At the turn of the new year Chris Rogers, Euston estates’ deer manager, is hoping for a break in the weather. However, the rain has carried on into 2024, as has been in 2023, so it’s a soggy start to the year. Follow Chris on a day's general culling of deer on the estate where, surprise, surprise he finds a few muntjac even though the ground conditions are better suited to pigs. After a successful morning, he heads out onto another wet field to try and find some roe now the kids are fully independent from the does.

And I thought our fields are muddy on the Salisbury Plain. Just something I noticed you take your beasts to your larder before you gralloch. I was taught to do the gralloch as soon as possible, how long can you leave the gralloch before the meat shows signs of spoilage?

What is the better meat, roe or munkjack? I used to have a regular supply of deer, but I never knew what it was.

how do you get into this in the uk without being born into it? im just out rabbiting with my rimfire but would love to deer stalk. getting land for rabbits is hard enough
