Video descriptions:
0:00 Intro
0:04 Just a little overdue on some new brake pads
0:14 This is going to be a nightmare to try clean up and the smell must be awful
0:29 The shop manager really should've turned this away
0:46 Customer states car has been over heating and making screeching noises
1:03 Customer States “Just check my brakes”
1:13 Just a little bit of a leak going on there
1:29 This was just the seal that needed to be pressed in to stop the leak
1:39 I bet this customer was pleased to hear their car wasn't haunted
1:55 It was thought this spare was too small and was hitting on the brake caliper but it was the binding e-brake shoes
2:18 I suspect a large rock or if they were really unlucky a bolt
2:24 I wish customers towed their vehicle in like this instead of risking it when they know something is wrong
2:40 Extremely common issue on this generation of GMs
2:50 Customer States "vehicle made a loud bang on the highway then, started smoking out the exhaust"
2:57 I'm not sure this would be filtering much out at this point
3:05 Quite a common issue on these Nissan Rogues for the drain plugs clogging
3:14 Bit hard to hear but there is a weird intermittent rattle noise coming from the engine
3:47 This customer may have had a prank played on them as it sounds like someone's put a harmonica on their car

The only time I've heard a rattle noise like that at cold start was the timing belt tensioner (hydraulic type) failure. I wouldn't drive it because there's a good chance the timing could jump a tooth or the timing belt snapping and causing inlet valve damage.
I've seen fans hitting the shroud intermittently but doubt it is the issue here.
also muke sure the right type of oil. not just something w something. but approved version of type of oil else problems will come in new engines. No generic bulk oil into engine.
I thought bad water pump
Its what i was thinking
@@mikefoehr235 a bad water pump would be making the noise constantly and this rattle is only at cold startup. A failing hydraulic tensioner would rattle until fluid builds up again but won't hold once the engine has cooled down.
The squeal over 70 is likely the windshield. Try putting making tape around the edge and go for a drive, if it stops you can strip away a little at a time to figure out exactly where its at on the windshield. From there use a sealant made for windshields or replace any loose weather stripping. Seen this on multiple vehicles.
When we bought our brand new Corolla it did that. I had the glass replaced years later and solved the problem. Seems Toyota is prone to this issue.
I hope so; it sounds like the music in every bad horror movie right before somebody in the back seat pops up with a chainsaw.
Not sure what year car it was but maybe the speedometer cable if it has one?🤷♂
Or a harmonica & some zip ties...
@@NemoConsequentae lol my uncle rigged a smoke bomb to my dads car once I think he rigged it to the spark plug to ignite it, when we went to leave his house and my dad started the car all kinds of smoke started coming from the engine lol
That brake caliper and rotor had me laughing. How on gods earth could anyone drive it like that. The Tacoma trash truck was just gross
Chevy Chineseum lifters - priceless
That noise over 70 mph is the flux capacitor getting ready to do its thing at 88 mph.
😂
It could be the hyperdrive before going up to ludicrous speed.
2:50 looks like the customer optioned up his car with the radiator geyser feature 😂😂😂
2:52 That's the worst compression leak I've ever seen. Congratulations, I'm impressed by that find. No need to test for carbon monoxide on that one.
That rolling Dumpster/pickup was really Scary😢😢…
Appreciate the brief descriptions you've started including.
That rattling VW is most likely a timing chain related issue
The vw is a belt tensioner.
And a stupid hot air intake for less performance. GG
Just rotate the headlights and add a full-synthetic muffler. Good as new.👍
And check the blinker bearings.
Naaw man. It's the muffler bearings. Seen it lots of times. Believe it or not, that's what the mechanic at the Chrysler dealer told my exwife when she took it in. Yeah - it is a big job. Gonna cost around $900. All that was wrong was the fan belt was loose on her 1978 Dodge aspen wagon. (This was years ago)
@@johnhickman106 And high-output floormats are a MUST.
@@robertkartechner5850 What a crock. And probably not even covered under warranty.🤬
I never could understand why some people treat their vehicle like a dumpster. I’ve seen many times in my city. People are such 🐖
It’s normally a result of mental illness, in my experience dealing with cars like that. The people driving them are just not right (in my none medical opinion)
We would get on about every two months or so. We would try work with the person as much as we could, but we wouldn’t put the techs in harms way and make them go inside the vehicle.
That vehicle was far fuller than any dumpster I've ever seen, and I'll bet not as "fresh" either...
Much of it is because of what people value your vehicle at is not based on actuarial tables instead of condition. It's largely a waste of time and money to properly maintain your vehicles anymore. It's sad as I always used to impeccibly maintain mine. Just don't see the point of it anymore. I only fix things that annoy me or that are reliability/safety related. Giant ass dent? Rust damage? Don't care. When someone runs into me it will only be worth the same as some roached out POS of similar year, model, and mileage.
@@knurlgnar24 There's more to keeping your vehicle (or your home or your neighbourhood) clean than the dollar value of your vehicle. Washing you car for instance will not improve or even maintain its value, but it does point to pride of ownership and caring about appearances - not to the exclusion of all else of course, but caring about others is important.
The very best of the worst people allowed to drive moter vehicles. People should have to take some sort of class every few years on vehicle maintenance to keep their license. Thanks guys Customer States videos ROCK. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
*_Wheel siezes up while driving_*
"Yea I'm just not gonna look into that."
*_Puts on spare tire, attempts to ignore issue, issue continues with spare tire_*
"I really dont appreciate your violence in trying to get me to be proactive about my life."
OMFG!!!!!!!!!!
How do these people even get dressed and feed themselves, let alone drive a potential killing machine?
I had a '91 Ford Escort living in Florida & the speedometer cable wore down enough that below 35° it would go into full airplane propeller mode.
hey I got one of those too same thing!
The mechanic is like Santa: He knows if you've been bad or good. So tell the truth for goodness sake!
I like the explanations
I bought a used car that had the same problem as the "haunted" one. It would only do it when I was driving it. Turns out the key fob I was carrying had a short in it.
I love seeing weird electronic mishaps with modern cars. Everything worked fine 20+ years ago. Now it's more complicated, expensive, wasteful, buggy. For what ends anyways?
Last Clip, my best guess is the brake booster with a leak. Somehow the high pitch noise make it inside.
My second guess is a sealant crack around the windshield, forcing air in at high speed.
The Frewheel on the alternator rattle
3:38 It kinda sounds like a timingchain rattle of some sort or like the engine isn't getting enough fuel when it does.
Just guessing, I honestly don't know. 😂
Noise above 70 mph? It's the sound of your conscience screaming at you for speeding!!! hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
Speed limit is 80mph where I live, and traffic routinely drives at close to 100mph. I'm not saying it's right, just saying there's good reason someone may drive that fast.
The big problem with the car that the guy wants to know what the rattling noise is.......ITS A JOKESWAGON!
3:15 my 2021 jetta also makes weird noises on a cold start, always has
3:48 Check, if your windscreen is still glued to the windowframe. I have watched a video here in Germany with the same issue. Turns out, they got a new windscreen, and the shop messed it up. There was a corner (i think it was left upper corner) were the glue did not bond to the frame/window.
My sons old car brakes failed, rear line shot. Looked underneath it and the rust etc was so bad towed it to scrape yard!!! Gave him my old 13’ Verano 👍
lotta people STILL don't knw interior air filters even EXIST...as far back as the late 90's and manuals that tell you this are one of the "Five things people discard before getting rid of a car™"
Check the scanner tool for chain stretch on that VW.
Failed alternator overrun pulley by the sound of it, I had one similar.
Some people are unreal ...
What kind of noise was that truck making before they decided it wasn't derivable? How long did they put up with it?
can't hear it above the blaring music.
@@AffordBindEquipment That's how you fix it..... turn up the radio until you can't hear it.
@@jeffreydove821 I guess I'll have to try it then. But I don't think my old radio will play that loud!
I’ve seen a few cabin air filters that could have given that one a run for its money.
03:25 timing chain tensioner failing
Customer states you changed my brakes 3 years ago no my engine blew up and your responsibility
my car that i had recently bought still had the factory cabin air filters in it and it was a 20 year old car
@3:45 either a bearing or due to the system not being sealed some kind of cavitation.
That noise at 70mph is the plastic trim at the bottom of the windshield. Where the windshield meets the hood is a high-pressure area and that pressure goes over the roof and into the engine bay (also used for the heater/AC box) Tape the plastic trim to the windshield and the noise will go away.
@3:39... The water pump's bad. That cyclic whirr is the bearings as the pump builds pressure/load.
Sounds like a timing chain or some harmonic vibrations of a trim piece on the second to last clip
My VW makes a similar sound when coming down from high idle on cold starts. No idea what it is.
Just as a matter of interest, with all these utter wrecks driving around in the US, what happens when one of them causes an accident and someone gets hurt? Will the insurers sue the owner as the vehicle was obviously a death trap? I'm guessing that is what would happen here in the uk but there are less total scrappers here due to compulsory vehicle inspections every year.
Lol relax my British friend most states have vehicle inspections every year, well except Florida lol
I always find it amazing that occupants from small European countries compare themselves to countries that cover the width of a continent.
@@molotovEOD , you're right bro, but hell over there they have took most of their God given rights away, let the man have his opinion 👍
@@molotovEOD And your point is what? The size of a country doesn't matter so you can drive an un-roadworthy (unsafe) vehicle on the road and possibly kill someone?
Well, you got some snark in reply LOL. I think the answer to your question is "yes", and it would probably go further than that if negligence can be proved in the case of death or injury. I've seen mechanics on these types of videos give *written* notice that the vehicle is not safe to drive and is beyond reasonable repair. They don't want any part of that. Of course they can't stop the owner just getting in it and driving it away anyway...
Only 16 states (of 50) in the US require mandatory vehicle safety inspections according to my research. The are Delaware, Hawaii, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, and West Virginia. That's according to "OLR research report on vehicle safety inspections" and appears to be from 2015. Wikipedia has a slightly different list: Connecticut (commercial only), Delaware, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland (registering used and interstate vehicles only), Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Vermont, Virginia and West Virginia.
Some of those states, like Texas are discontinuing inspections. Emissions testing seems to be dealt with differently than safety testing, as is VIN inspections on purchase of used cars in states that may or may not have mandatory safety testing.
The reason for this appears to be the relatively small number of cases of unsafe vehicles reported as being the cause of a fatality (0.7%). That 2015 report has some interesting data. The problem is, it's also possible that unsafe vehicles being the cause of an accident maybe under reported if the main cause was obviously one of the big three- following too close, driving while intoxicated, or losing control of vehicle (ie falling asleep or driving recklessly). If you have an obvious cause, I suspect it may not seem worthwhile to investigate a wrecked vehicle to find out if there were any other contributing factors such as poor brakes or handling.
We don't have mandatory testing here, but I've seen plenty of cars in poor shape with bald under inflated tires. If they can't get the basics right, it's quite likely that the owner is cutting corners in other areas as well such as suspension and steering. Partly this is due to lack of adequate policing with an increasing reliance on automated systems to catch driver behaviour that is more likely to raise revenue. Mandatory testing is probably more likely going forward if people won't or can't do basic maintenance.
VW-timingchain-tensioner 3:42 if its a 2.0tfsi check for low oilpressure at idle.
These new front mount transmissions and engine layouts cause the passenger side upper motor mount to do this. My sounds like that it starts out as just a bump and then it's a cold start and now it's constant. Parts on the way not soon enough
3:35 Sounds like a Timing chain issue to me
I'd have the transmission check for the high pitch noise in the last one. That's what I heard before mine went out on me.
High pitched noise on last one was a windshield seal leaking……
VW: Timing chain assembly should be looked at. BUT, simple mechanics stethoscope should narrow it down down more if it is an external pulley.
timing chain is hitting that little metal clip on lower timing cover. very common issue of those engines.
vw; that's the over-running clutch on the alternator.
For sale. First gen Tacoma. Interior is a little rough and there's some rust in the wheel wells. $15k firm, no low ballers
Not sure what the noise is.. Is that plastic engine cover loose? It looks like some of the cover fasteners are shaking all over the place, and there are suspicious cracks around most of them.
3:40 Just VAG 2.0 problems.
how many miles on that chewed up lifter?
could be the water pump running dry
2:40 is a class action lawsuit.
SOUNDS LIKE A GOLF
To be fair, for the second one if hit happened at night, they may not have seen whatever they hit. (Particularly if distracted.)
I love how all the comments are people immediately knowing and diagnosing the problems with the cars and I'm over here going, "What's that? Oh! What's that? Wow! Really?!" Perks of being a lady 😅😅
My car made a horrendous sound on Start up once , It was only my naybours cat going through the fan , pressure washed off ok
Air Raid Siren!
Vw is timing chain tent
Timing belt or chain…..
I think the problem on the Volkswagen is the alternator pully.
Yup. Either an overrun alternator pulley or a belt/chain tensioner. Really can't be anything else and someone who knows that particular vehicle should be able to easily point it out.
GM has perfectly fine lifter quality.
3:05 What's the deal with drain plugs clogging? If it's a plug it's doing it's job I think.
it's meant to let water out that comes from upside. think of a convertible top housing or a pickup bed. they also should keep out water from below, slushed up by the wheels, so no road dirt comes in. if they clog up quickly they are poorly designed, as the dust that likely is coming in won't be flushed out with the rainwater.
@@lotharrenz4621 Thanks. I guess what I'm saying is it isn't a "plug", it's a drain valve or some other more suitable term
@@rogerknapman1260 of course, naming things is tricky. even those who ought to know better have nicknames for tools and parts... whatever became of specific terms? they exist for reasons.
a conversation I had with someone who ought to know:
"Hand me that nut there." me: "What nut?"
"That one right before your face!"
"That's a bolt."
"I know, right? I was too lazy to say nut!"
if there had been a wall in reach I would have parked my forehead before it. :P
The clogged drain is also a problem on the 2016 Versa.
Thumbs down for the blasphemy at 0:45
Bore-off!!
That drain hole was plugged, not clogged. Do you even know mechanics?
Actually there is a hole in the plug to allow drainage. So there was a clog in the plug.
