We are Martin & Joanie. A married couple that decided to cash in all our chips by selling our house & all our stuff to become full time traveling nomads, living in our RV, a 2012 Winnebago Vista 35F Motorhome.

Level Right. It’s Important • Get Rid of Those Bad Habits
Getting a perfect or near perfect level EVERY TIME is easy-IF-you level side-to-side first.
Maintenance of leveling jacks
1) I change out hydraulic fluid in the reservoir every 2 or 3 yrs. It’s a PM item. It will remove condensation that can accumulate in the reservoir and in the entire system. Contaminated or old fluid will affect the performance of your leveling jacks. I’ve done a video on how to do this PM item.
2) I wipe down my chrome jack cylinders with my 3M dry lube and paper towels before I ever retract them. I do this to prevent pitting and also dirt that can damage the wiper seal over time. If I’m parked for long periods of time, I do it this a month while they’re extended. If your parked in an area like the coast or beach, doing this once a week will protect them from salt damage.
3) I grease my chassis once a year and while I’m at it, I give the zerk fittings 1 shot-no more-of my same chassis grease in all 4 jacks wiper seal. This keeps the wiper seals in top shape. I’ve done a complete video on how to grease your chassis yourself
4) Once a year when I do all my winter maintenance, I get under the coach and clean and use a protectant on all the leveling electrical connections
5) During the winter when in colder climates your hydraulic jacks may work a little slower than in the summer months b/c the fluid can thicken
Summary and final thoughts:
1) Concerning Snap pads, I see this question asked a lot. Personally, I don’t like them and I think they are a waste of money. And there not cheap. I know people buy them b/c they give the jack pad a larger footprint. The problem is they don’t address the length of extending or over extending the leveling jacks. You still should be putting blocking under your pads to prevent this and that also gives you the larger foot print your looking for. In my book everyone needs to put some type of blocking under their leveling jacks to keep the distance of the leveling jacks small. Doing this offers better stability and prevent the retraction springs in good health. So there’s no need for Snap Pads.
2) Having a perfect or near perfect level is not only good for the RV and makes living in the RV a lot nicer, but it’s also good for your slides, your chassis and especially your absorption fridge if you have one.
3) When leveling a motorhome never bring the rear wheels off the ground. That is where your emergency brake is. And even though you’ve seen people raise their front wheels off the ground with their leveling jacks it’s a horrible habit to practice for all the reasons I mentioned and shouldn’t be done. Leveling jacks are not LIFTING JACKS…they are leveling jacks. Leveling jacks are to be used for fine tuning to get level.
4) I highly encourage you to have blocking like I have or something similar, wood and anything else you might need to level your RV properly and to support your steps. Keep it all in one place so it’s easy to find. Everything I carry is my Amazon Store if you’re interested.
5) When were parked in the spring or summer when we run the A/C a lot, I’ll normally level the RV just slightly forward and to the drivers side so that the water from the A/C unit will drain to the front drivers side corner and down the hose I attached there so that water will drain to the ground and not run down my window or splash up on my tires.

The motorhome gas a 464 cubic inch engine. It starts & runs great
I own a 1983 gmc 30 ft motorhome. It needs alot of interior work.
You can do it. Just take you time and CZcams any questions you have. CZcams will be your best friend for the next few months. 👍

Help needed… my water heater relief valve looks like it is glued in with pipe cement or something brown . I couldn’t get the relief valve removed. I got the vinegar and water in through the winterizing system on my RV.

Do you know recommended power you can bring it down too? 20% or can you run it down all the way?
I believe you can run it to 20% but not positive about that. I am sad to say that Martin passed away and I'm not 100% sure of this answer but to be on the safe side I would run down to 20%
Hey Martin, I just love it! The ViAir RV air compressor system! I've worked in Industrial Manufacturing Maintenance all of my life, and I know the value of having a source of air pressure available at all times, especially when you are traveling in an RV Motorhome! I agree with you that the ViAir Compressor System is a wonderful item to have on your RV at all times! I loved Martin's courage and demeanor. He was such a wonderful man. I will keep you and family in prayers forever. He is such an inspiration. Thank you for sharing and I am very sad to hear of your loss. I lost my brother on Dec. 24, 2001, from hep C. I am still and will always be traumatized by his loss from his injuries from Vietnam.
Thank you for your kind words. I am very heartbroken and will always miss Martin. I guess the thing that I hold onto is the fact he is no longer in pain and I the loving arms of the lord💔
If you do get some rust on your steps, what can I do to get that rust off before putting the step covers?
If you have a lot of rust you can use a course sandpaper to get the most of it off then use a smaller grit sandpaper the smooth it out. You might want to consider applying a coat of spray paint before you put the covers on.
Hello. My only question is that on cleaning the roof you cleaned it then. Only washed it off by gentle jet wash of a hose You then later said it was dry , Ok. . In my option you did not blade the rest of the water off the roof and you did not apply any polish to the roof. In UK. We can now get Auto glym, and they now now do a wash / cleaner for caravans & Motorhomes. Do you not polish your Motorhome roof. Please.
A soapy solution was used with a brush first before hosing off the roof. Martin always used a squeegee to get the excess water off then let it air dry. I don't recall him using any polish at all.

Joanie, my heart is broken. We have learned so much from you and Martin. We are still getting through your many helpful videos when we come upon this one. I was going to make a comment, when a couple of comments turned on the water works and I got a big lump in my throat. I decided to google Martin. I am so so sorry. May God bless and comfort you and your family during this difficult time. I found a poem my dad wrote when I was looking through his things. This poem is not about death, but rather about life. Titled Graduation Day. Something to the effect we are always going through life graduating and moving on to greater opportunities. One day this tired body will need a rest while my spirit will graduate on to greater eternal opportunities. I believe when our eternal graduation day comes we are learning and we are guardián angels for our loved ones who still walk earths floor. We are more blessed because of you and Martin! Thanks for the video on the Atwood. Very helpful. Each one is a little different. I switched out my nylon plug to brass too. But I can’t imagine doing this twice a year?

Good video! Yes, been doing this 15 amp stuff while using the RV on my property with guests. However, just rewired my garage and now have 100 amps coming to it. Still have all my 15 amp original outlets. Going to update them to 20 amp and will have a dedicated one for my table saw. Will also run a dedicated 30 amp for my 30 amp RV. No more 15 amp service and when company visits in the summer, they can use the RV AC. Yes!
