- How we solved dumping our tanks while Mooch docking. We had no RV hook ups, no commercial dump stations or sewage services to dump our RV waste tanks.
There was no RV dumping stations nearby to drive to & there are no RV sewage services to come to our location & pump us out. So in this RV video we'll show you how we tackled this problem while staying put on this property up here in Maine for the summer while our RV is parked with RV no hook ups.

I think every RVer should carry a main 15' sewer hose and a 10' extension hose. That will give you 25' reach and certainly will be enough for any of your needs.

Another informative video guys. I was able to splice a TY on the vertical stack of our outdoor clean out to our septic tank, dig a 25’ trench and run a pipe so we can dump at home anytime. Very convenient. Luckily we can just hook up and go! Most days I deal with enough s!#%? Without having to drag more around😉 Thanks again. BTW beautiful property thatJoanie’s brother has. Perfect place to spend the summer

Much appreciate video Joanie and Martin! We have been contemplating how to better deal with blackwater transport to dump stations for a while- especially at Corps of Engineers CGs and State parks which often only have w/s hook ups. We have very good sized tanks with the blackwater holding 71 gallons. The problem with our rig is we have a washer and it is plumbed into blackwater and really uses that capacity up fast. And we do so love doing wash regularly to keep the amount of clothing limited in the moho. We bought a 10 gallon portable waste tank about 20 years ago and have rarely used it as it has no tow hitch and is a real pain to move around. Now we want to boondock and dry camp a bit more , but the washer in this rig will require more frequent runs to the dump if we want a longer stay, so we are exploring a really large portable tank. Hauling it when traveling becomes another issue but I guess that's what roof ladders are for? Towing it to the campground dump station will be a problem as when we tow our Ford Focus we have no hitch available, but it will work well when we tow our Ranger. All works well at home as I use an external macerator to pump from the moho into the waste line that passes through the rear of the garage and is plumbed directly into the septic tank. i wish could get more flow out of the macerator to get a better flush , as it has limited flow.A bit cumbersome but it all works for us. Pondering next steps.
Yeah I wished we could of plumbed ours into his sewer line to the septic tank too but just wasn't possible.
Follow up. We just had delivered a 42 gallon Barker tote tank as an upgrade and supplement to out old 10 gallon. Wow is it huge! But it should help with managing our waste quite well. Its so big I figure the county will want us to buy a license plate for it LOL! At worst I figure I can mount a chair on it and sell rides around the campground to recoup the cost! Connects well to the truck, and has pneumatic tires (and even grease fittings!) Test run in a few weeks.

Hello Martin and Joanie! Thank you very much for this awesome technique! We will be exclusively boondocking. And , we have a 40 gal black and 40 gal grey tank. As we will try to extend our stay to 2 weeks, I am sure our first trips will not make it for the 2 weeks.
So, both for the ability to do a partial dump into the portable tank mid trip, as well as to tote our waste once we are at home so as to dump into our clean out access, I will go ahead and get the 36 gal tote. Bleh…I wish they made a 40+ gal version so as to avoid ANY risk of overfill hehehehe.
I will also get a macerator pump eventually as our secondary driveway where we would stage the rig before or after a trip is about 5 feet lower than our clean out access. The macerator pump could also allow us to have the tote already in the pick up bed so we could do a mid trip dump and take that to an appropriate dumping facility.

The macerator pump and hose is a good idea too in some situations. It wasn't an good option for us.

Yes sir...I have seen your water saving video! It is awesome, like all of the others! I need to go measure our sink basin (we have a large farm sink like you) so I can get 2 tubs that fit appropriately.
The only component I have to work out for the macerator pump is building a longer connection/power wire as I recently installed a solar system, which located the batteries to the inside of the trailer, under our bed. It may be shorter to just plan to power it when connected to my truck battery.

We use Borax after each black tank flush, another Rv er talked about it so we tried it and it works great together with Happy Camper, no smell at all
So how do you apply the Borax and in what measurements? And what function does Borax perform?
1/2 measuring cup and you fill your toilet about half and then dump the borax together with the water

It reduces the black tank smell by 90percent at least and I noticed that the toilet paper is almost eaten up, it does not hurt anything to try it, we watched another Rv er using it so I said to my wife let’s try it and it works well

RVstreet, The reason most tanks stink is not the solids in the tank, but the solids that sticks to the tank inside surface over time which starts to shriek the smell. To encounter that, soft water is the answer. May consider installing a water softener for many reasons, but the main reasons are this: 1. the water heater doesn't build up calcium deposits, 2. the water fixtures doesn't build up stains or deposits on the outside which makes them easier to clean and look better longer, 3. use less soap when washing and showering, 4. the best reason.....solids and poop stick or cling to the tanks in non-soft water but in soft water solids suspend in the water and do not cling to the tank walls. So, when you dump them, all the solids are dumped and the tanks are much cleaner because of the suspension. I dealt with water treatment for 40 years, kinda know what I'm talking about. My opinion, soft water really doesn't need any chemical to pretreat the tanks before dumping.
On another thought, If you would get 150' 1" house and connect it to you macerator, wouldn't it pump the tanks to the septic tank. I think on level ground, that would be a lot easier than hauling the sewage. Take care.......

We have another 2 part series coming up soon that covers the water softener again and a few other very important things all RVers should have with them at all times.
But ya, as I mentioned in the video we did look at many options on how to get that sewage down to the septic tank which included a hose that would run 200' to the septic tank. But for several reasons that wasn't possible. So the Camco Portable was the best option for us in this situation. It really isn't that big of a deal for us. Besides it's only for 3 1/2 months and we do it twice a month. But even with a water softener we still have to use Happy Campers to totally eliminate odors. Without it, it will produce odors and especially down south in the summer where it gets really hot and really cooks that nonsense.

Hi I luv y'alls videos but I'd like to suggest to your viewers that if having to use a a smaller dump line for certain areas n reasons that (Unique RV Digest-It powder formula) works better than the (Happy Campers Powder) I have both powders n Unique has proven to work better especially in extreme hot weather. Martin when I dump a black tank I always put some fresh water back in just to make sure that tank isn’t dry when someone uses it. Is that what you’re 3 quarts plus the happy campers doing for you? Also do you have a video on how to clean off your sensors. My gray tank sensors also miss read indicating something is messing with those sensors as well any tips for gray tank sensors

NOYTE: Factory sensors are a pain for sure. But over time you learn your rig and really don't have to rely on them. Stay tuned for the video above coming out soon.

I bought one just like this one. Other makes have a float tube to show when nearly full. This one does not have one. If you fill it full you have a hose full of sewerage and no way to get rid of the excess other than dumping it on the ground. I would not buy one without a float on it. I wish I had not bought this one.
We have not had any of these type of issues with ours at all. We just carefully watch the clear elbow attached on the top on how much waste we're dumping in. In fact we just made 3 trips yesterday dumping our tanks. Extremely easy to clean to when finished.
Why not the Black tank first and use the other to flush - kinda backwards yes?

@@RVstreet yes and No and not-so-much (listen closely) - at 7:35 i's a bit confusing, you say Pull Valve 1 as the (half bath), then Valve 2 (the "Other 1/2 bath) - then at 9:20+ Valve #3 and your refer to this as the "BLACK WATER VALVE" - Hmmmm? Many folks don't have 1/2 baths and multiple gray water/black water configs - perhaps USE the lexicon Gray water and Black water tank, so people get the idea. Also it's good to let some gray go first just to wet the hose internally.
Martin, Thanks for the good info. In an earlier video you were cutting down on the heat in your rig. You painted the top of the skylight in the shower with something to cut down on heat. What was it and any other tips much appreciated. Thanks, Nick

@@nickbierman1 Yes, I taped off the sky light with 2" blue painting tape from HD around the edge-to allow a little light to still come in-and then painted 2 coats of White Dicor Fiberglass RV Roof Coating over the rest of the top. BUT....in addition to that to keep out a lot more hot sun and heat in the summer months, I added a sun shade that snaps into the shower stall over the sky light from the inside that blocks even more heat. In the winter months when I want heat to come thru the skylight to provide heat, I unsnap that skylight shade and store it under the mattress.

When you clean out the tote after you’re done with it how much bleach are you using to disinfect it?

No you didn't miss anything. I didn't go into back flushing in this video. Just how we dump in this situation.
But FWIW, we don't have a back flush plug on our tank. Tried to install one but that doesn't work on the way our plumbing and dump valves are set up. We just flush out our black tanks by putting a wand down thru the toilet about once a month to thoroughly clean the black tanks. It actually works a lot better too.
