0:05 2008 Dodge Ram 1500. The axle shafts were both damaged (before it was rebuilt) but they just replaced 1 axle shaft instead of both. The bearing race on the passenger side was missing as well.
0:20 Bicycle holder on the rear was bouncing around and making the rattling noise that the customer hears.
0:30 Tires/wheels were on a trailer. The customer drove away with the trailer.
0:42 "We were test driving it and I had my mechanic get out to unplug the map sensor because it was throwing a code for it and I revved it while he was unplugging it, then found this. Funniest thing I’ve seen in a while"
0:54 The mechanic repaired the leak, redid the brake line then bled the brake system.
1:10 Fuel tank needed to be replaced as the customer screwed multiple self-tappers into the fuel tank.
1:20 As mentioned the customer tried to plug a USB-C cable into a regular USB port.
1:36 The customer just recently bought this vehicle used and was not informed of the features that it had.
1:46 The customer is going through their insurance company to get the repairs done.
2:01 The customer towed a dump trailer that was too big/heavy for the truck they have. A 3/4 ton or 1 ton would have been better for the job. They are trying to get insurance to cover the damage.
2:13 International with a Cummins Engine. The technician isn't quite sure what the driver put in the diesel exhaust tank to make it look like cheese. He thinks maybe they put diesel in the tank by accident or hydraulic fluid.
2:22 "Customer had "engine work" done at another local shop. Driving it home the car apparently filled with smoke and then quit running. She had a new battery installed and warranted it 3 times. It came to our shop and you couldn't even jump it. The battery-positive cable to the starter was shorted to the ground. Found there were only 3 of the 4 bolts holding the AC compressor in. Removed the compressor and found the reason why- the 4th bolt hole was blocked by the B+ cable sandwiched between the compressor and its bracket."
2:39 2022 Dodge Ram 1500. The technician wasn't informed who/what shop apparently did this. So they think it might have been the customer.
The rear differential pinion melted since there was no gear oil in the differential.
2:54 "Plugged in the tester, but couldn't find anything valid.
I suggested it was an electronic failure of a French car (I'm used to, that French cars could behave a little bit strange issues, sometimes). So I disconnected the battery, but the alarm was still going. Then I found the Alarm-clock. Me and my customer laughed."
3:09 In the last photo you can see that the customer's "friend" installed the head gasket incorrectly as the part that says FRONT is supposed to be at the front of the engine.
3:24 "1974 Corvette 454, tko 500 5 speed Granatelli cutouts."

Welcome back! YAY!!
Welcome back, you were missed
👍🏼👊🏼🦖🍺
👋 👋
I was wondering where you went. However, you probably already told us you were leaving for a while. But I’m old and I didn’t notice that. Then again, my cars are running really really well.
Thank god you're back! I was having withdrawal symptoms without my JRI!
Bruh mystery substance be looking like Mac and cheese 😂😂😂😂
I thought it was spray foam
Shells
More like spray foam!
Maybe because it is
YES EXACTLY I thought it was shells and cheese 😂😂😂😂
“The mechanic had to inform the customer that the vehicle did not have these features” are always the best ones
@@ivanchairez5218 I wonder if they headed back to the dealership right after to grouse about being sold the wrong car?
I heard these myself. Two or three years after the "features that never were" disappeared, they "suddenly" came back. Some electrical glitch inside the panel, and voila, they're alive.
A friend works at a "quick lube" place. Had to explain to a customer why he couldn't do an oil change in his fairly new Tesla!!
I'm pretty sure that's a VW Atlas or a Tiguan in the video. I know that some of the 2021/2022 models of those were shipping from the factory with some of the "standard" features missing (including the power liftgate) due to parts shortages, along with a couple hundred dollar discount on the factory sticker for the missing features.
My favorite, so far, is where the customer complained about the air conditioning not working and the vehicle doesn't have it installed.
"Another shop did this..." is always code for "I tried to do it myself, and bungled it up" 🤣🤣🤣
Have you seen the number of shops out there with crappy reviews from shoddy work? It's a lot of them. There is a reason people have to go from shop to shop or even dealer to dealer until they find one that does quality work and doesn't give them the run around.
I actually did a diff service on someone's car and forgot to put fluid back in. They brought the vehicle back about 400 miles later saying something was noisy. I fixed it for them at no charge to them.
When I screw up, I admit that I did it, life is so much easier.
Maybe some of the time, but there are a ton of incompetent shops out there.
@@ZboeC5 I bet you hacked up and ruined a fix on your vehicle and blamed a shop for it so dude c'mon let's be real 90 percent or more of people are completely lying about that shop nonsense, it's always a shop did this and that when reality is they actually tried to fix it themselves with zero knowledge and if you don't know how to work on vehicles bring your vehicle to actual professionals, instead of doing even more damage like fools do, there are bad shop out there but not everywhere like you say.
I think the people who come in for some weird noise or rattle should get an award. I'd rather be sharing the road with them, who go to a shop when the suspect anything, even if it turns out to be something silly. Then share the road with people who dive off with missing wheels
15-20 years ago, I used to build PCs for a living. A customer brought one back to our company and said the fax line doesn't fit into the "plug". He brought the cable to show us. He was sticking an RJ11 into an RJ45 (a phone line into an ethernet jack). Granted many people were new to computers at the time, but it's not rocket science. I felt embarrassed for him as I took the cable and snapped it into the correct jack a couple of inches below. I know these people exist, whether it's cars or anything else.
I had a day like that (as the customer,) when trying to put brake pads on a car. I somehow got the wrong ones at the store, despite saying the right car. A while of angry cussing later, I exhausted myself enough that my brain was struggling to understand basic math when I returned the wrong parts for the right ones. In other words, getting that kind of mad didn't help.
I still work in a company also now 20 years. The customers still f... this up but now it is more that they do not find the correct graphics card connector. Onboard Graphics Connector --> Dedicated Graphics Card. Then they complain PC does not boot or Graphic Performance is slow 😂
@@TrekZero I built a system for a guy once and he asked me if it was powerful enough to handle the cloud 😂 That's back when the term was first being used, maybe '07. I had to keep a straight face while I told him yes, as long as you have an internet connection.
You should think about creating a yt channel similar to this, only for what you do. I'm sure you've got plenty of material to work with.
RJ-15 snaps in fine to the RJ-45 port... it just won't do nothing.
I was in an aparment doing a window AC and noticed the guys TV was connected to his PS3 with AV cables instead of HDMI. I was unable to reach him as he said he has HDMI.
Now I want to know how long the woman had been waving her foot at her back bumper thinking she had a lift gate sensor before taking it into the shop.
The scary part is, they reproduce.
I was trying to figure out what a liftgate itself was :P
Maybe it´s already a tiktok dance.
My daughter wanted to open the trunk lid of my brother in law’s car and she didn’t understand why it doesn’t open by itself. When I told her she needs to lift the trunk lid with her hands she gave me that “wtf dad look”. She never had to open an non electric trunk lid. Unbelievable 😂
@@Neptun2006 "You mean you have to use your _hands?"_
"That's like a baby's toy!" ..... *Sigh.*
I love seeing the "home fixes" that people do.
Aka "another shop"
😂
@@volvo09I refuse to allow a shop to do warranty work if it's their labor that they're fixing.
Part failure? Sure.
Labor fuck ups? Not a chance in hell will I allow you to try again.
@@JohnnyD1993 best part is when they give you those surprised bambi eyes for not trusting them with another job :/
Seems a few need new “friends”🤷🏼
Using copper water line (the size you use to run water a refrigerator with an ice maker) is top level dumb-genuity.
The USB one is... wow. Life must be hard for the customer.
I'm sure there are adults out there who couldn't complete one of those baby shape-sorter toys. You see them at the supermarket trying to put a large trolley back into the end of a row of small trolleys, and getting really frustrated that it won't fit.
Interesting that mundane issues like that usually apply to Toyota/Lexus vehicles (that car was 100% a Lexus)
Not to condone the stupidity, but it's completely silly to me how technology came up with a "this is the default connector for all gadget stuff going forward" then switch to "hurr durr, this is just like that other thing except different cuz we like to make more money pl0x, herpa derp hyuk".
@@BuriedFlame except, usb c is better in every single way. It has tangible benefits to users... You are aware it's cheaper for companies to keep the same form factor, right?
@@alimanski7941 I wouldn't say that, it has its advantages but IMO it's a fairly flimsy connector clearly designed with things like smartphones in mind I feel. USB-A connectors are much more robust and will likely continue to be used due to that. Note that USB-C is just a connector type, USB 3.0 and whatnot can be implemented with any type of connector and that is what most desktop computers continue to use. Not sure how things will change with USB4 though since that mandates USB-C, but I have a feeling that isn't going to stick because it's like I said just a flimsy connector and not suitable for a lot of things, maybe they'll have to create a new type A connector that has more pins to have the desired bandwidth and maybe be bidirectional as well, who knows.
My favourite stories are always the "Sir/Ma'am.. this is a 98 honda accord.. it doesn't have self driving and parking assist.." types.
?
@@thetaekwondoe3887 Referring to the young ones who think an *older car* is going to be just the same as a much newer one. It's like "this 1985 Chevrolet Caprice *doesn't* have an Aux Jack, or a CD Player, or even a Cassette Player. And no, *this* is the window crank, there are no power windows."
Ahhhh, the classsic "Fill your diesel exhaust fluid tank with hollandaise sauce" trick, I see someone has been learning the true culinary arts.
Ahhh the old “my friend” and “another shop” excuse haha
*was making air quotes motions at the monitor when those words were mentioned*
Welcome back! As a mechanic I love seeing what people will drive! That being said my car is always the last to be fixed
I know two types of mechanics: those whose car is always in the bay because it isn't quite perfect enough, and those who only fix things when they absolutely can't be put off any longer.
I'm # 2 lol
@whiterook8022 We at least know how long we can let something go though lol
"...and now this screw will never rust!" 🤣🤣
LOL At the Diesel Exhaust Fluid tank.. Looks like it was filled with Mayonnaise
That alarm clock under the seat was pretty funny! 😂
I love the last shots of the fine cars. They help heal the cringe from so called mechanics. They used to give me a lot of my work back in the day but damn frustrating. Lol
Thanks again 👍
Fine cars? Saw a cracker AMC Gremlin on the road today. Been ages since I last saw one. Almost owned one too but that’s another, but sad story.
What a beautiful Corvette!!! Art on wheels.
The turkey baster gave me a good laugh. Good to see you're back, life is a little sweeter again.
I just woke up from a nap and realized you’re back. Welcome back, I hope all’s well with you and your family.
Ah yes, the old “my friend fixed it for me” story.
Thanks David!
Literally the same 1 day later 😂
with "friends" like that doing your vehicle work it may be better to let your enemies work on it!
Welcome back and hope you had a good break
Nice selection of “My friend did this…” and “Another shop didn’t do…” Why don’t customers just save time and hassle and admit they messed up and need help fixing it
A lot of those "another shop" things actually are other shops. I know a couple of professional drivers who occasionally have to take their vehicles to unfamiliar shops and it's like a 50-50 chance of them either not doing something they said they did, and you paid them for, or them doing something wrong. I don't know how they get away with it myself, but neither of the guys I know try to get their money back or anything as it's "not worth the hassle" so maybe that's how most people are.
I know lots of people will trade a case of beer or two for work on their car. The problem is most helpful mechanic friends have a habit of consuming the alcohol before the job is finished...
Also I have done a brake job on my Vette, fronts went okay but in the rear GM uses some ungodly drum in a disk park brake...Rear brakes went together okay but I couldn't get the park brakes to work. I took into the shop and told them what I had done and they figured out how to fix it and didn't even charge me extra. My old Mustang had disc rear brakes and I never had an issue with those. In my opinion Ford's park brake system is superior to GM's solution as it requires no extra work when replacing pads or rotors and is just as effective. Better yet isn't a damn drum brake system inside a disc brake that takes longer, uses more parts and cost more money to fix.
The front suspension and steering on my school bus were completely rebuilt last week and it's like driving a brand new bus. The boss made sure that it was a reputable shop. No fly by night operations thank you,
When ever the customer says "another shop" they really mean, "I tried to do it myself"
The back up sensor video reminds me about local Nissan dealership that had to inform a few customers their new 4wd Navara was getting bogged because it wasn't 4wd. Visually they look identical, until you look for front drive shafts.
The alarm clock made me laugh... Back when we all wore watches, most of them had an alarm AND you could make it beep every hour on the hour. Bought a car once... every hour would hear a weird beep but couldn't figure it out for a while until one day doing some cleaning and pulled the rear seat only to find a watch with hourly beep turned on... I laughed pretty hard when I found it.
Hey, I missed you! Glad you're back with more content.
Interesting, how many people have tried to save money by having "a friend" do the work, and end up spending more money to fix what the friend messed up.
that's always bugged me about that. i was 'that friend'. except i knew what i was doing. i'm old now, so i have to have my kids help me with my stuff anymore. (i taught my son and daughter well) it's just if you don't know what you're doing? don't say you do. i never took money of course. maybe a six pack and a pizza. still though, just don't. good way to lose a good friend.
It is a failure by society. We have to have our cars so we have to pay the price. There should be tiered pricing, repair trans, rebuild an engine higher price, change oil, plugs, tune up, etc. lower prices. Of course, I'm dreaming.
Moral of the story, unskilled labor is very expensive
@@StuartRedman doubles the cost.
I'm guessing that, in a lot of these cases, there is no "friend." It's probably the vehicle owner who did the work, but they don't want to admit that they messed up.
Welcome back! Thank you for featuring my car in the photos at the end
Thanks for sharing the photo with us!
about time your back! was having just rolled in withdrawal!!! hope your time off was awesome!
Having friends is nice… makes for interesting and remarkable auto repair videos.
Need more friends like these. 😉👍
That was fun. I liked the Ford Bronco II at the end too -- those were so cool.
Welcome back! We’ve missed you, but hope you had a good break. That Corvette really did look *and* sound beautiful, didn’t it?!
Looooove the paint colour
I can sympathize with the owner whose car filled with smoke. I once had a clutch replaced by a dealer and less than 1/4 mile from their shop there was an electrical fire where the big fat battery cable went in to the starter. They tried to tell me it wasn't related, after going round and round with them I told them my insurance covers fire and I'd let them handle it. Funny - they grudgingly fixed it. I never patronized them again.
Amusing as usual. The Vett at the end was a great 'dessert'!
I would have liked to see the profile of its cam. Bet the lobe was almost a rectangle.🙂
Good to see you back.
Edit: That's a nice sounding Corvette.
Sounds like the 350 in my boat. Minimal muffling.
The "OTHER SHOP" & "FRIEND" is the same excuse as, " I DID THIS MYSELF !!"
Hey, welcome back. And first up? 'Friend fixed it'. Just know it's going to be a gem. Thanks.
Hope you had a good break.
If ever I feel down or defeated with automotive & home repair I just watch another of your videos,
It makes instantly makes me feel like a genius!
Glad your back, missed these videos that help me feel smart!😂
That Vette just sounds like a summer cruise night 😁
... Kinda like a "Corvette Summer" would you say?
You need to start putting more and more of these beauties in the end so we can forget faster the horror we just saw lol
Thank you for that palate cleanser at the end. I really needed it after this one 😂
I am betting that the alarm clock was a prank on the customer. Good idea, like the harmonica in the grill one.
That's a really good idea for a prank if thats what happened
i always wonder how they come up with "why is my backup sensor not working" when they dont have any
A lot of people have friends that don't know shit about working on vehicles
LOVE the sound of the Stingray at the end! 👍
Modern charging cables being USB C on both ends has been devastating for society at large.
Welcome back! Please take your time and make sure to ensure you have some balance in your life. There's more to life than youtube, so if you need a few extra days to release a video, that's fine with us!
I appreciate that!
Awww, bless. That’s sooo wholesome.
Welcome back! I still remember this one time when I was working at Spectrum. I was in a 26 Ft box truck picking up equipment, and when I tried to leave the truck started; but had issues like it wasn't running right. Took the company 6 hours to come get me with a tow truck, and it turns out someone put the wrong fluid in the DTF container on the truck.
I had to wait 2 hours for a Penske tech to make a ~20min drive to tell me the truck needed a tow (duh). It was another two hours before the tow truck arrived. Luckily the truck was in my driveway, and I got a ride back to our shop after the Penske tech left.
That Vette at the end sounded healthy!!!!
DONT STOP POSTING....your doing a great job unlike the other lame channels who gotta steal your slogan
JRI is back, people!
The guy who wrecked his pickup frame is a future Darwin Award winner, probably while trying to pull a 53 foot trailer with said pick up.
2:59 lol a customer with a sense of humor.
2:13 The substance is obviously vanilla custard. This truck had a sweet tooth!
I like it when you finish the video with a hot car with a hot cam just idling. 😊 after all the stupidity you show it’s nice to see something running well. We missed you for a while, glad you’re back. Mike from Montreal.
I'm sure the Stingray owners' neighbors just love to hear him pull into his driveway at night.
Apparently the new DEF system is just macaroni and cheese. 🤔😂
Every mechanic should dramatically roll their eyes, anytime a customer starts off with, "a friend/another shop. . ."
Seems to be a new customer every day at the "A Friend" car repair chain.
the alarm clock one warms the heart and wakes you up
Good to have you back.
I recently did a brake job on a 2014 GMC 1500. It has 168,000 miles and had never had the brakes done. All 4 routers were down to the cooling fins. And that vet sounds great 👍
4 routers? That must get great Wi-Fi.
That was a sweet-talking 'Vette!
Everytime I get to the clip at the end with the good car I have a mini heart attack thinking someone did something terrible to it, hah. But then instant relief when I see that it's running well.
Well, that 'Vette had, I believe, the wrong A-pillar chrome. I think that the chrome was only fitted to the '78 and later models, but this was at the latest a '77 with the flat rear glass. I'm happy for corrections, though!
Maybe I'm spoiled by modern engines, but it sounds like a misfire
@@dave161141 That engine was very likely not designed for a roller cam - so there are limits to what the exhaust can do even with headers. That cam is certainly pushing the streetable limits.
@@dotancohen It's certainly pretty lumpy. Be fun in stop start traffic.....
Glad you’re back. It’s some of the only content I look forward to.
I missed these vids. Not sure I missed my weekly dose of losing any remaining faith in humanity.
That first clip: damn I can’t get the shims in. I know, I’ll take out the bearing race. There we go. Like a glove.
Another 'mystery' shop did the repair. Code for, I did it myself and fu**ed it up but too embarrassed to own up to it. 😂
1974 Corvette 454 sounds beautiful ❤
I see I'm late, but I agree, that DEF tank was definitely shell macaroni and cheese 🧀 😋 😅
Hope you enjoyed your time away. Thanks for compiling all these great clips!
So good, it's astonishing how clueless some people are. Love your vids!!
YES!! JUST ROLLED IN DAY!!
Glad to see you back, have missed your content. Hope you are well and rested :)
What a beautiful car.
You know the sad thing is, as a mechanic for 30 years this stuff isn’t rare… it’s common. I ran into a messes like these all the time. More in independent shops than the dealers, but still found them in dealership shops too.
I really appreciate the last clip always being something someone is proud of. Super cool
Great video as always .... & love that Stingray!!!
That last clip is a sound of beauty. Would love to hear to rev down the street.
I will never understand why people think they can weld and fix their cars, but clearly dont know how to do either
I can [JB] Weld my car and I can fix it; I just can't seem do both at the same time.
Agreed! This is why professional drivers have mechanic's......you do your job I'll do mine by driving hard. Hence the reason I can actually drive hard.
These videos never get old
Glad to hear that!
That last part of the videos where you show an actually well made classic helps with dealing with the insanity of the rest of the video. It's a "now now, all is right in the world" kind of deal.
Always good for a few laughs. 😂 Thanks!
That lovely Corvette at the end sounds like it's idling in 3/4 time. How Straussful...
"My friend fixed it" should be it's own series at this point
Welcome back dude, hope you had a good break 👍 clips are as good as ever 👌
Great. Loved the alarm clock.
Dude intentionally overloaded his ultra light duty pickup and thinks insurance is going to pay for it
I always find the polarity of these incidents insane. You have people trying to completely repair their vehicle themselves who don't know how, and then people who don't have the brain capacity of a 3 year old to realize what they're plugging in doesn't fit in that hole.
2:39 good ol' "another shop"! never fails to bring them to a real shop.
I'm sure dot won't notice the missing tire when they cross the scales 😂
0:57 "day 312 of bleeding brakes, we thought we felt some stiffness in the pedal. Turns out our legs were giving up"
I’m doing as well as I can. Hope you had a wonderful vacation 👍👍
The corvette at the end... wow... so beautiful.
I always love how you have always have a clip of a car that looks good.
Customer states: My engine sounds very lumpy.
These videos are more frightening than horror movies.
We missed you!!!!
WELCOME BACK!! Hope you enjoyed! I'm doin' great, just got promoted at my job, yeee owo
The clip with the Cummins Engine made me gape the widest in shock I've yet gaped. It really does look like legit cheesy shells.
I enjoy the bottom right outro pic, definitely a YOLO moment.
