In the FA Cup, everyone has a puncher’s chance. Underdog winners, unheard of players, unheard of teams, giant killings, and triumph in the face of adversity. The FA Cup has it all.
Seb Stafford-Bloor charts some of The FA Cup’s greatest ever moments. Illustrated by Henry Cooke.

FA cup final is so underrated these days. The original biggest game of the season
They're slowly trying to dissect the competition. This year they scrapped replays for obvious reasons but they're all rubbing their hands because now there's no point to go back to that rule.
Semifinals at Wembley are also sad. GOING TO Wembley for a smaller team meant they finally made it and a unique day out.
Cup finals in general use to be the biggest entertainment.
Remember when Gerrard scored an own goal against Chelsea in the league cup final and Mourinho went in front of the Liverpool fans and shushed them 😂😂😂😂😂
A-fucking-men!
Only because it was the only live match on Tv all season.
The FA cup just has a different feel to it. Whether my team wins or loses, it feels really good to watch, it has a magical feeling, it’s a fresh breath of air and a break from the grueling league matches
Wigan beating the likes of Man City 1-0 is one of the greatest underdog story in the cup
Will grigg 🙌🙌
beat Man City three times in the last decade in three different leagues
@@samgle4317 no ben watson last min
Ben Watsons header still brings goosebumps pure magic of the cup
Well not really because Wigan were a premier league side then, and could have beaten city or any other team on an off day in the premier league... you still see it today.
Tifo is really giving us these contents free every other day...i have seen them from 2018 and never have their quality been compromised
the best
Damn, Tifo is getting sponsored by the Cup itself! Massive progress
Coventry beating Spurs in 1987 was quite a moment, with Keith Houchen’s diving header one of the highlights. One of the best FA Cup Final goals in history.
Cup final really should be the last game of the season, not just another game on a Saturday
Agreed
It has been for a few years, they had to play it early this year because of the late start to the season.
Nobody cares about FA Cup unless their team qualifies, people care about UEFA Champions League qualification more than FA Cup.
From there on, it's a good business decision
@@rifaturrahman512 only real football fans care about the Cup. It shouldn't be disrespected. Its not just part of English Football Culture , but part of the nation's culture.
The existence of the league cup diminishes the FA Cup slightly. There should only be one cup competition at least for Premier League teams, I feel like the FA will have some worth/prestige returned to it that way
"The Little Tin Idol" - The FA Cup is everything we love about Football. The Romance, The Jeopardy, The Marquee matches and The Giant-Killing feats as well as some of the most iconic individual performances from some of the most iconic players of all time - This is the Dream, the Magic of the Cup ♥️
The magic of the FA Cup. May it live forever.
Ramsey scoring to end Arsenal's trophy drought was great. A good game as well
Can you imagine a Championship side making and winning the final these days? Whilst not impossible, Sunderland's (my team) moment in 1973 has to be up there because of that.
West Ham won it 1980 and they were in the 2nd division at the time as well
This most likely doesn't count but Wigan won the cup in the same season they were relegated to the championship
One of the first football matches I ever watched as a kid was the Wimbledon vs Liverpool match back in 1988. As an American growing up in the Middle East, my family had no interest in football, but our British neighbors did and I remember watching that match and wanting to be a goalkeeper afterwards. The next year I remember the next years final was a 3-2 thriller between Liverpool and Everton and have always watched the FA Cup final ever since, amongst many other football matches too lol...
Lincoln City's heroics were in the same season we saw the comeback by Barcelona against PSG. Nobody talked about it because nobody knows and nobody cares about Lincoln City. But I personally believe Lincoln City's achievements were far greater, much more difficult than Barcelona's. And this is the beauty of FA Cup.
Wigan winning it then getting relegated in 2013 was something else.
The 88 result was an upset, but you have to remember that Wimbledon weren’t some lower league side. They finished 7th in the first division that season. The season before Coventry beat Spurs, and the gap between those two was bigger than the gap between Wimbledon and Liverpool.
I was at that Bradford game. Still the greatest football moment I have ever seen.
As a Chelsea fan I want to delete that game from my memory 😅
The story of Roy Essendoh who was signed by Wycombe just before their game quarter final game against Leicester. Lawrie Sanchez put an advert out by teletext for a striker who wasn’t cup tied and Roy answered the call. Roy come on as a late sub and then scored the winner to put Wycombe through to the FA Cup Semi Final. It’s a great story and probably won’t ever happen again because teams will just use their academy players.
Great video, but no mention of Wigan's last minute winner against Man City in the 2013 final? Perfect example of the underdogs rising up to the occassion.
Seb's writing for this one was especially brilliant. Great content!
The competition we are kings of ❤️
14 times 😎. Will always hold a special place in our hearts
Arsenal = small club
@@yeshennaidu6803 Yeah that's why we are the 3rd most successful club of England
@@rohanmajumder8063 well the FA cup is where underdogs and smaller clubs do well
@@rohanmajumder8063 spurs >>>>>>
@@yeshennaidu6803 hahaha where's your trophy 🤣🤣
Of late, a Deulofeu inspired comeback against wolves to send Watford to the FA Cup final
"Malony takes?! And its in its ben watson, its ben watson for wigan athletic" what a moment 🔵⚪
" I won an FA cup final against man united with Chelsea at the new wembley. Drogba extra time. We won. And the media said" Shocking game " But with man united. I lost an FA cup final against Chelsea. It was also a shocking game but not from us. Because we were the team with possession. We had the chances. We had more shots. We wanted it more. Shocking game but from Conte and you closed your mouth "
Greatest ever FA cup quote 😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣
The 2021 FA Cup Final was Excellent, I think it was one of the best I've seen since the 80s. Great Goal, Amazing Save, VAR last minute...and brilliant scenes at the final whistle.... Very emotional
Well Done Leicester, I think people will look back on your day with great fondness.
A lovely nod to Peter Jones' line at Hillsborough at the end.
Up the Hereford with the most iconic FA Cup moment in history
I got goosebumps with the last story - super video once again
Giggs' solo goal against Arsenal in the Semis was one of my favourites
Easily my best United memory from childhood
Great goal wasn't it, such a shame what he's done to his reputation though
@Niranjan Rajesh Well you clearly do typing all that out 🤣
That wasn't Ryan Giggs, that was Wolverine {X-MeN}
The final was the only live game on TV most years. My dad looked forward to cup final day weeks in advance as a kid.
the greatest 1 without a doubt is Lingardinho's volley vs crystal palace to seal the W in the final.
Greatest FA Cup moment ever was Lord Jesse Lingard scoring a half volley vs Palace in the final, what a young talent!
My man's a big game player
@@konnichiyawa1360 My Lord's*
Drogba was the king of FA Cup finals. He was absolutely unstoppable in his prime, every rival team envied us bc we had him upfront. One of the greatest strikers ever to play in the prem.
Good video, but a bit annoyed you didn't mention second-tier Sunderland beating top-tier Leeds in the '73 final.
That's obviously one of the most notable FA Cups ever.
In fact, Sunderland fans talk about it more than about the 6 league titles the team has won.
That double save haunts me and I wasn't even alive at the time.
Don’t think I knew that Liverpool ended up winning that 89 FA Cup by beating Everton at Wembley. Obviously not the end of that story, but a lovely note within it
I knew there had been a few Merseyside Derby FA Cup finals, but just learned that one was in the immediate aftermath of Hillsborough
Such amazing stuff these guys put together 😍
2013 FA Cup Final winner Wigan Athletic.... is also a very underdog cup winner
Really have to give it to TIFO the content is always very detailed and interesting. Cant say I have ever come across a video done by them I havent enjoyed and I watch them all.
For those who haven't seen it Ronnie Radford's goal is one of the greatest ever scored. Not just for the brilliant tackle, one-two and 35 yard piledriver on a pitch that looked like it had been mowed with a plough but for the hundreds of kids wearing Snorkel Parkas invading the pitch in what must be the epitome of the term "Scenes".
And now we've got another fairytale in this tournament.
Leicester City 💙
I'll never forget that moment when Shaun Raggett scored the winner for Lincoln against Burnley, I went absolutely mental!
FA cup was so much better back in the day with a full days build up to the final and camera's on the buses going to the ground. I would recommend people to search for "Meanwhile back in Sunderland" on CZcams as a good documentary as to what the FA cup used to mean. Also, I am surprised the 1973 cup final was never mentioned as Sunderland (2nd Div/2nd tier side) were massive underdogs that day against Leeds, who were going for the league and cup double. That game also features one of, if not the best save in FA cup final history and one of the greatest saves of all time
Magic of the cup!!!
Wigan winning against Man City 👏,for me the best FA cup moment in my knowledge
Wigan Vs City
Oldham Vs Liverpool
Nottingham forest Vs Arsenal
Chelsea Vs Bradford
Colchester Vs Spurs
Mk Dons Vs Man United
Some of the fa cup shocks that have happened over the last 12 years.
MK Dons vs Man United was the EFL Cup
So much respect for the Liverpool players attending them funerals, unbelievable
4:30, whilst Stan Mortensen is the only player to have scored an FA Cup final hat trick at Wembley, he’s not the only one to do it, William Townley scored a hattrick for Blackburn against Sheffield Wednesday in 1890 and James Logan did it aswell for Notts County against Bolton in 1894
Fenner’s illustrations, especially the dog, are insaaaannnnneeeeee
Love the fa cup
Gerrards goal against villa was something else.
walk on with hope in your hearts
Wow Tifo has been sponsored by The FA Cup itself.
The FA Cup final is still the game I look forward to most every year. Even this year when I have no stakes in it like this year (I'm a Liverpool fan, my dad is a West Ham fan and most relevant, my brother is a Chelsea fan and my mum is a Leicester fan so football is a pretty mental affair in my family)
I’m glad you put Wimbledon up first. A lot of people forget about that final. Best story in football in my biased opinion
Brilliant Video as always - but no Bert Trautmann playing the Final with a Broken Neck?
Giggs solo goal, no question. Best FA Cup moment ever
Ryan Giggs 's solo goal against Arsenal at Villa Park should be here
Still got its magic after all these years.
2019 Chichester City FA Cup Run
You can't beat an FA Cup Final at a sunny Wembley Stadium ☀ 🏟
This was great, although the music was a little 'breezy summer day' for the emotional subject matter -- thought it could've been much more powerful with a better-fitting soundtrack (a rare editorial misstep from my favourite YT sports channel!)
tifo football now foreshadowing fa cup results
Would personally love another Merseyside Derby final.
Same
POMPEY beating utd and going on to win the FA cup is one of my favourite moments in football! PUP 💙
That was the FA Cup of underdogs. Portsmouth, Cardiff, Barnsley and West Brom in the last four
Liverpool and Chelsea losing to Barnsley and Man Utd beaten by Pompey
Naturally the record attendance at new Wembley too. PuP
Fa cup is so historic my god💙
Whose here after the Leicester win?
United fans are grateful to Chelsea for taking Man City out at the Semis and saving our treble
Yes sirrr. Only English team to win the treble
League cup is still a major domestic cup 🤷♂️
@@bluest.9320 no
@@bluest.9320 Not considered as part of the real "Treble" though
You failed to mention that in Wrexham’s defeat of Arsenal, the previous season Wrexham had finished bottom of the football league and avoided the trap door to the conference by a technicality, whilst Arsenal had finished the previous season at the pinnacle as champions.
I was waiting for that Ronnie Radford moment to come up
Wow, I just realized that I don't remember what this channel was originally called.
umaxit football
Not a mention of Roy Essendoh the semi pro chap from Teletext putting Wycombe through to the semis against Liverpool!?
love the arsenal kit
Waifs & Strays is my new band name
Gerrard's goal v West Ham was pretty crazy.
Still haunted by that hull arsenal final would’ve been the greatest moment in our clubs history
Shame you guys didn't mention the stat that Chelsea won the last FA cup final at Old Wembley, and the first Fa Cup final at New Wembley
It’s sad that it’s not as big of a deal as it was. I’m only 30, and can still remember the days when it would be built up all day, watching the buses pull in, all that jazz. Sad
The Liverpool vs West Ham Final (2006?) is one of the best games of football I've ever watched.
Let's go Chelsea!! Come On You Blues! Pulisic with his 2nd hat trick!! ....To overcome Kelechi's brace
You guys should do a tifo football video about guard of honour in football
The Beautiful FA Cup
a tournament for the england's biggest football prize
League cup’s greatest moments would be a good one
Jeff astle scoring the winning goal for west brom in the 1968 final becoming the only player to score in every round of the cup
Yo7 better check your records because osgood did it the following year
My first game as an Arsenal fan here in Kenya ☺️
DO A RIVER PLATE EVOLUTION FROM RELEGATION IN 2011 TO TOP OF THE FIFA RANKING IN 2019
In Germany, we say: "Der Pokal hat seine eigenen Regeln!" (The cup has it's own rules)
Meaning, that a lot of big clubs failing to much smaller clubs, is a normal thing in the DFB Pokal!
This year:
Jahn Regensburg (2. Bundesliga) kicked out 1. FC Köln (1. Bundesliga)
Greuther Fürth (2. Bundesliga) kicked out TSG Hoffenheim (1. Bundesliga)
VFL Bochum (2. Bundesliga) kicked out Mainz 05 (1. Bundesliga)
SC Paderborn (2. Bundesliga) kicked out Union Berlin (1. Bundesliga)
Rot-Weiss Essen (4th League) kicked out Arminia Bielefed (2. Bundesliga), Fortuna Düsseldorf (2. Bundesliga) and Bayer Leverkusen (1. Bundesliga)
Dynamo Dresden (3. Bundesliga) kicked out Hamburger SV (2. Bundesliga)
and the biggest surprise, Holstein Kiel (2. Bundesliga) kicked out Bayern München (1. Bundesliga)
which is why the DfB pokal is one of the best domestic cups in the world! nowadays its just european, we have to take domestic into consideration again.
Do a video on the FA trophy
The cup is still great. You only think its been "devalued" because that is what Sky have told you to think
If you haven't seen it, give "The English Game" a watch on Netflix. Fantastic stuff and it covers the Old Etonians.
Wycombe's win against Leicester at Filbert Street should be on here
Sterling scored a hattrick in the fa cup final as well in 2019 I believe against Watford
Bert Trautmann played with a broken neck in the final of the FA Cup
Quick mention to the 1973 cup final, worth s read up on.
In 2016 and 2017 liverpool had 2 consecutive 3rd round replay against 2 league 2 sides from Devon
2:33 thought it was Dr Evil
The FA cup is diminished by the media continually banging on about the magic of the cup. Too much hyperbole. Let the fans enjoy it without the enforced emphasis on "fun".
Sunderland 1973 must have just lost out surely, lower league team winning against the mighty leeds
I’m still upset over 2014.
But we won a trophy now woooooo.
How has Wigan not even got a mention? Beat the best side in the country three times in the last decade, including once as a League One side that cost almost nothing to assemble
This video did not originally appear on The Athletic.
I know that it was a long time ago, but the etonians 1800's accomplishments were mentioned, but no mention of the only ever non league side to win the FA cup?
Come on Leicester!!!
