Watford FC were the rust bucket club going nowhere, Elton John was the global icon sitting atop of the world.
But they needed each other. This is the story of when Elton John owned a football club.

When I woke up today I did not expect to see an animation of a hornet flying into a room with a man crying & lined out cocaine on the bedside drawers
I didn't expect such a beautiful piece of work from Tifo when I woke up tbf.
That's weird that's exactly what I expected when I woke up this morning

And he hosted another concert at Vicarage Road in 2010, when the club had no money. The money raised was used to buy a young striker from Walsall, Troy Deeney.

Unbelievable Jeff
Elton John playing "Watford Save" in career mode. Epic.
In Football Manager
How can I get normallity back in my life? 🤔 Ohh I know ill play real life football manager with Watford.
Elton John and Graham Taylor are immortal at Watford. Genuine Legends.
Elton John playing Football Manager 20 years before it came out.
I've always had respect for Sir Elton John's passion for the club and the miracles he pulled for Watford, but I had no idea that Watford made as a huge impact on his life.
Watford be like *”I’m still standing! Yeah, Yeah, Yeah!”*
Great story. Watford managers seem to last as long as a “Candle in The Wind” these days.
Underrated comment
this is a beautiful story
Agreed, he still occasionally comes to games when he can. 🙂
This makes me so proud to be a Watford supporter. Elton John's passion and contribution to the club have had such a positive impact on the town as a whole, and to think he only ever did it out of love for his home town rather than the notoriety it would get him makes it all the more awesome.
As a Watford fan, I can't love Elton John and Graham Taylor (God) more. Elton lived the dream we all had as a kid-to be an instrumental part of the rise of the club you love. This was a great video to honour those two.
The only thing that needs correcting is that the players don't walk out to "I'm Still Standing" any more. We had a poor run of results when it was changed from Z-Cars to I'm Still Standing so it was changed back
💛
Damn this was a very emotional story. I'm at a loss for words...
Football is beautiful. Be happy y'all!
Had no clue about Elton and this club. So heartwarming
Lovely story of a grand club , it's decent chairman and an underappreciated manager .
History won't be kind to Taylor and that's a shame. The whole England thing will taint an otherwise legendary C.V and that's just wrong .
History will be kind to him,
Graham.Taylor mostly punched above his weight with his teams
He fought against racism in football before it was trendy
@@barackobama2195 I'm not familiar with that , what did he do?
@@unoriginal5909 other stuff too obviously, he was just a generally decent man. I recall the FA instructing him not to select 'too many black players' which he was obviously quite pissed off to hear about
@@barackobama2195 he also managed Luther Blissett and John Barnes, probably Englands 2 best black players of the 20th century
When you thought Elton John couldn't be more amazing. -He also owned Watford, just to be normal.
💛
Hello. Fellow normal people.
Graham Taylor was an incredible manager. Elton's comments about football bringing him happiness shows the power of football in someone's life.
Really great story. Always good to see football have a good impact on people.
It’s a fantastic story isn’t it!
As a lifelong Watford fan who was born in the early 90s, I didn't experience the 'glory days' first hand, but the whole story of Elton and Graham is like a fairy tale I learnt from a young age. Despite this, I still learnt some things in this video - mainly around Bertie Mee who I wasn't aware of. Great video as always Tifo!
Watford was the first club to sign my character in FIFA '10 career mode. I knew nothing about them, but I was amused the team with (what I thought was) a moose-crest signed the Canadian kid.
I ended up going for a BFA in music, gained a lot of respect & admiration for Elton, but I never knew this part of his story. Makes me want to dust-off that old save file and appreciate it again in a new light :)
Watford were once Born To Lose, their hopes of success blown like a Candle In The Wind until Elton John used his Healing Hands to not Let The Sun Go Down on his boyhood favourites. It was no Sacrifice for the star, who was reviving his father's favourite team, but also maintaining a connection to some form of a normal life.
In the years that followed under Elton, Watford wouldn't Go Breaking fans' Hearts, Saturday Afternoons were Alright For Football, although his time wasn't without controversy: One time during his tenure the question of changing the clubs famous yellow shirts to blue came up, however in the end they didn't go ahead with the idea. I Guess That's Why They're Not Called The Blues.
When all's said and done, Elton did a great job. Thanks to him they're Still Standin', and thanks to them so is he.
👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼
@@retro1937 That's a little something I like to call 'machine-pun fire'
👏
As a child of the 80s, Elton John being in charge of Watford is perfectly normal to me.
He's just seems like a really nice bloke, you never hear a bad word about Elton
Oh you do hear many a bad word about him but he's still awesome and everyone has a bad side and it's not as if he's ever killed anyone
Wait... seriously? Just google "Elton John feuds" he's infamously had loads
Got newfound respect for both Elton and Watford after this
Tifo never fail to deliver something interesting and insightful 🐐🐐🐐
All Watford supporters lived the dream at the time thank you Elton and what can you say about GT to see he was MR WATFORD and we trusted him and of course we still miss him and all ways will
I asked my friend when will Liverpool win a home game he told me
" And I think it's gonna be a long long time"
HAHAHAHA im a liverpool fan but that was good

As an Evertonian I appreciate this joke more than most .
Unfortunately this is just a blip and they will be kicking arse soon enough .
@@NobletheSavage a reminder that their next home game is against villa.
This is beautiful, and you know what? It also highlights the beauty of English football culture! People don't choose clubs based on their success but on being local, the home team.
Elton John and Watford, Noel and Liam Gallagher when Manchester City were still a small club, Sting and Mark Knopfler with Newcastle (and just for the record, I'm a Sunderland fan), Steve Harris and Russel Brand and West Ham United.
Elton John is a beautiful person!
I was curious to see Elton John's name on the stand while watching a Watford game when they were still in the Premier League; I looked it up and was amazed! I thought It'd be a stunt like the Michael Jackson statue at Fulham but it was a nice story! I'm glad Tifo covered it
Best Tifo video I've watched in a very long time! Well done guys! 💪
As a life long Watford fan, this was a treat to watch. Elton and Graham are legends here. You Orrrrns!
All is correct apart from the team walking out to I’m still standing, happened for about 4 games and the fans didn’t like it
True that
👍
What kind of fan wouldn't like it?? Bloody wankers. Beautiful song, true inspirational anthem.
@@Maxim89Il It was a bit timid tbh. They've played Z-cars for so long now and changed it without consultation. There was always gonna be pushback from the fans.
They didn't ask the fans. Z Cars theme tune had been there since the 60s.
Can you cover Hibernian FC and the 'Hands of Hibs' movement by their fans. Sunshine on Leith by The Proclaimers was adopted as the song after Fans revolted against sale of the club to private owners.
Them winning the 2016 Scottish Cup and the scenes after is still one the best moments. It's even better than Liverpool FC fans did after the UCL imo.
Love the spirit of the club, from India!
Awesome story!
I want to see more of those in a near future. Brazilian football has some crazy stories, hope you tell the tale of Bangu and his owner Castor de Andrade, Atletico Mineiro and his Our Lady of the Apparition's curse, the life and times of Tulio Maravilha....
Elton John was once interviewed and asked whether as owner he let the manager make the decisions, or would he come down and pull someone off at half time
He stated he would never interfere with the manager.
This was a fantastic watch, great job! 🐝
This was relaxing and heartwarming. Brought a smile and happiness
Absolute hero. I love this man and what he did for my club. 🙌🏼
Same.
What a legend
That was quite heart warming and wholesome
Great story, great video - thanks Tifo!
That was such a lovely story. Sometimes football can be a source of good and mental therapy.
I knew Elton John loved Watford but I didn’t know how much he did and where that took them until this video, incredible story
Honestly this makes me want to root for Watford a little more. What a story, love to hear it!
I love the title, "It's little bit funny"
I think it's scandalous that no one has 'liked' you pun-tastic comment. I will happily be the first.
@@thegreathadoken6808 pun-tastic comment? "I KNOW IT'S NOT MUCH BUT THE BEST I CAN DO"

Great video! If I remember correctly, Robbie Williams bought Port Vale about a decade ago. Would be interesting to watch a video about that!
Love these, asked around for who was the SB Nation of football, and got recommended to you. So glad that I did, this is all freaking perfect and amazing.
I am obviously not a Watford fan, but I have always been a huge Elton John fan. He is a big reason why I started watching football and how I found out about Watford FC. I just found Arsenal and fell in love with them so I can't ever go back.
He's not one of those who can easily hide.
Football saved his life, it's beautiful.
Such a cool story. Love this channel.
Brilliant video. Only inaccuracy is that our walk out song is still Z cars. It was changed to I'm still standing for a short period of time in the 18/19 season, however, it reverted back to Z cars as fans like this tradition.
Beautiful story. Thank you
As a Luton town fan I feel I should have a hatred for this man but I can’t. God damn
As a Watford fan, what a video😍
Story's like this are amazing
Goosebumps
That is a beautiful story.
As usual these You Tube videos are informative and excellently researched.
One thing the video could not be expected to cover - the ethos unlike most modern day PL clubs - is about a community club. MU MC Chelsea Spurs are about making trading profits.
Lovely video Tifo! Also, the Sir Elton John Stand has the lyrics to "Your song" at the back.
Beautiful video
Anyone else surprised by the “wAAatford” voice crack at 0:42
Goosebumps...
God I love this sport
Fantastic content!!!
Wow that's freaky!! Just watched Rocketman last week. Didn't think tifo would do an Elton John centric episode
elton john's taylor made army. Elton and Graham Taylor the perfect team for Watford
We are from Sir Elton John's Taylor made army
Love my club 🐝
I am always happy when i get a new notification from Tifo.
What’s a beautiful piece!
Great video! Celtic currently looking for a new director of football and manager going forward would be great club to look into over the next few seasons as the club look to get back into a champions league group stage club consistently would be a good rise and fall club to do.
Beautiful story 🌹
Most touching tifo video till date
HOW do you make these videos? It's absolutely incredible work!
beautiful story
Honestly a very touching story actually
Fun fact: 3:10 bertie mee is the great grandfather of Burnley defender ben mee
All through the video i was playing "your song" in my head 😀
Great to know that thanks
Anyone old enough to remember Murphy's Mob? Wasn't that show based on Watford at the time?
Filmed at Vicarage Lane and the team played in Watford colours, pop-star chairman!, even had rivals called the Town!...
Great video
Fantastic story! Didn't now about that.
It literally got me goosebumps! Idk maybe the story or maybe bcoz of narration
Love this story
This should have been in Rocketman. There's only a 2 second scene related to Football in a song transition montage.
Goosebumps man
Made me so emotional. 😌
Wonderful
You guys should do a “whats going wrong at” for liverpool. They are spiralling, its funny but im also interested into a deeper look into why it’s happening
Wow. So informative
This is emotional, it's like your dream in a PES Master League but made true in real life
Moral of the story is to own a football club
My Nan when Diana died @1:08
Great story
That was powerful.
I’m nearly finished with the first season of my Sunderland career mode, why did you have to drop this today now I have to fire up a watford save
This is goooood
That piggy bank is the best part of the video
Since quite a number of leading football clubs will need a front man come next season and not everyone can have Haaland, can you do a video on striker options available and suitable to the various clubs?
I Iove Tifo❤️
