oh my god i never thought this moment would come
hi dapz
Even god himself is impressed.
We couldn't have dreamt it
you should get the original build and fix it
Hi
That Intel core-i7 hexa-core CPU:
Verge: Yeah, we got one.
Linus: Yeah, we dropped one.
Man that was a hard watch. The second hand embarrassment was too much for me
Underrated comment
Linus drop tips strikes again!
I'm stupid is hexa 8?
@@randomtitanium The Verge probably thinks it's 8 🤣
Hexa is 6 though.
Dude, an insane amount of respect to this man. Coming on and mocking his own glorious mess up with Linus is exactly what being a dude is about.
cringe
yeah only after spending 4+ years doubling down saying he did nothing wrong and calling people who criticized him "racist bigots" lmao. exactly what being a dude is about
After this douchebag played the racism card he lost all respect for me no matter what he does. It's people like him why racism is still a thing because people make it about race instead of about their inexperience or their lack of skill or that they were actually doing something wrong. Some women even play the gender card nowadays too when they get denied for a job or are criticized. It's disgusting.
@@nickhalden374 To be fair, he did likely get a lot of nasty comments regarding his race or giving him death threats. Now that doesn’t excuse his behavior by any means, but if a regular guy gets put in this situation then it’s at least reasonable to expect he started generalizing it with those comments regardless of the intent.
no props to Stefan. He is still blaming everyone else for his mistakes. He took absolutely no responsibility for the many many many things that HE got wrong.
That is actually a really cool move by Linus, to let the man redeem himself and fix the issues in the Verge video
I really appreciated that too. Very cool to see this guy without everyone bashing him. Great content
he never needed to redeem himself. It was the company behind the video. People just flipped their shit over nothing since that's how America is and made him out to be a bad guy when he responded to the haters who were coming after him.
I don't buy it. I don't think he had a clue when he did the video. Best thing he could have done was to say "I had no clue".
"You're not fighting static, you're fighting cancer."
That line still gets a laugh out of me. This guy had quite a few good memes made about him.
Lyle is still gold to this day
Love the sona btw :3
"OMG It's a CPU you're not icing a cake" was another gold one hahaha
"so much censorship, feel like I'm back in China!"
I so read that in Lyle's voice too! 🤣🤣
Props to Stefan, he got back onto camera infront of an audience that has already seen his previous video and were the ones who created the fallout, and he built another computer with none other than the man himself. Linus.
i remember seeing a stream or something where he said something along the lines of "yknow, it doesn't even really matter. a bunch of pc nerds are mad at me for doing my job"
@@kronazmusic5497 While I was mad at that comment back then (I was like 16 tho) I realize he has a point, it really was just a bunch of nerds mad at him for doing what the verge pressured him to do.
@@DsgSleazy that's true
Not to be confused with Linus Torvalds
@@kronazmusic5497 it's understandable from both sides. However, I respected the fact that he got back on camera and made things right. Also, half of the blame goes to the verge writers too, they were on a tight budget and schedule and they comprised quality for getting a video out asap.
I like how Linus is like a wholesome dad teaching his clueless kid. This made me feel good for Stefan and makes me feel people bashed him too much.
Ahem 24:47
People bashed him because he called everyone that criticizes him as trolls or PC elitist.
Yes and yet The Verge themselves gets off easy and is still considered a "tech" channel.
Etienne had plenty of chances in the YEARS since the build video came out to apologize and clear his name. He has NEVER swallowed his pride and offered a sincere apology. He made a bunch of desperate excuses on Twitter 3 years later and still denied responsibility. That's the closest he has ever come. He's an arrogant, dangerous coward.
@@encycl07pedia- It was a situation where he knew he was wrong, but didn’t want to admit it out of embarrassment. Then it became “alr fine I might have done some stuff wrong” but not fully admitting to it. A strong-willed person will always own up to there mistakes, a weak-willed person wont, because their ego is in the way.
I can't stress how happy this made me, like everyone and their mother (including myself) clowned this dude basically to his face and you literally just said "nah yt drama can be wholesome" and single handedly rescued Stefan from years of abuse.
Faith in humanity restored.
"Abuse", Mf blamed everyone but himself." It was the editing team", " its just a bunch of internet nerds getting angry". Very douchy behavior
Exactly my feelings
He did not say “Nah yt drama can be wholesome” he said wow that will bring in a lot of views.
This was awesome! I give Stefan a ton of credit for coming back to this. Loved every second.
Lmao I kept laughing uncontrollably through the whole video
@@ratuldeoun7228 videos been out for 5 minutes so I don’t see how that’s possible
if not for his initial response, i would agree. the guy definitely doesn't deserve to still be harassed for it, though.
@@DemeDemetre because my name is Jonathan.
Here before this blows
Linus was so respectful to Stefan and didn't try at all to try to make him feel like crap over his build from years ago. Good on you, Linus
And Stefan was very open and vulnerable. I respect that. Good video :)
@@Meemzeh yeah if that were me, i would be in a hole somewhere, changed my name and look permanently.... props to Stefan
Linus acted like a decent human being, I guess this is something to be surprised in modern age.
Linus' most adult video yet tbh. Really happy of how he handled the whole video
I give Stefan props man, I don’t know if I would’ve been able to do this
The swiss army knife "hopefully with a screwdriver" thing still cracks me up. Surely more people own regular screwdrivers and knives and/or scissors.
He was nervous but definitely funny
@@LosingTeeth He made a few jokes in between the build, but all the errors caused people to just hate the whole thing. Because then you can't tell what was serious or a joke or a goof
Respect to Linus seeing this as a coaching opportunity, admitting to making similar mistakes in the past, and not doing a reaction to make fun of him when the video came out. This is a very good video to watch and I'm glad to see Stefan here taking this so well. I wish nothing but the best for you Stefan.
Agreed.
There's no redeem for playing the victim card and telling us we were poor and jealous
For Stefan to put himself out there like this again takes a lot and I respect him immensely for it. The fact that he was the one to reach out to LMG makes it even better.
So True Man, I Respect him for having enough balls to come to LTT
If everyone could take criticism like this then this world would be a better place 💓
Umm i think you are forgetting that he called people correcting him "angry nerds" and "toxic gaming community", and having verge lawyers take down the reaction videos, siting copyright laws and racism. If he really was a big man he would have not have harrased people who first corrected him and would have spoken against having the reaction videos taken down. Harassing smaller tech youtubers then coming to LTT years later to kiss his ass seems disingenuous to me.
@@kisong1960 tbh people did leave a bunch of toxic comments on his social media. Unfortunately with twitter good faith criticism gets lost in bigoted and otherwise shitty out by the loud minority of assholes. And now imagine having to deal with blowback alone and being the face of the damn thing when you knew well it was doomed
@@erlandjohansen7195 I get that Vox media did not handle it well for him. Here is the thing though, he is an adult now. He made the decision follow what he was told to do by Verge. It is not an excuse that he was told to do something by his boss and he just blindly followed it. When you are an adult, you have your understanding of what is right and wrong no matter what others may tell you to do.
this is a great example of "he's confused but he's got the spirit"
stefan's redemption arc begins
I hope he has dropped his ego permanently, not just for the cameras.
what the fuk are you talking about do you view life through the lens of anime "cliches" or some shit is that even a saying?

It takes guts to come onto the largest computer media channel on CZcams and admit to the mistakes you had made. Huge props to Stefan. Linus too wasn't afraid to speak his mind and call him out for his mistakes, but Stefan was also understanding and took this criticism constructively.
Not a first 😂😂😂😂
Not gonna lie, when I built my first pc, I forgot one of the motherboard standoffs and cracked the motherboard. Instead of adding the standoff, I just left it. That happened 12 years ago and the computer still actually runs.

@@KINGPHANTOMw85 i don't know i mean most people made fun of the guide not the host in particular (i say most because yes extreme peoples exist i know). also afaik all "reactions" to the guide did not particularly hate on the host. but mostly on mistakes and shit.
@@KINGPHANTOMw85 i trashed him because he didnt own up to it for forever, that said now i know that it wasnt his fault he didnt own up to it, it was the verges fault. so now the verge has earned my eternal ire for throwing stefan under the bus while forcing him to be unable to defend himself until he left the company. if i knew he was being played by his company then i would not have been anywhere near as hard on him. and as far as im concerned he has redeemed himself quite gracefully.

Fully agree with what Linus said as far as production. There should have been checks and balances at all phases of that video... from scripting, to production day, to editing. Mistakes were made well above Stefan for this video to ever come to light, and then the Verge just let him flounder through the negative PR on his own.
Great video you guys.
Yep.
Wassup checkmark
To be fair, his response to the criticism was absolutely awful and did not help his case at all
Would've also been cool if he didn't call everyone raclsts and gamer nerds over his shltty build. So there's that.
Heeeyyy Jeff! The older, slightly on the bottle, homelab Linus! This is the collab I want!
I’ll be honest when I saw the video of Stefan doing the original video I was shaking my head but seeing him come on camera and acknowledge he screwed up made me respect him way more. Props to him.
Idk how blaming everyone else again is " acknowledging his screw up"
there's the supercut version
I honestly thought the original video was intentionally bad for the laughs. Who knew it was serious lmao.

@pvic6959 but then he talk shit about the viewers
Leave it to Linus! I have always respected Linus, but I now hold him in even higher regard. Truly amazing! And for Stefan to collaborate with him shows a ton of humility and maturity. Well Done. There is still hope for good in this world. To the journey.
Same. Linus always seemed like a cool mfer. Buy this just proves he is that dude. Good on him.

23:47 Linus is so on point there. Before building my first system I did quite some research and watched many LTT vids, but watched equally many vids of how it should not be done (and yeah, the verge reaction vids were part of that). In that regard its actually quite awesome that such reaction content did see the light of day. That they removed the original I can fully understand as well.
He finally admitted his mistakes, and that's fine, props to him!
Yea it’s nice the redemption arc!
From duping on P2W Minecraft servers to commenting on Linus videos. You are clearly a person with good taste.
Stop trying to revive your channel by commenting
only took 4 years of trolls harassing his twitter
Durr. He lashed out at and/or blocked anyone who tried to give him constructive criticism or suggested build collabs at the time. No, this is just him wanting to get some sweet, sweet attention.
This couldn’t have been easy for Stefan to do, so I can appreciate that he was willing to go through and accept what was his fault and let go of what wasn’t. Good for Linus for not jumping on the hate wagon, and instead giving him a chance for redemption, while also showing how common (even for Linus) it is to make mistakes in the process.
pretty much the only comment needed
"when we upload something that is clearly problematic we fix it" as long as the fix doesn't cost a couple of hundred bucks
Props for showing up for this! I somehow never saw this! This was incredibly nice of you, LTT to bring Stefan back for a redemption AND Stefan for being brave enough to come on and do it. This is what our community needs. This is a very wholesome video.

Making mistakes isn't a problem. The problem was that The Verge was putting out a GUIDE for others to follow. That video should have never seen the light of day.
So go make a death threat to the verge, not this guy

@@gladitsnotme You're being extremely dishonest ... no one is defending death threats.

Mad props for giving him the opportunity to rectify this. I bet he feels like a 10 kg rock was removed from his back.
And his soul
You made Americans confused
He could have done it by his own if he had a brain in the first place, he could have just admitted that had no idea about computers and run to Linus to help him, but he decided to insult the internet for no reason
He deserved what he got
He called everyone racist for criticizing him.
still wont clean his name lmao
It's not the abysmal Verge video that got people fuming.
It was that the Verge decided to strike the videos made by others
It was that Stefan decided to call all these people that criticised the video as nerds and basically decline any attempts at apologizing
It was that the production was intended to teach expert knowledge about how to build a PC but doubled down on its video
The lack of accountability was the problem
We all make mistakes but you have to own those mistakes which Stefan atleast initially did not do
Overall, he brought it on himself and I'm not talking about any racist sort of comments
This is 100% correct, I also made a post stating that his lack of accountability and not owning his mistakes was his biggest mistake. It wasn't even that the verge pressured him to do this video asap. In his spare time streaming he was on video/audio saying the nerds where just out to get him and he was not at all owning to his mistakes which really was the fuel to the fire.
"I upgraded my computer was from Windows 2000 to XP, and that was done on the floor."

Amazing they managed to update windows without a table or a swiss army knife that hopefully has an ethernet cable
you know what? props to Stefan for having the courage to redeem himself knowing this community was on his back for a couple years about the original video and him doubling down about it after. Remember guys, it's not about the mess-ups, it's about the learning experience.
down, he called everyone who critized him names, claimed them to be racist nerds who are envious of the money he earns and him having a job. The community was on his back cause he was an ass who couldn't own up to his mistake
@@bardbarbarian5313 let's be real here. @@mikeb.1987 Ya, but that doesn't excuse the backlash he got. Even the Bible, a book thousands of years old, gave the "eye for an eye" rule to keep people from retaliating out of proportion to the offense.
On top of that, considering Phil Esposito's hardware made a cameo in the vid and he himself is in the credits as producer, it's likely they told Stefan to double down because he was still salty over community backlash 1 month prior to the video's release. My biggest complaint on the Verge build was the way they handled it with legal threats, DMCA takedowns, copyright strikes, and other legal threats...

Yeah, the Verge doing a bad PC build was a minor part of this whole thing. The way they handled the aftermath is what made it blow up and had people dunking on them hard. They could have leaned into it then with a redemption video.
@@cutmeiris483 love don't exist eedeeot
Not to mention the guy himself calling people mocking the video racist nerds who were just jealous of how good the specs were
Also the reaction of Mr. Etienne who insulted everyone and just ranted without making any sense. The whole situation became a mess afterwards.
Thermal paste was delicious, thanks for the awesome recommendation!
What a refreshing video, Linus and Etienne both have a really great attitude about this. Instead of sidelining someone for making a mistake, he got a chance to own up and learn something new, and do a second take to knock it out of the park.
It really sucks that The Verge really gave him the short end of the stick here and had him fend for himself, and adding insult to injury, they taught him the wrong way to defend himself, which was doing nothing at all. It also highlights how most big brand/company owned channels are more into pumping out quantity over quality with how rushed his video was.
Lol, he has been defending himself in Twitter. Like an a**, screaming that Everyone is stupid and cant build computers 😂
This is designed to fool people like you that either don't know the whole story or forgot what happened. He's the one throwing the verge under the bus (even if they suck too).
He literally accused people of being racist because they criticised him.
He did to himself for not knowing what he was doing fuck I have zero knowledge of pc building watched 6hrs of Linus jayz bitwit videos and guess what built my first pc 2015 still running
His attitude at the start kinda did him in (regardless of if it was right or wrong). But nowadays, I'd say he's quite justified in how he responds to ppl. I mean, it's been _years_ now, keep meme-ing The Verge, but let Stefan be.
I think I can say for nearly everyone that it takes a huge amount of courage to go back on your mistakes especially with so much toxicity and attempt to make things right. Huge respect!
@JosefsensDK
Linus: * gives Stefan a chance since he already had more than enough backlash. *
You, literally in the comments under that exact video: No-no-no! Not until he kneels begging for forgiveness for every bad thing he did. Ever.
If you just watched the video, you'd know that the whole situation wasn't even his fault. Mostly.
Should have asked him about his own toxicity.
He kept telling everyone else they were wrong for years after this.
This video wasn't about owning mistakes, it was about throwing the Verge under the bus. Truly, it was largely their fault. He also just had no idea how to build PCs and spent years on twitter insulting people and being the most toxic person in the whole event. This video was as simple as putting it all on the verge so he can curve some of his deserved hatred.
He didn't tho. He dug himself this hole even more after the video talking shit on his stream and on twitter
Well, Linus is right... I built my first PC after the Verge video released and learned a ton from watching people critique his build. So I do owe this guy a lot, and now he's "fixing" what he got wrong and owning up to him.
So Stefan much respect and thank you. 😊
And now The Verge gets to report about LMG's toxic workplace investigation. Brilliant.
Its actually wholesome. Stefan probably recieved a lot of hate for the previous video. It's just so cool Linus gave him the opportunity to correct his mistakes. Love it

Although Stefan's initial reactions to the controversy were terrible, it's easy to forget that he was just a dude that had become the biggest tech joke out there. Glad to see that ha gave up on playing on the defensive and just played along
He was just a under qualified guy who got thrown in front a camera doing something he wasn’t comfortable doing in front of said camera, and got flustered when he realized the video made him look like an ass. I get his reactions weren’t great, but most people criticizing probably would have done the same.
His initial reaction was normal, I'd defend my knowledge and skills against bigoted trolls making death threats and harassing me with slurs on the daily too. The verge is at fault for this and they threw him under the bus. He couldn't even get a decent budget ffs. I will never, EVER tell someone who is under attack by the gaming gate gang to bend over and take it. Bad advice.
@@gladitsnotme Oh yeah, let's just forget the whole controversy about the reaction video from BitWit that got struck down and the fact that he called everyone racist for pointing out that he basically had no idea what he was doing the whole time.
