  • On to Part 4 of our 3.0 TDI Quattro Audi A5 project car vlog.
    In this vlog we perform our own custom remap on car as well as testing the before and after 0-60mph times on the Racelogic Performance Box to see what difference this makes in the real world, as opposed to the pub bhp figures that can be produced by a dyno.
    We have to say, the V-Box showed 4.9s on the screen, but when we went back to the data, it was actually 6.03s stock and 5.18s with the tune. No idea why the screen shows different to the data!
    We also asked you what daily wheels you want to see on the A5?
    We are looking at sizes 20" x 10" so please make suggestions that are available in that size. Make your suggestions in the comments below.

      No not even close mate. A base model 2004 porsche 911 can do 0-60 in 5 seconds and that's not even close to a supercar. 5 second 0-60 is like 80s supercars at most

    Nice , my brother had the same car with a stage 1 tune and miltek exhaust & downpipe. I’ve got the facelift black edition 2.0 tfsi manual , definitely needs a remap but I should have got automatic probably

    I own a SQ5 TDI. Makes 254 WKW (339 WHP) and 715 nm with just a map. All else standard .
    I would not change it for a petrol 3.0 the torque is just to addictive

    How does it feel performance wise against your old jetta (you took me out in that when it was running the 2260 when you were still working out of the shed) looking at an A5 3.0 for the missus next, wanted to avoid the DSG and get one with the ZF auto but that looks impressive.

    Just wondering what gearbox this is and what type come with the A5?
    Is there any visual differences to look out for as some sellers don’t state the gearbox on ads. Just have pictures to go with.

    i remember when i bought this car not this but another one. And i tried both manual and automatic. Its a HUGE diffrent in speed between the automatic and manual box so ofcourse i bought the manual box insted just a tip.

      Yes they're nice to drive and with a remap pretty quick. Plus they sound great! We went for the DSG but it you are not going crazy the manual are fine too.

    I remapped my A8 which had the 3.0L diesel and the difference was massive, torque mainly went through the roof, bhp was up to 320 from 240.

      @@1dayumay548 Its the turbo that does it, the 4.2 TDI is a great engine, also with the Diesel you keep the economy with the power I was getting over 50mpg on a motorway run. Whats the pound foot of that?
      I've found with my S8 i've got more BHP a shade under 700bhp, more torque at 900nm / 660ft,lbf but its never going to economical! most I can get is 37mpg

      @@riverstour Basically it's the same fuel economy after remapping, or maybe lower a litt bit. I think with a straight pipe and throwing the DPF, it will be better, like 415hp at least or maybe 420

      @@1dayumay548 I reckon that power would give a 4.2 petrol a run for its money, even with it being a heavier car. I had the RS5 and i thought that my 3.0 TDI wasn't far off that then. The 4.2TDI with that power would easily keep up with it if not be faster. The only thing I've found with my TDI A8 was the lag, I'd stick my foot down there'd be a delay then the power was like a thud, where as the RS5 the power was instant no matter what gear or speed

      @@riverstour the lag is the Gearbox and can be tuned away. 300hp is more realistic for a 3.0 on stock turbo.

    OEM wheels tend to look best on Audis IMHO. Maybe some off an A8/S8 to get the bigger size

    I love the looks of these very same stock rims that it has. Only they could be an inch bigger and silver like original.
    I haven't had a chance to drive a S-tronic 3.0 TDI myslef but it seems to be little like the ZF6 tiptronics: It feels as if they hold the car in first gear too long and could shift a few hundred RPM earlier. I love the project by the way.

    To other 3.0tdi owners I just managed to install a provent catch can behind the front fog light. There is a heap of space there. There was no space in the engine bay. This will help with gunk build-up on the intake side. Oil in the intercooler etc.

      Thanks for info, too low for a catch can is sometimes a bad Idea so keep an eye how much it fills without connection to intake pipe as you can sometimes get a runaway situation.

      @@ryanp6138 cheers it is connected back to the factory intake pipe just before the turbo compressor. It is a Mann and Hummel provent 200. I've had one on our Touareg for about 1 yr. They work very well.

      There are no service schedules, but the car has done almost 100k, and its going to be driven hard, so its worth doing.

      We go ours to around 650lbs/ft but it wasn't quite happy at that so safely around 600lbs/ft

      It is the S-Tronic DSG, its all in the Spec List, and blogs etc.

      You need to watch those S tronic boxes, they go wrong pretty often , the old torque converter auto in the earlier cars is the one you want unless you have deep pockets for repairs

    i wanted this car 5 years ago lol. The only dirty diesel that sounds decent with an exhaust. Then I came across a 350z. Was planning to remap to 280-320 bhp

      I've dailyed both, the 350z was definitely better. A little faster stock vs stock, but handles significantly better and has an extra cool factor. Also cheaper to maintain, much cheaper. Not that the a5 is expensive, but it's still an audi. Except during winter, the a5 is faster then, Quatro will do that.
      Loaned the a5 for 6 months while i was saving for my Z.

      Not really. Only thing short distance won't be good for is DPF but thats regardless of tune

    Have you guys ever done anything with an older V6, specifically the 320 cdi (CLK - Mercedes) from 2005. It's currently totally stock, with a healthy 140k miles - but would be interested if you've played before...

    The manual gearbox on my A4 B8.5 Quattro doesn't *quite* make it to 60 before I need to change up... :(
    It's still pretty frickin' sweet on a basic remap though! :)

      0-60 has a lot of variables, so it is impossible to say. What does it do now? And what power is it?

      @@DarksideDevelopments Standard from the factory. Just want to be able to give a few other faster cars a bit of a run, also want to steer clear of emissions issues so will retain DPF/EGR/emissions gear, for now. Cheers

      Most of our projects have over 100k and have little to no engine issues. Providing you find one with reasonable service history you should be ok. You have to expect the usual wear and tear when purchasing a used vehicle.

    The stronic has launch control. Select sports on the gearbox, press the traction control button, then throttle to the floor. Think it revs to just over 2500revs

      @@ryanp6138 hold traction control button for about 19 sec and the go peddle has to go to the floor for LC to work. This is on my car anyway. You may have a different experience. It is a bit finicky.

    I've driven a golf tdi remapped by darkside and the quality of work is very high, and the gains are very impressive, and I have been in the German car tuning scene for over 20 years, and I'm not easily impressed! 😂

      We charge £480inc VAT. I think a manual would be slower than DSG.

    I have a audi a4 2013 model 3.0 tdi Quattro and mine revs to 3000rpm on launch control don't this model have it??

      Yeah my A7 2011 3.0 TDI revs to 3000rpm. You have to have Sport + Wing up manually + Dynamic + Traction Control off. Also has to been fully warm and pedal fully to the floor

      @@jamiemerivavxr I found that you had to do the launch control in a certain sequence otherwise it wouldn't work, I think its only S-tronic gear boxes that you can do it on with Audi's, my Rs5 had it and it was brutal! I now have an S8 and it has a ZF 8 speed, and it doesn't have it, its also something you shouldn't make a habit of doing!

    got a bmw 330xd with 320hp 700nm (only software and dpf off) runs 4,4 on dry conditions with 19". Diesel LOVE!

    Something light weight / not Bolas / not copies of copies.
    Enkeis, Volks Rays, Weds. Something with a bit of purpose rather than scene points as unsprung weight is worth 4x that of sprung weight meaning better 0-60s 😁

      £ for lb this a5 makes huge sense, it's got f10 m5 performance, tdi economy, s5 looks and audi quality comfort and equipment, there is no downside to it at all

      bmw is for retards, to get more hp on bmw u will pay 1000 eur per 1 little horse power, bmw only one bmw is for tuning and it is stock 335 turbo, all other bmw-s are made for rich kuds who will spent more time in garrage instead in car, once again bmw is tax for retards. they dont wanna made quality. if you wanna tune car over 1000hp for cheap money then buy vw! be aware of bmw n47 engines cus they sucks like hell.

      1770Kg without driver and 1/2 tank of fuel. Tyres are what came on the car with the stock 18s at the minute. Cheap stuff! We have to say, the V-Box showed 4.9s on the screen, but when we went back to the data, it was actually 6.03s stock and 5.18s with the tune. No idea why the screen shows different to the data!
