I don't know much about making computers, but I sure learned a lot when The Verge tried to make one. Tells you a lot about the credibility of these "tech reporters", which, in case you didn't already know, are run by Vox (which should be warning enough already). Their "how-to guide" video was posted September 13th, 2018, and less than a week later, Vox would take down this video, accuse it's critics of toxicity, harassment, and racism, before ultimately issuing illicit copyright takedown notices to CZcamsrs who posted responses addressing it's various errors, poor instruction, and misinformation. The Verge cited "editorial standards" as the reason for retracting the video, but that evidently hasn't stopped them before and it wasn't until an informed audience revealed their entire company to be a sham that they did anything about it.
Please Remember: The Verge is a company of Vox journalists, they are not to be considered in touch with any dimension of reality.
Their accompanying, albeit amended, article is still viewable. Needless to say, it should not be considered trustworthy PC building advice: www.theverge.com/2018/9/13/17...

This is exactly why anything the verge reports can NEVER be taken seriously.
Well, you *can* take 'em seriously - if you only ever go as far as smartphones and your typical Apple cruft. Even their Android coverage is lacking: they're a magazine written for and designed by the "it just works" Todd Howard-esque crowd. If it's not packing Jony Ive aesthetics, they leave it to the real TechTubers out here.
Daniel Sauvé can you teach me how to code :( I ant to learn
Edit sep 22: thank you for the 3 likes I will not put it to waste
Edit sep 22: ty for the 4 likes my thanks will not be undone
Some of it... when it comes to actual product reviews by certain editors with their actual field of work... it can be pretty reliable for a general guideline to some products. I don't know what happened to this PC thing but it was definitely not the norm for something the Verge is capable of when most of the articles I've read from them are pretty well thought out and knowledgeable. Threw me off completely when this came out though for sure. I say this as someone that has actually taken the time and effort to have already been on their site and read beyond a headline or a couple of videos. They generally aren't all bad with the exception of a couple of editors on there that no one can stand and some rogue ones that come and go and are never seen again. Like ANY media outlet. Not to defense of the Verge, but more or less just spending a minute correcting a wild comment that gets easily just thrown out every second about everything without much knowledge or experience in looking into whatever they're generally shitting on. lol
@@pushpopLoC909 "They generally aren't all bad with the exception of a couple of editors on there that no one can stand" how in the world did you discern the inner workings of verge from just reading some articles?
@@ww-pw6di I clearly stated I've been a long time reader/watcher of their videos and articles on their site and on youtube outside the brand new crowd that just heard about them through this infamous video of theirs. I've read more than "some". I've stated SOME of the articles (don't know how that implies I've only watched or read some of their work) were clearly filled with a lot of redundant words and terms to fill in that particular editor's pseudo-savvy article/review. Just like a lot of others are as well. Singling out The Verge as though it had more bad articles than any other (which is by far not true in that space) is an easy claim in the midst of a shitstorm that's already ready to shit on an entire company just because of one video from a company they just heard about today and claiming THEY know the inner workings of The Verge.
The most I know is as much as any actual reader (which isn't most people in these comments to be fair) that reads beyond the headline and a couple of sentences (that's a stretch even lol). I mean, are you surprised rn that that's a thing in 2019 still? People just reading a headline and a comment here and there making the same assumption without any basis? The frontier justice of a small vocal minority making themselves feel good about calling out a singular wrong and making that their entire argument for how an ENTIRE company is a shithole for ONE opinion that isn't even within context? These are rhetorical mostly, but honestly I feel like you genuinely feel attacked if any of this bites even a little bit of a nerve. No one should be unless they're part of that group i'm calling out and it's kind of the majority 🤷🏻♂️
Again, not to the defense of The Verge. i'm talking in general here. Most of these companies aren't all one person with one opinion. This infamous video is a couple of editors and producers that were probably fired from the company or put in another place where they can actually specialize in and do a proper job in. If you put a neuroscience major in a room full of (any) engineers and asked that person to do some specialized math and diagramming, you're gonna be the first person to call them idiots for not knowing what they're talking about? I make my point here. The idiot isn't the neuroscience major... it's the idiot calling him an idiot that doesn't wanna understand or bother with context. Long story short.... don't be an idiot. 🤷🏻♂️
I built the Verge PC.
It died after a few days.

its fucking sad because he could have gotten a way better computer with way better fucking specs as well for the money, its just horrendous in every aspect
@@JMPERager Just talking to gamers thinking they know computers makes me cringe. Now I don't bash on people for not having the knowledge, but atleast admit it and not brag about your newest GPU which released last week, when I know the GPU which released last week was the Radeon RX560 (yes, that has happened)
@@Proccito I was originally one of those people but when i wanted to build my own PC i just did some research.
It's really quite simple even if you just follow the manufacturers' instructions.

This is still the PC Build video of all time, absolute perfection.

@Random Number
There has been alot of CZcams videos that have went and gone. Just like ancient man made structures and objects and mother natures creations.
I'm literally here the 5th time from youtube recommendations.....i just can't help , but click the vid to just remind me of how not to build a pc..😂😂😂

same. yt recommends this to me at least twice a month. Watch it every time. Lost track at 16.
Watched this like 4 times...literally gets better every watch
It cost 2k$ cause they had to buy everything again after he set the whole pc on fire

I’m glad this popped back on my feed after 4 years. It was funny then, and it’s funny now.

"$2000 is a decent chunk of change for a gaming PC."
2019 was a different time.
TBH hat's still a chunk of change. Can't imagine many people have $2,000 to spend.
@@user-in1gv1uh2v it’s definitely a chunk of change, it just buys you way less PC now than it did two years ago…
@@biggsly What would $1,000-$2,000 get me today? Been thinking of building a PC for editing/audio engineering.
@@user-in1gv1uh2v that could get you a good system, just remember you have to keep peripherals [keyboard, mouse, monitor(s)] in mind, so since I’m not sure if you would include that in the budget, I would say not to look into spending the full $2000.
edit: my reply is pretty long, I just realized. In my reply I explained why I picked the components in this list.
As for specs, I would suggest these:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 or i7
For editing, an 8 core processor should fit your needs well. Not sure if you plan on doing gaming since you didn’t mention it, but they can also handle gaming pretty well. Since there are only two brands to choose from, I would recommend the Ryzen 7 3700x or 3800x if you go AMD, and for Intel I would recommend the i7 10700.
CPU Cooler: Since your PC may be using a bit more intensive programs, I would suggest an AIO (all in one) liquid cooler. I don’t know too much about them since I’m getting an air cooler for my PC, but I suggest you do research to find the right one. Some popular brands are NZXT, Corsair, Cooler Master, and Lian Li.
GPU: Again, you didn’t specify if you wanted to do gaming. If you want/need a dedicated GPU, you can go for the GT 1030 since it is cheap and will suit your needs just fine. If you’re a casual gamer, you can go for something a bit higher end like a GTX 1660 Super.
However, if you do NOT plan on doing any gaming and don’t need a dedicated GPU, I would suggest going Intel and using their integrated graphics. You can put the money that would have gone to a GPU to better peripherals, or to something else completely.
Motherboard: If you are going AMD, a B550 or X570 motherboard should be good. For Intel, B560 or Z590.
You do *not* need a motherboard with Wi-Fi. It’s much cheaper to buy a Wi-Fi card or use an Ethernet cable than look for a motherboard with integrated Wi-Fi. Just make sure your motherboard fits in your case, and that all your components are compatible with the motherboard.
RAM: 32GB CL16 3200+ MHz
32GB is plenty for editing and other kinds of multitasking. CL16 is the latency of the ram, and the MHz is the speed of the RAM. You want a lower latency, and a higher speed. (Tip: when you are setting up your PC, make sure you enable XMP in the BIOS. this will give you the full speed of your RAM, because at default it runs at half the speed.) Some popular brands are G-Skill, Corsair, HyperX, and Crucial.
Storage: you can decide how much storage you need, but I would go for a combination of SSD and HDD.
Install your OS on the SSD as well as applications you use frequently, and the HDD is good for long-term storage or things you don’t use often. For the SSD you can buy a 250 or 500 GB M.2 drive (this is installed on your motherboard). As for hard drive, 1-2 TB could work. You use your PC differently from me, so take my suggestion on this with a grain of salt.
PSU: 80+ Gold for energy efficiency, 650-750 watts should be plenty. If you plan on upgrading in the future, you may want to get a higher wattage power supply. PC Part Picker will estimate the wattage of your system, but you’ll want to get a couple hundred watts more just so you have that room.
Some popular brands are EVGA, Corsair, Seasonic, and be quiet!
Case: Depends on what you think looks nice, make sure to pick something up with good airflow, and that can fit all of your components. Some popular brands are Corsair, Cooler Master, be quiet!, and Lian Li.
I suggest doing lots of research before you buy your components, so that everything is perfect for _you._ I’m open to critique from other commenters, who may have more experience in PC building than I. Read reviews and specs, and pcpartpicker.com is your best friend when picking components. If you‘d like advice on peripherals I can totally assist you, I’m just not sure about your setup theme or if you value function/value over aesthetics. I hope this helped!
@@Sunny-ht2pw Oh wow thank you. In response I was thinking of doing gaming, but I was more concerned about Video Production. As for the case I was thinking of getting a custom made PS2 computer case. Is there a way to run Apple on a custom PC?
