far too expensive asking price with the work that's needing done, no brainer walk away
Using your saying.... "you make your profit when you buy the car". I think you'd need to knock 1k off the price to stay in the safe zone. Looks like quite a bit of work needs doing underneath.
Mate around £1k to £1.5k too dear on this one . I could be wrong but think it's a little high . Good luck boys
I’d sleep on it too, Rob. The difficulty I have is with the asking price for the vehicle.
I’m a BMW man. And I would say that you won’t make much out of that. Beautiful cars but expensive and people expect concourse condition for scrap money.
Would make great content though.
Leave it well alone Rob BMW senior tech 30 years
I take it would be a money put Nigel? Are they worth touching these M3s or leave well alone?
Don’t miss the salvage videos yet to be honest, loving the classics you’ve got going through!
It doesn’t sound that profitable but if anyone can do it, you two can! 💪
I love the E36 BMWs! I had a 328i and it was fantastic to drive but was ropey to look as but it was a very cheap car for how mechanically sorted it was so I drove it around and loved every minute of it. If you can then you should buy this M3 no doubt but it does need a fair bit of work to bring it back how it should be.
I’ll be glued to this project 😄
I would walk away rob there’s too much to be done and the dampness in the boot you don’t know what damage it has done to the floor keep up the great work and thanks for the awesome content stay safe and take care
9k : you'll make that on adverts 😂🤣😂
Good show as always .
Had many a e36 in my youth, never an m3. This will be a brill series, 🤞🏻 you buy it 😍
Now you are talking my language, amazing car and colour choice. Brings back soooo many messages. Wish I could justify having a weekend car.
I love your videos I know nothing about repairing cars but it’s so interesting to see you do your stuff
Notification received - straight to the video 😁😁👍
Missed there being a Monday upload so was re watching your old videos 😁
Rob,i remember this place from the last time you were there, thanks for doing another walk round 😊👍
Yes Rob the content variety on this channel just keeps getting better and better mate.
Thank you
I’ve got a Monimoto, a little bit more money but a cracking unit!
Always pays to check where the diff mounts to the body underneath as they tend to split there.
Wheeler Dealers (I know!) did one years ago. Edd had to strip the seats (motorised/heated?) to make a quality pair. I think their gearbox needed swapping too. You missed tyres from your costing. PH forum will tell you about boot drain fixes. Track days beckon, coupe more favoured for that?
It may be me but I would say just be careful with this one, could end up being expensive.
Especially the dampness in the boot!
Agreed I flogged my S reg Evo for 4k, you need the proper parts on these no pattern bits and it gets very expensive. I even chucked the hardtop in! The guys who bought it used the engine and rear axel with a straight cut box in a time trial E36 so that makes me happy to know she lives on!
Selling price needs to be around the 5k mark
I say walk, the coupes are more sought after than the convertibles, at the price you’re being offered it plus your breakdown of works required and materials you’re already getting up towards the 10k mark.
Without the surprises you’ll find along the way as you delve deeper into the project.
Best of luck whatever you decide guys- keep up the good work 👍
Best m3 made imho. Had 3 of them in the past. I can't believe they haven't shot up in money yet, it will happen. Sold my last one a few years ago. Gutted I sold. Definitely buy one lads
Nearly spat my tea out when you said 7.5k
Hahahah brilliant
Loll ikr
Way to much for this example
I so wanted one of these as a teenager, funny how dated they look now... love your channel lads, keep up the good work.
What a beautiful car - be careful with the repair costs though :)
Cold start was lovely!😎
Rob you've answered your own question by not buying it when you went to see it. Your head is telling you to walk away and your heart is saying buy it!
Keep up the good work 👍
Rob, I was always taught that you sometimes need to loose the battle to win the war!
I know supply is a bit dry at the moment but I’d hold my nerve and invest else where.
Classic BMW enthusiasts can be as exacting as their cars
Used to own one of these. Loved it.
Mine had the vadar seats in it adds value and look much nicer. Looks like the comfort seats in that.
It’s a nice looking motor and I’d love to see it turned around. That said, I’m no motor mechanic. You’ll make the right decision either way. Loving the channel and content. Cheers 👍🏽
Nice looking classic, a must have
Personally i would avoid that and put the money in 3 door cossie instead
problem is its all about buying and making money and to make money you have to spend money if he puts it into the cossie then he is not making money lol its 50 50 you have your profits and the money you use to buy stuff to sell im sure he as is own funds for the cossie set aside but in the mean time he needs to buy cars to sell on to make more money
@@AdamSNook. yeah fair enough never looked at it that way
Yes a Cosworth you can’t go wrong and their so in demand. You’ll sell one whatever conditions their in.
It does need a fair bit doing to it but it's still a great car ,with the contacts you have and you
And chris,s know how,I'm sure you can get that car proper sorted !👍😀
I wouldn't waste you're time on it . Being honest. It's expensive to fix experience to run . The E36 m3 coupe are becoming rare and collectable . Not a soft top
Its just a matter of time before the soft tops become rare and to me this one is in nice shape to be 23 years old.
Yes coupes are where the money is cabriolets just never have been desirable just look at e46 soft top and hard top price differences.
I’m a mega E36 fan so can’t wait to watch this and hopefully see it get put back to beaut!
Massive bmw fan love to see it done you know what your doing
ive genuine just bought a BMW Series 3 so having that BMW spares shop in my contacts is pretty handy!
The consistency of people saying don’t buy it is amazing! But no worries Rob, this was a great video and shows the work you have to put in sometimes before making a decision. It is interesting content even if you don’t buy it.
Back in the day this was the ultimate PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) cruiser in SoCal!
Lovely car Rob, the numbers are very tight on this one unless you have someone on it plus we haven't got that much summer left this year and convertibles take a bit of a nosedive for the colder months so definitely sleep on it unless you can flip it as is for some wages👍
Great video, i purchased a 96 evo, estoril cab in 2010 for 5k. I still have the car, love it. Thanks for sharing.
You and Chris could turn that around in a few weeks and i would love to see that roof done
Another beautiful car 😍, Looking forward to seeing this on the channel, Great vid as usual Rob 👌My mates got a 2004 330d with 180k miles and it’s still going strong
Looks like an M3 Evo. I had the front bumper from one of these on my E36 318ti Compact back in 2004. I was only 18!
WONDERFUL CAR !!
I always wanted an M3, but the running costs were too much, so I had to settle for a 328is coupe in boston green, with the M50 manifold conversion, simota carbon fibre induction kit, remap.
This is a stunner mate, love it.
Unlike some, I don't think it's over priced either. About 5 years ago, really mint ones were fetching 7 to 8 grand, but now they are 12 to 15 for a minter.
Love the vids dude keep up the good work
Great content, as usual. Thanks
7.5k seems abit much 5k/6k maybe as it WILL get expensive...but should be good content..👍👍👍
Same, thats a 4-6k car. Been stood too long. That is a huge bill waiting to happen
@@stewills9711 how are people finding e36 m3s for that amount of cash? Lol
@@y0Special ....exactly. They're £10,000 minimum these days
@@Sum_Ting_Wong yeah for a shit box haha
Rob your cars are always top notch, I'm sure you'll get near the top estimate price once you have done your magic on it. So it will turn out a decent profit you I'm sure. Keep up the great work.
I like it these and are gaining value pretty fast too with this being pretty original still its a good candidate for a light restoration
I do like these cars Rob, you know what you're doing anyways. Do what you feels the best thing to do
There’s a salvage / MOT failure page on Facebook which has a few little steals & classics on it now and again, definitely worth a look
Whilst it is a lovely motor Rob, I've got to be honest and agree with others that the asking price is a touch too high, given the work to get it into tiptop condition. I can't see this making you enough profit to be worth the effort, however it would make for great video content. You and Chris know what to do and I'm sure you'll make the right decision one way or another. Cheers Mike
Give this one a Miss Rob , Wait for something else to come up, Market isn't that strong for them and with all the work needed
Rob, owned three of these. Currently own an Imola individual one of 50 made (see my channel for a video)
Drive the Evo and make sure it picks up at 2500 rpm and 5500rpm. If it doesn't the vanos is shot.
Oil leak on the back of the engine is usually a cheap fix and common.
Seats are from a sport E36. So any of them in a coupe or convertible should work.
Look for rust under the side skirts and around the jacking mounts.
Loft the boot rubber near the boot latch and look for rust.
Let it warm right up and check it goes in gear ok. These are known to drag on the clutch. If yours is doing this change the clutch hose for a braided type.
The hood will release from a cable under the rear seat. This disengaged the motors, once pulled, you need to go in the boot and push the motors back into slot.
The brake discs are not cheap, they have vented discs and around £150 a corner for genuine parts.
That's also, too much money IMO. Convertibles are the hardest to sell as everyone wants a coupe. In really nice condition with no faults, full history would be tops £10,000 absolute tops. Great cars
Rob, I worked for a B.M.W main dealer for some years, brings back memories. You know a B.M.W breaker, they would be a big help. Needs saving.
Give it a miss 😅
My thoughts Rob are keep looking. It does look ropey underneath and when you clean that off who knows how bad the rust could be.....and the weather at the moment and time of year by the time it's finished are not going to be favourable for a top money sale.. Good luck whatever you decide.
Cheers, Bob
This was nothing but great content on showing us WHAT NOT TO BUY!!
Id avoid that one . 👍
Loving the bmw, about time too, lol . I'd love to see you guys do this as long as the number add up.
Great car & beautiful colour. I had a steel blue 328i Coupe M Sport & it is easily the best car I’ve ever owned. I think you’d get a lot of people wanting to see it on your channel & I recon you’d make a killing once you go to sell it, especially in Estrol Blue ❤️❤️
Aww lovely Staffy, sure do miss my Staffy, you ever get a guard dog at Chris place get one of them they are so loyal and loving.
I think it's the seat back panel that's been replaced, and check the double Vanos, that was a weak point. Best colour, Estoril Blue and the original wheels. They were an option on E36 Coupe & Saloon. Epic cars, still quick now & the first true 100 bhp per litre engine for a n/a road car. I recon it's worth every penny as everything else has been messed about with and ruined. Good luck
I had a silver one same year fantastic car but mine rusted around rear crossmember but what a drive 👍
This is a beautiful looking car, I do very much like the colour, it’s a gorgeous shade of blue.
Estoril blue definitely one of the best colours to sell. I would offer no more than 5.5 k and just walk away. He who dares Rodders!!!!!
Risky to buy, a can of worms, but great content Rob !!!!!
7.5k in that condition seems a bit steep. I would have thought 5k to 6k with cost about 2k max retail 10k to 11k. I still prefer E30 shape
That’s a really good example for its age. Needs some work and money spending on it though. Worth it at the right price.
I had one of these was a brilliant car
Hi Rob I'm not a car expert by any means .... but a very good friend of mine once told me always go with your gut feeling .. my gut feeling whaching the video is .... give it a miss mate ... love the videos ..thank you so much
Regards mark
I'm on the fence with this one guys 👌
I'm late to the party everybody's saying leave it, I'd agree looking at the video of underneath. My bet is there are quite a few lines including that fuel line need replacing or soon will. There's probably going to be some rubber bushings/shocks and brake components getting old that are past it or will need changing very soon after a new owner puts it on the road to. Thanks for the video, Take care guys.
Went to that BMW breakers a few years ago for some M Tech rear springs. When I went to collect them I literally couldn`t believe my eyes.............Wouldn`t surprise me if BMW themselves buy parts from them.... they`ve got everything ! 😅 😅 😅
I’d not touch that with a 10ft barge pole
Yeah for 7.5 not a chance
love these M3's
I wish you were around back in 2009 when i wrecked my 1995 M3 as i literally smashed it sideways into a lamp post thats what happens when a 19 year old buys an M3 lol , the car i reckon was salvageable so whoever at the scrap yard saw it must have saved it , i hope.
Soon as you said 7.5k I thought that’s gonna be a struggle... so yeah touch and go. Good luck if you decide to go ahead though
Head before heart Rob, 👍👍
Yes lads, been waiting since yesterday for that notification to pop. Nice car but imo i would leave it.
Stunning machine
Seem to remember the rear sub frames were a bit suspect in the convertibles worth having a closer check, think they tried to rip themselves out the floor.
Wasn’t that later ones E46, or were these the same?
That's the e46 with the subframe issue not the e36.
80/20 split. Would you make enough? . You are a business after all. It’s a tough call bud. And convertibles sell well in good weather, would need a quick turnaround on it .... winters coming.... don’t want to be stuck with it.
But with your experience, you’ll do the right thing.
Loving the channel guys. Top job 👍👍
Well done spotting that seat, I would’ve missed that I think.
I think that seat will be the last of his worries.
Hi guys hope both safe and sound nice two see a German car great motor and good luck
I often 7 grand think then would make better deal for you and Chris we love to see nice car like that back on road nice 4 someone this summer thank you both for doing these videos
its up to you on this one i dont no what to say rob
Nicest colour I’ve ever seen on any BMW.
Lovely motor and in an ideal world it would be great to save it but from a business point of view I think there’s not enough prospects of a good enough profit in it for you both given the work that will require completing first. But.... you two are masters of the game so whatever way you go, I’m sure it’ll be the right decision 💎💎
My son has a thing for E36’s. He’s had two cars that combined make up this car being a 325 convertible & and an M3 EVO. Both P plate. Both looked nice superficially & like this one apparently only needing minor bits & pieces. But the reality is that he could never get on top of the stuff either of them needed doing & keep them on the road. The roof on the convertible has so many micro switches, motors & servos, that’s without sorting the leaks. You’ll never fix everything that needs sorting to the standard you like to achieve & make money.
Ha, remember when brewer got a 6 speed M3 gearbox for "500" quid on WD!? Sounds like a lot of work needed which wont be cheap on this. Crack on, Rob!
Rob, I would love to see It on the channel, but you need to way up the cost and any possible hidden problems. It is a tough call mate.
Love the channel keep up the great content. 👍
How rob and Chris another brilliant video and hope you are staying safe and well
this is one of those cars where head must rule the heart .
Back in the day these cars was the cars to have and looking at it it brought back so much memories of 90s first car etc but as it is to make money Rob I would walk away unless you can get it cheaper it could become a money pit if is one of them cars to keep forever then it is fine although a bit cheaper as you can spend time on it without a massive cost which you may be chasing to get a profit
I always feel things change when the mileage passes the 100K mark - even German
I love all the videos, always have and I've been hooked since day one! But I wish you would finish what you started.
Awesome car!! Smashing it Rob
If anyone could turn it around you two could. But I nearly choked on my tea when you said the asking price. I’m no car expert but it seems like a lot of work and a very slim margin for profit. Give it a swerve.
Hi Rob.Car would make some decent content.....But I'm with the majority. It's a walk away vehicle.
(unless the owner knock off another 2K) Keep Healthy to the both of you.
Believe BMW still do that colour it's that popular. Very collectable now. Sure Chris n you can work your magic as long as there is £ in it.
Mate. I don't know if you been stalking me but you seem to buy/find all the motors I would buy if I had the cash. Soft top BMW M3 has to be bought. Proper iconic M3. Love it
