    Thanks Great tips, got the Rhino 36G's model about 2 years ago but have yet to use as no need so far as prefer full hookups. My TT only has 30G's B&G tanks for each so overfill should not be an issue. I made a portable front caster option for it with some lumber and heavy duty caster wheels and plan to use a shortened tow strap to hook it up to the tow hitch of my P/U instead of the steel tow arm attachment option that came with it.

    Thanks for doing this one, Aaron. I've been thinking real seriously about getting one of those tanks, but haven't convinced myself it'd be worth the labor involved with our smaller rig (19-foot). Watching your process convinces me that it won't be that bad, and will help us out in all these state parks we frequent that don't have sewer hook-ups.

    Hi there! On our previous 2 travel trailers, we exclusively stayed at campgrounds with full services. I did have a blue boy type tote tank as we had a clean out access at our house and I could do a final dumping of any accumulated waste during our travels home (the clean out access wasn't close to where we could pull the rig, hence, the tote tank).
    Our Outdoors RV travel trailer arrived to the dealer this week. We will go pick it up after Thanksgiving, due to work trips that I have in the interim. So now our mission statement has changed. We will almost exclusively be boondocking out on public lands now that we have moved from NC to southwestern CO. I will still get a tote tank as I am very positive that we will need to transport waste away from our campsite. As I am struggling with regards to what size portable generator to get (I would love to get 1 or 2 small ones so that I don't have to carry big loads), it is becoming apparent that I may have to devise a system to get a mostly loaded tote tank into the back of the truck for longer ranged, off road transport. I am guessing that I will still need to bring the atv ramps to help get this wheeled poop bomb into the truck.

      Hey guys. We see numerous folks in Quartzsite each year using one of those receiver hitch cargo carriers to haul their full tote tanks to the dump station. You could even rig up a small winch to pull the tank up on the carrier if you were to get the one with the drop down ramp usually used for mobility scooters. Just an idea. :) Hope that helps. Even at my house where our clean out access is only about 1 foot above the ground, the tote is an MFer to lift up and drain into that clean out access.
      I am definitely going to get one of those flowpump things!! I still have the original battery from our rig (I put in a robust solar system) that I could tote around to power it.

    Great video - been shopping for one. Could you use a ramp and put it in the back of the truck? Towing looks risky! Have the wheels held up? Seems some reviews say it's a concern. There is a 4-wheel version now but for almost triple the price.

    • @JonesN2Travel

      Thanks for checking out the video. The wheels have been holding up fine but I only tow it about 5 miles per hour. I have seen people use those cargo trays fro the truck hitch and wheel it up on there for transport. This works really well if you are boondocking and have to drive into town to a dump station. As heavy as the tote gets full it would also be a good idea to get a macerator pump and put the tote on the ram first then fill it using the pump. A 4 wheel option would be nice but not sure its worth the $$. Hope that helped. Safe Travels

      You could use it as an extended stay and with the caps on tight you probably wouldn't be able to smell it. I've never tried that so not sure how smelly, if at all, it might get. As far as weight it would be tough to pick it up if full and put it in your truck. The 36 gallon model would be about 300lbs completely full.

  • @Zauberbratsche
    @Zauberbratsche Před 3 lety +1

    Nice video. I have a few questions. Your RV outlet appears to be a little lower than the tote inlet. I think that's probably typical and not really a problem as I imagine there's plenty of siphon action to draw fluid, and as you say, you don't want to get the tote completely full anyway. You say that one reason to not fill the tote completely is to leave room for the residual hose fluid, but your video does not show how to get this residual fluid into the tote. At 5:28 in the video you remove the tote end of the hose, which must leave the residual in the hose. I would think that you'd need to remove the RV end first, and tip the hose up to empty the residual into the tote. But... your RV end is a little lower than the tote, so removing the RV end would let residual out. I suppose you could try to raise the middle of the hose before disconnecting either end, to get as much residual out as possible, but you'd never get it completely out. I guess my point is that it seems like you should disconnect the RV end first. And then raise it up to completely empty the hose into the tote. What am I missing? It would be nice if your video showed the important step of getting all the hose residual into the tote without spilling any!

    • @JonesN2Travel
      @JonesN2Travel  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi there. Thanks for checking out the video and following along. Yes, you are correct; to get the residual out of the hose you have to pick the hose up and down a few times to get the remaining liquid to go uphill into the tank. When making multiple trips with the tank I leave the hose on the RV and cap the end after I remove it from the tote so the residual stays in the hose until my final trip with the tote where I will empty the residual out the of the hose. This is why you want to empty your grey tank last so if any residual water does drip on the ground it isn't black water. Hope that helps. Safe Travels

      @@JonesN2Travel Thanks for the quick reply. So it sounds like your hose end caps fit tightly enough to allow you to travel to the dump with some fluid in the hose. And once at the dump, you can of course empty the hose completely and rinse it out. Makes sense. Thanks again!

    • @JonesN2Travel
      @JonesN2Travel  Před 2 lety

      Yes, it is a bit of a struggle to get the tanks empty. What I did, once the tanks were almost empty, was to let some liquid into the hose from the RV, close the valve, and then lift up the hose in the middle forcing the liquid to drain toward and into the tank. It would be better if the tank was lower than your rig. Thanks for following along. Safe Travels

    What if the tank fill is considerably higher than the trailer empty valve?

    • @JonesN2Travel
      @JonesN2Travel  Před 4 lety

      Great questions. I usually just fill it about 3/4 full and after shutting off the RV waste valve I lift the hose numerous times to drain it into the tote tank. It isn't the best method but they did make the tote tank a bit high in my opinion. Another option, which we haven't tried yet, is to get a macerator that hooks on the end of the RV waste line. It grinds and pumps the waste through a small hose so it doesn't matter how high the tote is. Hope that helps :) Best of luck and Safe Travels
