Stalking Scottish Sika Deer , Deer management DAY 1

- In this episode I get straight off the ferry from Shetland and get stuck into the hills of Scotland on the hunt for Sika Deer.
With a phone call from @westcapadesUK Jake , asking if I am able to join him in on a deer stalking trip in the north of Scotland, there was no way I could say no. We work with the landowner to help manage the deer population, with all deer heading off into the food chain. Within a few hours of getting off the ferry from SHETLAND we are spying Sika out on the hill, putting in a stealthy stalk to get within rage, ensuring a good shot . I must admit these deer have a sixth sense and definitely make you work hard, but it is incredibly rewarding when it all comes together .
Join me on these next few episodes where we get stuck into both open hill ground and forest plantations on the hunt for red and sika deer . It's going to be hard work in some wild weather, but it proves to be a lot of fun.

We were so lucky to get the use of some pretty incredible thermal imaging equipment from @KAHLES making it so much easier to spot those sneaky sika aswell as serving as a must have for deer recovery out on the hill.

Nicely done. I've been using lead-free ammo for a number of years now and never had any issues (other than the cost). I dunno if it says something that I got an idea of where you were not because of the landscape, but the Tesco.

I'm surprised about you lugging two back . In my experience of roadkill Sika they weigh a lot. I remember finding my first. I thought I'd take home on my motorbike, it being smaller than a Fallow. I hadn't banked on it being much more solid though. Couldn't manage it so retarded home for a carving knife & hacksaw to take what I could home. I hid with it under a bush & dismembered some of it to fill my panniers. Left the rest. It was very nice. I look forward to seeing the next film. Thanks.

@@SoulsUntapped I know it's really tasty. I was more thinking about the weight of those too, or did you have a vehicle not too distant? I guess they would have been a wee bit lighter than the one I had due to gralloching. I'll look forward to the next episode.

I am curious witch lead free ammo you are using and in what caliber.
For myselve I am a reloader and testing now the Barnes TTSX 150 grain full copper in cal. 308 and 30-06
Let us know about your experiences with lead free and how they expand over different distances.

Thanks , the stalk is so good and when you put a lot of effort in and it pays off it’s a pretty good feeling . I’m shooting 243 with Sako 80gr power head blades , I must admit I found them very accurate . I wouldn’t like to shoot more than 250 m with them but they did the job . That run of 200/250 elsewhere other than open land would have made it a nightmare to find, even with thermal. The bullet had barely any expansion, which calibre are you using? 243?

Yeah man couldn’t agree more I hate them running at all but it happens , it’s lungs were a mess so Suprised it went that far . Using 243 , I’m waiting to get my 270 wich is what I would prefer to stalk with here but not cheep at the moment. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@SoulsUntapped I shoot fallow and red with 308, they don't go far at all.
@@richiedd4119sika are much tougher than fallow, yes a fallow buck is bigger in body mass than a sika stag but sika can take a body shot like no other deer ! My theory is the skin of a sika is much tougher! Just a theory,
