The film is also significant in being arguably the first Hollywood-produced film to feature proper Asian martial arts in a fight scene.
There are at least 20 Kino films that I would have bought but costing between 40/60 us dollars each to import that's 800/1200 in lost sales with me alone. Why boutique labels can't distribute internationally is a source of frustration to me. Dam the lawyers and bean counters. Not just KL Criterion Shout etc.
Yes, it seems that most U.S.-based boutiques have to make a deal with a UK distributor, such as what Vinegar did with Eureka in releasing Burning Paradise and 88 with Righting Wrongs and The Iceman Cometh. However this appears to ad hoc and not an ongoing thing. I understand why the smaller boutiques need to do this, but you'd think someone like Kino who are becoming rather large and appear well funded can't run an international distribution arm.
