One of my all time favorites since I saw the rerelease in ‘88. Also, originally, Sinatra wanted Lucille Ball to plays Raymond’s mother.
She would’ve been great too, but it definitely worked out beautifully as is.
Fantastic movie and Sinatra was a really good actor, he was good in drama, comedy, romance. Incredibly talented man.
Great to see someone else say it! haha I totally agree.
What a fantastic film--I'm surprised you'd never seen it before. I've never watched a 4k film, but you've piqued my interest!
I know! So glad I finally did though.
One of my top ten films of all time. Am in full agreement with you regarding Harvey, It's easily his best performance and, IMHO, one of the very finest performances of that entire decade. Oh, and Lansbury should have won the best supporting actress oscar she was nominated for. She was definitely "top of the class" in 1962. Great, great film.
Another very fine review - thanks. I count this film as a horror sub-genre. The mother and the Communists are monstrous (especially in the disturbingly surrealistic "garden ladies' meeting"). And "Wo Fat" is always a smoothly sinister baddie.
My one problem is how the Harvey character is a Britt, apparently born in the bosom of an American aristocratic political family. He didn't get it from his mother, whose accent at best was "mid-Atlantic". Anyway, other than that I think this is a virtually perfect film.
Great film. I own this on Blu-ray
Nice!
Although I don’t believe so, some think Janet Leigh’s character was involved in the conspiracy and was Sinatra’s handler!
Ok, now that’s very interesting! It would explain why she was so immediately attached to Sinatra, even though I personally didn’t have a problem with that. Much like Eva Marie Saint in North by Northwest.
It does seem suspicious how she just happened to be sitting on the train across Sinatra and watching him so closely…it add an exciting element to the story line that’s for sure!
@@the90z BUT she wasn't in Korea, or captured by Chinese/Russians, so wasn't subjected to "brainwashing" -- which was a dumb US paranoia during the 1950s.
I am a big fan of Kino Lorber’s 4K movie line. I still need to buy this one and Ronin but other then that I own every single Kino Lorber 4K release.
Dang, that’s awesome! Congrats!
Can't go wrong with Laurence Harvey - he was in some great movies in the '50s and '60s. Angela Lansbury frighteningly wonderful here!
Not a fan of Sinatra at all. He's always playing Sinatra and his presence has ruined a lot of movies for me.
Sinatra is my favorite recording artist of all-time, so I’m sure some bias is coming in. haha
