I fortunately had a bootable Linux Mint thumb drive to boot from though 😂 I’m brand new to Linux as a lifelong windows user, and every day I use it I realize I have no needs for windows, for now anyways…

I am switching to linux but still in the process of chosing it. I am what my friends call a nerd not as much as arch users. But it's FACT that linux isnt for normal users (yet). These western people forget the huge part of the poor people that cant even afford to finish basic education. Can't even speak english and yet you want them to use linux. 29:00 now, the refresh thing: I agree with what he said about it, and if it's actually there but buried, ok sure there too. But that said the key for it is F5, so my thought was "..is he not using that?" It's the key it's always been in windows. Then I thought, wait, how do I actually know that? I haven't seen it shown anywhere in windows for a long time. I just checked, right click, there's a refresh, but it doesn't even say the hotkey (F5) after it, but F5 does work... I guess if you're not used to windows, you could run into some "just know" things too, I guess (to a significantly, enormously lesser extent, but still.)

I'm only ~17 min in, but I think this is actually really helpful for learning some things that just aren't obvious when trying Linux at first (even after having toyed a little now and then every few years). There's a lot here though that somebody just wouldn't know, and from my perspective that's been one of my biggest issues with Linux as a desktop OS - I don't know these things or how I'm supposed to find them out. The CLI/terminal/console (I don't even know the preferred term) itself is like an embodiment of that. It's just a scary blank screen that presents no options, you have no way of knowing what you can do or not or how to do it. You just have to "just know". Tbh, I'm also trying to learn Japanese, and with kanji, my capacity for learning things you have to "just know" is already feeling full. 漢字 is how that appears if you aren't familiar with it. It's just symbols, which can be rather complex, which you can't sound out and only know how to say by "just knowing" and memorization, but in Japanese (not so much in Chinese) there's actually multiple ways kanji can be read, and you also have to "just know" which is the correct one based on what it's next to or context. To me the CLI is similar, I don't know what commands there are, what exactly they do, how to use them, what arguments/parameters are accepted or how they work, and it's kind of not that dissimilar to learning a language. People fluent can pick up new "words" more easily, sometimes by context next to already known things, but somebody like me has no way of knowing or knowing how to find out what to do there without just being told (and it's still hard with man files and help arguments and reading documentation). Meanwhile, in Windows, I can just look through the menus, find what sounds about right, and tinker with it freely, not feeling so helpless, and learn without being hand-held like a baby (like many Linux world people seem to resort to when trying to help, when it's not somebody being purposefully condescending [although I guess the two aren't mutually exclusive]). Then if I use certain things often, I can note in the UI what the shortcut is and use that from then on. (Weirdly many people from the Linux side seem to think GUI means slowly pointing and clicking with a mouse. That's absurd and strange, and hotkeys/shortcuts are faster than entering terminal commands, unless that command is 1-2 keys with no arguments. Also you can learn them by doing without having to be told or studied. Honestly, while typing this, because I don't trust youtube to not lose my comment, I just saved what I'm writing so far to the desktop, without touching the mouse, quite quickly (in win10, which I just installed yesterday from win7, and don't have fully set up yet). In theory, a GUI application could even be just a way of representing information and interacted with via text commands, so the strange dislike or even hate of it is just honestly bizarre.)

i switched from windows from windows to mx linux kde and i had no problems like linus. in fact i made a thumb drive of the iso than inserted into my trigkey s5 ryzen 7 5800h mini pc. in 5 minutes i had base operating system on , install printer driver and had some trouble installing steam once i did, i didnt uninstall kde i installed most games i did on my old computer asus mini tower. the fact if linus is experienced techie he wouldn't made the mistakes he made in the video , i feel he is faking the mistakes he made. but again i mess around fdisk in the dos days dual booted windows 3.1 and os/2 so. im like really linus. ps the games I installed, run better so. and i choose mx linus out of expediency and was no. 1 on distrowatch. works out of the box
