CORRECTION: I mistakenly said that Andrew Stevens played the killer in 10 to Midnight, but it was actually Gene Davis. I’m sure you could tell from the video that I didn’t know the name, and looked it up in the moment. Unfortunately, I zeroed in on the wrong name. My apologies, and thanks to everyone that pointed this out.

Runaway Train was part of that short lived period where Golan and Globus backed either established or up and coming filmmakers and for the most part stayed out of the way as long as the films didn’t go over budget. They were “package” flicks, where theaters had to book them if they wanted to get the new Chuck Norris or the new Bronson. Other good ones from that era are “Barfly” and “That Championship Season.” Any studio besides Cannon puts out those two, and they’d have been award show darlings.

As always what makes this channel so unique and essential is that Daniel goes the extra mile to cover films nobody else on CZcams does or even knows or cares about. In my 20’s in the 1980’s you would have never caught me seeing any Cannon product. I was such a film snob, but all was not lost as now I love seeing all this cheesy crud and it’s not even nostalgia driving it! I think it’s because unlike action movies made nowadays the Cannon balls from the 80’s are not so self-referential, they are just solid action movies without pretension or ass wipes from other movies the directors grew up watching on cable. THESE are those original movies that defined cable! It’s where it all started!

But I had a huge crush on him when he was doing the TV show "Cobra". For many years I avoided movies that I thought might be too violent. However, as the years have gone by, for better or for worse, I've toughened up when it comes to bloody violence. TCM2 is one of my favorite horror-comedies, partly because it's so batshit crazypants, partly because the entire cast goes for full contact and full commitment, and partly because it features one of the best soundtracks of its era: Concrete Blonde, the Cramps, Oingo Boingo, Timbuk 3, and more. When it comes to great "alternative music" 80s film soundtracks, only Repo Man exceeds TCM2.

I'm a big fan of your channel! You could be my long lost brother because we like so many of the same horror movies. I may have missed it, but have you seen 'Play Misty for Me?' It's pretty great.

I´m glad Cyborg was on the list. I love that movie and my brother had a VHS copy in the late 80´s so it´s good memories.
I also love how the 80´s imagine the apocalypse/future with a dying planet/fantasy etc. You should do a second list because Cannon Group released so many movies. Another favourite for me is The Barbarians. My brother also had that movie on a VHS.

I've seen so many of these movies (not quite all) and own at least 3, Over the Top, Invasion USA, Lifeforce. My grandfather loved movies when I was growing up, so I saw most of these before I hit double digits in age. I also love and own Masters of the Universe. I've been looking for Avenging Force, as I liked that one.

I think lifeforce should have been number 1. Not only is it the craziest of the Cannon movies (which is not small feat), but it also kind of fits on a meta level. Cannon films did not have much commercial success, and even though they produced a ton of cult hits they just weren't making the money. Lifeforce is the perfect encapsulation of that.

I was 10 when Bloodsport came out - and I remember my friends down the street rented it - and it completely blew our prepubescent minds apart. It was as if somebody cracked our heads opened and put every cool thing we wanted to see in a movie in this VHS tape. By the time they're glueing broken glass to their knuckles, I was on the verge of full black out due to the amount of awesomeness we were seeing. I spent a year legitimately training to do a full split after seeing this movie.

I will never forgive Joe Zito from moving to action films with Chuck Norris. He had the potential to be an excellent horror director, but he moved to mediocre action films (in my opinion).
It also makes me sad that Tobe Hooper’s Cannon movies were box office bombs, because they were probably the best canon films I’ve seen. Lifeforce and Invaders from Mars is great, and TCM 2 is pretty solid for what it is, although I don’t jive with the humor.

I was 12 when "Cobra" came out, and I convinced my dad to take me to see it. I absolutely loved the opening supermarket shootout, and the cult serial killer aspect was creepy. I also went to see "King Solomon's Mines" back in the day, and it was a fun "Indiana Jones" ripoff. I also liked "Street Smart" from '87, starring the late Christopher Reeve and Morgan Freeman as a pretty scary villain.

Another hidden gem by Cannon from 1988 is the movie Salsa! The Motion Picture of which stars a former Menudo singer Robby Rosa, I saw this in Ecuador at the time and it was real popular I think moreso than in the US partially because salsa music is more popular in Latin American countries.

x Interesting story relating to Sylvester Stallone almost being Beverly Hills cop...in the 80s I ordered a Rambo-style knife from a mail order in a magazine (it was awesome btw!).
o In Axel F, there is a Rambo Knife and it is actually a significant yet brief part of the movie!
x I am a huge Sylvester Stallone fan, he is one of my favorite actors!
x I am a huge Jean-Claude Van Damme fan too, he is also one of my favorite actors!
x I added 10 to Midnight, Lifeforce, and Bloodsport to my August Watchlist!
o I have seen Bloodsport before, classic movie!
o I will have to find the right time to watch the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise...
x I also wrote down the entire list of this video in my notebook!

52 Pick Up! A crazy, crazy, crazy thriller! Directed by John Frankenheimer, written by Elmore Leonard, starring Roy Scheider, Anne Margaret and a scary, scary Clarence Williams III. It's a Quinten Tarantino movie before Tarantino. This one, Runaway Train and Street Smart (the reason Christopher Reeves made Superman IV) are Cannon's Criteria Collection! Hell, Runaway Train was nominated for an Academy Award!
