Vegeta introducing trunks is one of my favorite character introductions in the series. The acknowledgement, camera panning, and look of determination on trunks face sells it all.

Like everyone is saying, this is SSJ (Super Sayia-Jin, cause everyone asks what the J stands for) Grade 2. Its like Super Sayian 1.2. Grade 4 is just them chilling in Super Sayian because they fully mastered its control, so basically once Goku and Gohan walked out of the room, they are literally just chilling at a point where they are stronger than Vegeta at this moment.

Vegeta doesnt need to learn the Kamehameha because the Gallick Gun is basically the same technique. I dont know if this is only a dub thing or something toriyama said but I am quite sure that there are some infos about the Gallick Gun being basically the same technique as the kamehameha only developed by the saiyans and not by humans.
And even if they were different techniques Vegeta would never let Goku teach him sth
The form Vegeta is using is called Super Vegeta (SSJ Grade 2), there's even a SSJ Grade 3, that Trunks will use later on. But they find out these grades have one big downside: the bulk and musclemass slows them down too much. This is where SSJ Grade 4 comes in. Goku and Gohan master it. It's a fully mastered version of SSJ1. And has no musclemass increase, but stamina increase and strenght increase. Once mastered they will be able to push it to another level: SSJ2. I won't spoil who will become the first SSJ2 though.
Actually grade 2 doesn't have the problem with speed it just cost a lot more energy to use then grade 1

I don’t think it’s called that I’ve never heard it called that once since I first saw in the 90s. Vegeta himself literally called himself super Vegeta. Because that’s what his form is called. If anything the form is called ascended super Saiyan.

Ascended is the stage right before SS2. Vegeta was not a SS2 there.

Those numbers don't scale, of course (SSJ2 is much more than 25% stronger than 1.75) but just in terms of progression.

There are 5 grades of super saiyan aimin. 1st is regular ssj. Which is goku turned into on namek. Then there is Super Vegeta which is the 2nd grade which you see vegeta in, in this entire fight. The 3rd grade of Super Saiyan is Ultra Super Saiyan which Trunks unlocks in the hyperbolic time chamber. Then there is the 4th grade mastered Super Saiyan state which Saiyans can stay in the Super Saiyan form without draining any ki. They treat their Super Saiyan form as a normal state of being where it takes no energy to substain it. Then lastly there is the 5th grade of super saiyan which is the ascended ss2. Ss2 is technically called an ascended Super Saiyan form which takes Super Saiyan to an entirely new level. Super Saiyan 2 literally takes the damage buff from ultra Super Saiyan and has no speed weakness compared to Ultra Super Saiyan.
