- In this video I will review the Taipan Mutant and compare it with the Kalibrgun Cricket. I will also be shooting AVS Slugs with Taipan Mutant out to 100 yards as well as pellets.
If you do not want to watch the comparison and go straight to the range goto minute 18:47 - Sport
Awesome video Steven love my taipan thanks for sharing it's nice seeing a video from you it's been a while
Love my Tiapan Vet. Awesome guns
Love the guns, and all the testing. Grat video.
Nice report Stephen. I have heard nothing but good things from Taipan owners and from what technical drawings as well as photos of the mechanics it appears to be a very well engineered PCP. The AVS 26'ers did very well and I am not surprised by those results, to be honest.
The weather pattern we in the North East have seen in the past 4 weeks has been insane and I applaud your diligence in getting out there and testing like a trooper.
Looking forward to your next video.
Hey Haji, hope all is well. Thanks for the encouragement. It's definitely a labor of love.just waiting for my JSAR Raptor to arrive. TJ slug barrel
What diameter 24gr and 26gr AVS slugs were you using? AVS has a few options available. Thanks
Hi love the vids if you remove the side plate ,only two screws and file a shallow slot at the end of the hole for the mag release it will hold the lever back while you fit mag in place then you just release mag button. You can purchase these from various sites on UK ebay cheaply.I have had my cricket.177 sub 12ft/lb for 5 years never missed a beat best gun I ever had.Keep making the vids Mike.
Welcome back sir
edgun and Crickets where the air rifles that really started the bullpups revolution in my opinion. Top it off they are the only air rifles I have not traded or sold in in the past 7 years.
They have particularly the Cricket since your talking about that one particular has never let me down along with Moa to sub Moa at 100
Great video
Great video congrats!
Some airgun company need to make your their marketing guy! Great presentation of information.
Those are amazing guns. Very versatile, accurate, and can be really upgraded for serious power. I’m still in love with my Liberty’s too much and am having a blast with them. Thanks for the info for the up graded peek valve. Awesome and fixed the problem and handles that guns power so much better. Thank you. I bought a fixer upper from ATI, a Freedom. It is leaking from Beijing the pressure gauge inside the receiver at the back of the valve assembly. It’s made of brass and appears to have corroded at the very rear. Nova Vista stamped Do not remove but I had to and thought it would just be a seal to replace. Yeah there is a seal at the front but at the rear of the assembly is a type of putty??? I have no idea what it is so I can buy some and fix it. I tried to use a seal and sealant, out the locking pin back through it and reassembled the gun...still leaks. I understood when I bought it for 100$ it is a parts gun but the pump and everything else works great. I want to gift this gun to my grandkids but the putty they used is an enigma to me. You are the man with a liberty and in my mind if anyone might know what this putty is, you might be that guy. Any help with identifying this putty would be appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read this long post and for any advice you may offer. Take care bud.
With the heart reply, respectfully, I am assuming that you don’t know what the putty composition or name is either? I really do appreciate that you read the inquiry/comment. I tried ballistic putty/duct seal that I have used as an indoor pellet trap. It did not work. The cool thing is that the Freedom has an externally adjustable hammer spring and I will be making the modifications to my lady very soon which will be a pretty cool addition to adjustable power. Let me know if you need any parts.
Saw your shameless plug, and placed an order. Looking forward to trying out your slugs.
Thank you!
Great video!
I have a newer Taipan Veteran .25 cal shorty,
and after some tests & tunes, it decided that it liked the heavier grains the best!
These rifles are absolutely amazing! I have a love/hate relationship with mine though:
Love the rifle. Hate the caliber. 25 cal is just too much for 10 meter indoor shooting..
Sadly, mine just sits on the table, waiting for me to stop procrastinating,
& put it up for sale so someone else can enjoy it. I'm going back and staying w/ .22s.
DirtyDovi I have to agree bud. I have a Bullboss in .25 and everything else I have is in .22. My backyard is only 37 yards and I feel the .25 is a bit much for it not only for the power but the impact of that heavy pellet really makes some serious noise and draws unwanted attention. Out hunting...great caliber and wind resistance superior to my lighter weight .22 pellets I prefer to use. Yep, mine sets a lot too. I feel your pain.I posted mine for sale. Sticking with the .22 also. For me the .22 is about perfect for what I need. .25 is awesome just not so in my neighborhood.
How much? if your still selling it

Good video. Glade you are selling from your web site now as I don’t have, use or will ever get a pay pal. I’ll be ordering in the next few days
Thank you!
What diameter AVS slugs were used for this taipan mutant test? Thanks
I have been casting up some more 34.5 grain for my latest purchase, it's an Artemis M11MKII, the 34.5 grain NOE's are shooting really good in it.
Hi man love the videos and wanted to ask if you could do more gun stock making videos
Nice Air Rifle Sir! 👍
I just ordered a sample pack of .25cal can't wait
Thank you!
In terms of functionality the Taipan seem more refined with the Cricket being more powerful. The Taipan Veteran (unlike the Mutant) has an anti-double load feature, and I didn't appreciate how useful that feature is in practice till I bought one. The magazine is reliable (no moving parts other than o-ring) and could not be easier to load. There is an indicator along circumference of the magazine. If you load the magazine with that in mind, then you can tell (look or feel) when you are out. I put a moderator on mine to make it as as quiet as possible. It is annoying that you need to buy a 1/2" UNF adapter to fit a moderator. I also didn't care for having to use the supplied pins to adjust the hammer spring, so I replaced mine with a tool less option. I agree that the rear cocking lever is less than ideal, however, I submit that semi-automatic is the superior solution. I also agree with the need for a cheek rest. I bought one of the 3d printed covers that you mentioned and it has been great. As far as I am concerned, these 3 options should be standard on the Taipan to make it even better out of the box. They should indicate max fill pressure on the dial of the pressure gauge. I fixed that with a label with the regulator (120 bar) and fill pressure (250 bar). I haven't had mine for a long but it has been accurate, quiet and reliable.
These comparison videos are so useful. Thanks so much for making & sharing this video. On the first part of the video, I suggest you zoom in a bit more. I really appreciate, how you discussed the result upfront, so you don't have to watch 10 minutes of shooting to figure how the gun did.
I wish I had you sitting next to me while I was making the video. We would have made a great team on explaining the taipan. Thanks for the information.
Very nice
Quick question on your pellets. Do you have any sized for choked barrels? I have both 22 and 25 but non regulated and would like to find something they will shoot.
I have .217 in 22 cal and .254 in 25 cal. I can not say for sure if they will work in your specific barrels.
Great
Curious if both these guns, though more expensive, are a better value than a Kral Puncher Breaker for quality and accuracy.
I just got my slugs hope tomorrow I can go test them
I hope they work well for you. Please keep me posted
@@AirVelocitySport will do
Hey Steven, I just bought a Sig Sauer Virtus 0.22 caliber air-rifle. It is a PCP gun with a regulated pressure of 1200 PSI. My question is this: If I decide to swap out the bottle (tank) that it comes with for one that is regulated at say 1500 PSI, will this damage the internal parts of the gun itself? Secondly, will I see an increase in the FPE or FPS of the pellets with the increased pressure? I guess the question becomes - is there a secondary regulator inside the air gun or only one at the bottle? Thanks, man, I don't know who else to ask. If you have any videos where you are describing this, please share the link.
I am not familiar with that gun but I just checked it out and it looks like it has a ninja bottle with a Belleville washers and piston regulator built in.if it is a ninja bottle with Belleville washer piston built-in you can adjust the shims to increase the output pressure from 1200 to possibly 1500.the problem is that the output pressure low side with a burst disk of 1800 PSI will most likely burst at 1500 regulated set pressure. even though you can set the output regulator pressure to 1500 PSI does not mean that the burst disc will hold. 1800 k output pressure burst cyst usually break at around 1500 or 1,600 PSI. Yes increasing pressure from 1200 to 1500 PSI will result in a bit quicker velocities for any given pellet it's not going to amount to that much more velocitykeep in mind that there may be safety concerns with increasing the pressure beyond what the factory set pressure is set to.I do have a video on how to adjust the ninja bottle regulator that I made about two years ago on my CZcams
Hello just got .25 taipan vet long from talon tunes power plenum.. I’d like to try some of avs slugs u make how do I buy them and what would u recommend
How would these compare with an RTI Priest 2/Prophet? I'm torn between the 3.
what maximum pressure do you give the Cricket?
And what is the maximum pressure you leave on the weapon if you don't use it for a while?
I have the Cricket II Tactical in 5.5mm, in this caliber there is the widest choice of pellets and slugs.
Congrats on your slugs doing So well, Unfortunately I can't buy these in Europe
Great video sir I will get some of you slugs soon look promising.
Wich would you choose sir cricket or taipan looking for a good hunter I know both are good but which one to choose
Thank you! I have a newer video shooting my .254 25 cal slugs very accurate out of the Cricket. 34 grain were the best
What caliber Raptor did you get? Great video 👍
I have the .22 and .25 for now. The .30 barrel kit will be later. Thanks
Where can we shoot? I’m on Long Island too south shore Wantagh
can you share with me about slugs for kalibrgun 0.25? why do you need 0.254'' slugs does not 0.250" slugs? i have seen last videos but i can't hear!
thanks U!
Via testing I have just found that .254 fits best in the Kalibrgun cricket
Hey dude, I have been trying to find the answer to this question: do you think a crosman 2240 with standard 7.5inch barrel can achieve 12foot pounds of muzzle energy on hpa? would it be a struggle? thanks!
Yes. I have done it with co2. In my earlier videos I converted a co2 to hpa and achieved 28 Fpe with a crosman 14.1 pellet. But I do NOT recommend trying to convert new 2240 mainntubes to hpa. VERY DANGEROUS. THE MAIN TUBES ARE NOT BUILT TO HOLD 3000OR MORE PSI. PLEASE DO NOT DO IT. the old main tubes were built with engraves and a high thickness of steel.
@@AirVelocitySport thanks for the info i will stay away from that idea!
We have tested current 2240 and 2260 main tubes and He is 100% right they are safe with pinned valves to 1700psi. We have checked them with ultra sound (at a scuba shop that has tank testing equipment) and they show stress once they have been exposed to 2200psi... You WILL have a failure of the tube if you run 2200psi its just a matter of when and the more pressure you run the sooner that when will be... If you want to use HPA on a stock tube the best way is do a bulk fill and then run a regulated HPA bottle at 1500 to 1700psi (if your going over 1200psi PIN THE VALVE) ... If you want to do it the right way you need laser etched tubes , Baker sells them that is the best way and safest way.
Directly to your question yes 12ftlbs on a 7.5 inch barrel is doable but only on hpa... Getting 12ftlbs from a 7.5 inch barrel on Co2 just ain't gonna happen even with bulk fill in 90 degree F weather, hot rod valve and the works there is just not enough barrel. You will be wasting gas like crazy trying to get even 10ftlbs and that is about the extent of what is possible on Co2 with 7.5 inches of barrel... Move to a 14.5 in and you can do it then on Co2 without bulk fill and likely still get 15 shots a cart... The issue is when moving Co2 to push pellets hot (for co2) is moving so much gas and valve chilling off becomes a issue very quickly if you shoot say more then a shot a minute your going to have valve cool off and that will mean WILDLY varying velocities.
If you want to get 12ftlbs from a 7.5 inch 2240 then go regulated 13ci bottle with a remote line from bottle to bulk fill keeping the bottle in your pocket or on a belt (use Micro bore hose so your not fighting a coil) pin the valve, open transfer port, hammer spring and a power adjuster, run the pressure at about 1300psi that will get you to 12ftlbs easily (1100 to 1200psi will get you what your looking for but go 1300psi reg pressure and use hammer spring to get the power level you want without maxing the hammer spring out) ... On a 3k fill and 1200 to 1300 reg pressure on a 13ci bottle your gonna get A LOT of 12ftlb shots... One more thing that's gonna be LOUD 7.5 inch barrel pushing enough for 12ftlbs it's gonna bark lol...
You are going to likely have accuracy issues with a setup like this as well... We have done the big power 7.5 inch 2240s just as we said to you. We have never had one that would hold any pellet under an inch ten shot 25y groups (shooting scoped) the reason is how huge of a air disturbance the pellet is leaving in due to the volume of air required to get 12 to 13 ftlbs it just kicks the pellets all over the place... We have built a crap ton of 2240s, 2250s, 2260s, 7740s, 7760s for clients. If you want a pistol that lays down the energy and is pellet on pellet at 30y and will shoot really well out to 50 to 60y then here's what to do.
Have a 12 inch barrel cut and squared up on a lathe and a target crown cut.. Get a Alcamey Airwerks Or Baker hot rod valve, transfer port, hammer spring adjuster.. With the 12in barrel it's not reaching the point that it's no longer a usable pistol and needs to be a carbine. Run regged HPA at 1200psi (it's not mandatory at 1200psi but still you should pin the valve) this will give you a setup capable or between 10 and 16ftlbs (that would be around the range of power levels that you would be able to adjust to with just the power adjuster.
At 12ftlbs you won't be moving so much air that it's disturbing the pellet right at muzzle exit because there is enough barrel that pressures are able to fall off due to barrel volume a fair bit before the muzzle. We build guns like this all the time and consistently print 10 shot 50y groups that are 1.5 inch or better and 30y groups that are .5 to .75 inch (remember we are talking about a pistol here) that is amazing accuracy. Another thing is doing it this way will open your pellet choice up hugely as trying to do it with a 7.5in barrel will only allow you to reach those power levels with super heavy pellets (Baracudas, JSB 25.39s maybe 18.13s but that would be as light as you could go and still hold those energies out of a 7.5 inch barrel) so you would be open to reaching the energy levels you want with even 14g pellets no problem and a word of advice JSB 15.89s will likely be your best friend on a build like this (.22 Crosman barrels almost always love them). Take it from a husband and wife that build a couple hundred 22XX customs a year for clients and have literally shot 10s of thousands of pellets over a Chrony on the 22xx platform guns dialing in customer guns. We know what the guns are capable of and what it takes to get the performance the client is looking for. Another thing that's really nice on a gun like this is you can run bulk fill Co2 as well as you will already have the HPA/bulk fill system on the front of the tube. Just run a small Co2 bottle via the remote line. With it setup to make 12ftlbs on 1300psi air you will make about 8 to 9ftlbs on co2. Also going with a 12inch barrel will allow you to run a Mod, say a Donny Tanto and you will literally have move hammer hitting valve noise then shot cycle noise.
These guns are superb as long as they are setup correctly and NOT trying to get more power from a power system that just isn't capable.
We sell valves, hammer springs, custom weighted hammers, and so on and so forth but we machine our own parts... The reason i said use Baker or Alcemey Airwerks is because they use crosman valves they mod and the price is much less then our custom turned valves. Their valves will never be able to flow like ours nor can you ask for custom displacements as you can with ours (our valves are for people that are building extreme crosman based guns... For example pushing .22 38g slugs at 90ftlbs.) We can build you your ideal 22xx and do it for a very good price if you want a turn key gun that's setup to do exactly what you want it to.
I know this is a lomg post and your message was months ago but for you or anyone else that needs help being it setting up a gun to do what you want it to or wanting a turn key gun feel free to inbox me and we can set that up for you.
i seen your video on yong heng parts from aliexpress i am trying to buy but it keeps say they that kind of card can you help how did you do it
Sorry I don't understand what you are asking.
Wow! You own a cricket bullpup? These guns were a very big influence on my Benjamin Marauder bullpup build. Why not more videos with you shooting your cricket?
Hey congratulation.apsolutly amazing review.
I want buy PCP 25 cal.
I want accurate good build no plastic long range very powerful not loud and no heavy weight gun.
Very like Cricket bullup and Cricket Karabine and Taipan Veteran.Im doubt what is better.

Been considering the taipan but not sure about the rear cocking, think I’m steering towards an Agt Vulcan another great Czech company making they’re mark. But the leshiy 2 keeps calling to me to. Decisions, decisions , decisions.
Would get an American air arms Evol if I could but they don’t seem to have made it out of the U.S yet.
Anyone shot/owned any of these guns?
would welcome any opinions!
BOth the AGT Vulcan 3 and the TAipan Veteran are amazing guns. I was out yesterday shooting my .22 Vulcan 3 and the .25 Taipan Veteran (my buddy Marc's gun) at 100 yards. both very accurate with pellets and AVS slugs
Which is the best kinds tapain(ist veteran or royal or mutant)?
IMHO, the veteran is amazing.
I have the kalibrgun Ocelot pistol and love it, the Czechs know a thing or two about air guns.
Kinda have the Russian type over engineered tank build but with a much better sense of style!!!
Did you ever get that Kral jumbo regulated I no u used altoros reg with not so good success but huma makes a reg for that rifle now keep up the good work I'm here in n.j we should go shooting some time

Hey that great! Yes, that would be great can you send me an email at AVSslugs@gmail.com so that we can connect
Hi i need to buy pcp .how to collect. Can help me.
After placing the Taipan magazine in the breech you only have to close the cocking lever. The pin automatically goes in.
I always loved the cricket and Taipan. Both are very accurate and powerful and reliable guns. But I like the EDGUNS a lot also so I went with the 25 Leyla and it is awesome. I never shot slugs out of my leyla how do you think they would work for me.
Slugs work best if you match the slug diameter to the groove diameter of the barrel. If you do not have the specs on edgun Leyla then you can push a .257 slug down the barrel and use an NIST certified micrometer to measure the groove diameter.
@@AirVelocitySport thank you my friend.
@@AirVelocitySport Exactly. However, if choked, measure the choke not the entire barrel groove dia. KnifeMaker
Your all over the place.
Ukrainian Taipan more beter than Cricket.
