  • This week, Singapore witnessed the historic handover of the PM role from Lee Hsien Loong to Lawrence Wong, which happened on a balmy Wednesday evening at the Istana grounds. What was unique, interesting, and strange about this once-in-a-generation swearing-in ceremony? Elsewhere, an advertisement peddling a “Masterclass in Leadership” featuring Tan Chuan-Jin received flak online, to the point the ad was removed. Is the criticism fair? Why should anyone begrudge him making an honest living?

Interesting take on PM's inauguration ceremony! It made for easy listening after a day at work and some parts had me chuckling along.
I wanted to point out a clever word-play Tharman had masterfully inserted into his speech when he affirmed his confidence in LW's leadership but that he's his own person and "will no doubt do so in his own rhythm and beat." I noticed the glimpse of a smile just a nano second before he uttered the words and it all made sense to me. Lawrence Wong, music, leadership - they are all of the same package of the man that he is.
I am sure Terence would appreciate the linguistic humour amidst such a solemn and official event.

Great podcast as always. i think you guys missed out an important insight- which came out in the news recently. Apparently when all the 4G leaders were interviewed- everyone was asked to pick a leader other than themselves. Apparently 17-18 people were interviewed, 15 votes went to LW. So the guy said that no one received more than 2 votes other than LW. I mean this is all great but that means for whatever reason if LW is not there or can't continue as PM, there might be a leadership crisis due to lack of consensus.

@@LonganLee i feel the number might be correct. Everyone voted for LW because he was the underdog (and maybe capable/like-able, relatable). No one probably realized he would end up being the PM. But i couldn't be happier - he is probably the most well spoken among all 4G leaders. Of course it wont be easy to fill in the big shoes of LHL. But he has over 25+ years of training, so we must give LW time.

Hello fellow yah lah butters, I may have an unpopular opinion mush contrary to popular belief it is not right for a politician to vacate office for personal transgressions. Yes in the case of political office holders who are being investigated for graft or who are leaving for personal health reasons. The reason being it is unfair to the voters who are the real victims of the story. They have voted for a candidate in hopes of them helping make their lives better but then have to settle for a covering or surrogate mp to manage their issues. I believe the mp who have been unfaithful should still be allowed to at least serve their constituency away from public limelight till the next elections before respectfully bowing out for their successor. It would be a sign that our society is growing in maturity that these issues happens from time to time. In my humble opinion of course.😊

If a person can easily be led away by lust, there is a risk that he will fall into traps set by female spies from other countries. That will be a threat to Sg. It is no longer a private matter, It is about a person's flaw character which increases the risk of being made use by foreign countries.

On the topic of TCJ, I am of the opinion that he, like most people, deserves a second chance. He, being in his mid 50s, still has a few more decades to go in life and shouldn't be given a "life sentence imprisonment in the realm of eternal cancellation." BUT this move to conduct such a masterclass felt too soon; it wasn't even a year since he resigned! And the topics covered were ultra tone-deaf and ironic, naturally and understandably inviting all the mockery that came after. Perhaps he could take a leaf from NOC's Sylvia who, after a 2-year hiatus, came back to the public eye presenting herself as a life coach. I wouldn't comment further on whether she was truly sorry or had utterly repented or not, but I thought her comeback was pretty well executed (via a podcast series) and therefore created relatively less commotion. The most brilliant thing is that as a life coach now, she can position herself as someone who has gone through a really bad crisis (both career & matrimonial) and managed to slowly walk out of it. TCJ's sharing in the masterclass or any other setting now still feels very premature and empty because he has not yet truly addressed those issues on a personal capacity (as pointed out in the podcast, he just disappeared) or display in some way that he has truly reflected/repented/learnt his lessons. Or maybe he did learn the lessons and is now charging $1,090 (that $90 is probably GST) to whoever is interested in listening to those lessons. Long story short - maybe he needs to consider hiring a publicist to help him redo his redemption story & journey OR just continue to stay low earning a livelihood that doesn't require him to be in the limelight (like many cases before him).
