Villaplane was made captain of France in 1930, he said it was the happiest day of his life. He was a national hero, the most popular player in the country, and led France into the first ever World Cup in Uruguay in 1930. Fourteen years later he was executed, shot by a firing squad, having been condemned as a traitor and a war criminal.

There were great footballers who served well in WW2, like Tom Finney, Fritz Walther, and Bert Trautmann. If Tifo are doing more excellent videos like these, then those players should get some focus. They have fascinating stories.

i am so happy that today we have football players playing because they love the game and the teams that they loved as a child.Sure we still have some palyers who do it for the money ,but they are not given highlights by the media and insted we see players like totti and messi being loved by millions. Also love the video that combines football and history that even i did't know about.
