"A little bit of a issue on my mx5"
Understatement of the century.
+Car Throttle do you want german schnitzel.
Gruß
+Altmetaldoktor ich nehm 2 :D
+Car Throttle love me Bro
+Car Throttle Rust = More like weight reduction LOL
I bought an m3 in 2008. fucking thing died on my way home from the place I bought it. the main things were: vanos leaking oil, as well as the whole engine, air filter had probably never been changed, holes in the exhaust system, the carbon fiber air intake was broken and leaked, the car had also been crashed at some point. I payed about 5-6000 pounds roughly calculated. sold it for about 2000 6 months later. drove about 900 kms one way to buy that car, and I was in the middle of a cancer treatment. too bad the guy who sold it totally fucked me. so don't feel too bad about yours! I drive an impreza today and am fully recovered from both the m3 and the cancer.
Fucking awesome turn out props to you homie
thank you!
Really sorry to see that it went so poorly for you man! I think you just happened to get a terrible "base" car. No matter what, if you are buying a 13+ year old car it's going to need a few things changed. My total cost for my 2003 BMW 325i? Less than $5,000 and it runs stellar (bought for $2,500; $2,500 in parts). Furthermore, in essence it is mechanically brand new. In the end it is a great value, but ONLY if you can work on it yourself.
Pro tip, if you want an affordable M5, get an impreza.
I'm happy that you lost
(your cancer and shitty bmw. enjoy your subaru, m8.)
rust? weight reduction!
MasterofPlay7 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Rust is heavier then metal
@@paddykelly3095 than* iron* because rust is oxidized iron and its not solid iron but an alloy, thats why it doesnt rust instantly
It's a bmw, so it falls apart as it age. So yes.... more weight reductions :)
pray for a snowy winter,I want a faster car in the spring
This is a 20 year old normally used car.
Yes the previous MOT was performed by Stevie Wonder.
But its not bad for its age.
If you can't handle corrosion, worn out suspension components and stuff battered then you are buying the wrong era car for the wrong money.
I'm sure there are some quite nice ones about for £25,000.
Looooooool @ Stevie Wonder
😅😂🤣😭
Stevie Wonder doing MOT, and I thought Mr. Krabs doing one was insane
Even nicer ones for 35K !😃
@jermaineotoole3668 £35k would get you a really nice low mileage car. But trying to find a good car in a rare colour is like finding hen's teeth in rocking horse poo.
That's hardly a lemon mate, could've been a lot worse...
+ChrissV Thats what im saying. Here in the Us people would die for a m3 in that condition especially the REAL euro m3. Europes 328 is america's m3
+0hjaa
Because it's sour, as it would feel if you bought a car that turned out to be a hunk of junk.
+ChrissV Reminds me of Hammond's E36 in the show, which was way worse :D
+ChrissV Well, could it really? It basically had everything wrong with it, it had hidden rust, changed parts, and he payed 2-3k more for it than he really should have. I would say that is about as bad as it gets. Well, if it would have exploded, that may have been worse. But still, not the best of deals. But on the other side, more videos of him/them fixing it for us! Win win
Well, true. It could have also been a 328
Rust? More like weight reduction, bro.
haha
natural weight reduction
Well technically u add weight, but ya,, when its gone, weight reduction bro
Tastes good as well
+Josh Kauf Ive probably swept up over 30lbs of rust after working on my f250
For a car of that age and mileage it's quite good I believe!
you prolly dont give a shit but does anybody know a way to log back into an instagram account..?
I was dumb forgot my account password. I would love any tips you can offer me!
@Kingston Arlo Instablaster ;)
@@kingstonarlo7110 you had me in the first half ngl
“If it’s a bit floppy, a bit of furniture polish and give it a yank”
Hmmm
4wd some 😂😂😂
Why did you not just pay this guy to check out the car like you did now before buying it?
Had the same idea.
+boy638 I think he said in the video that the car had "passed" a similar inspection before in "December." So either it was not a good mechanic checking it out or something fishy was happening.
Exactly :/
Then we wouldn't have a video...
Owen Rayner Well we would have a video of him driving and enjoying it if it was not for the condition of the car lol
Alex really doesn't know how to buy secondhand cars
+FootGlove wouldnt you get the inspection done before buying the car?
+Gxd Culture you should really know that you can buy a BMW E36 M3 better condition for £6000, he picked a car without a handbrake and this can indicate more problems. If you pick secondhand cars, make sure you check for any major problems. If there is any, walk away. You need to have basic knowledge of secondhand car problems factoring in labour costs if you need any repairs :D
+FootGlove can u explain me what is the most important to check on buying 2nd hand cars..i really appreciate if you tell me one or 2 stuff thank you.
+Khairul Izwan Rust and engine is healty.. everyting else is cheap to fix
+Khairul Izwan just make sure nothing is wrong with the engine, walk away from ANY car with an engine management light. If you're oil is going down or a lot of white smoke is coming out of the exhaust, most likely the head gasket is gone and labour for a head gasket replacement is around £200-400. If you are unsure, ask a garage person and he'll let you know the labour costs of what repairs needs doing
thats only around 10k (including repairs) for a fully functioning e36 m3 without rust, thats not bad at all
Remember this video was 5yrs ago. Prices for them have risen
@@sv_cheats1970 significantly
For a euro-spec too. In Canada we'd pay at least 20k for a fully sorted, underpowered North American spec E36 M3...Euro-spec would probably go for 45-50k rust free.
a BMW with 5 previous owners? that's the definition of lemon right there!
Why?
BMWs are usually abused by their owners, especially those who don't intend to keep them for too long.
Ask anyone that has bought used BMWs before.
Well, I always thought that a M3 was a special kind of car worth keeping, but maybe that's just me.
I've had plenty of cars as well, and the ones I really enjoy I tend to keep them. I now have for "investment purposes" (that's what I say to my wife anyways) a 12yo Lexus, a 20yo Nissan, a +30yo Toyota and a Porsche of the same era, and a 45yo MG. I have had most of them for over 10 years. The last one I got was the Porsche a few years ago and it had only one owner and it was in mint condition. No BMWs though. =D I already had my share of lemons. But I would love to have a BMW 850, a Z3 Mcoupe and a Z8. Maybe one day, who knows?
A Sportcross. Love it. Still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it.
Yeah, I share your pains. Taxes, insurances and out of the ordinary maintenance are a pain in the ass.
But changing cars regularly still hurts too. If you buy used you get the good side of devaluation, but if you repair and do proper maintenance on a car for a while you will almost surely lose money if you sell it (there are exceptions, obviously). And then when you buy another you just don't know if it's a good buy or not until a few months later.
Well it's 20 years old. I don't know anyone who keeps their vehicles for 20 years.
Collin and Phil... Phill Collins, oh my god I just realized that!
I can feel it coming in the air tonight
+Dylan Hanlon I can feel his intelligence slowly coming back in the air tonight
I just realised that in this episode as well :D
well, its phils collin
And the new mx5 is called junior, so it's basicslly Phil Collin(s) Jr
indicators working? - not a real bmw ^^
+Carl_Laberfeld nah- you just give bmw drivers too much credit ;)
+Carl_Laberfeld Of course they are working, no one ever use them.
If the indicator stalk had no wear on it at all and looks like it came straight from factory on a 130k mile car then it's a real BMW..
+Carl_Laberfeld Nah you just gotta unplug them.
Oh the memories...when turn signals were the vain of my existences. Damn BMW must have engineered the worst lightbulb holder mechanisms ever!
"Ach du scheiße"
You pronounced it so well. :D
I'm very happy that I found your channel last week! Your content is marvelous.

Dudes, this video came up in my recommendations, and it says right below it "5 years ago". It is as if it was yesterday, good vibes.
You consider that a Lemon? Michigan standards say that the car is near-mint :P
Agreed lol
haha yeah!
True

What a super video, and what a great bloke the chap at Munich Legends seems. Toll!
3500 pounds for fixing all that? Not too bad if you ask me.

School boy error!
Who does that
You know the saying “Fools rush in” lol
I bought one without checking anything and its been good 2 me
Kind of late, but wish u knew how people buy cars in uk... Both times my parents were selling their cars, the buyer checked out the outside of the car in 2 mins, inside for 2 mins, asked for short test drive around car park and said he is buying it, everytime my parents buy a car, they spend like 30-50 mins checking every single thing, the sellers look at them like they looking at weirdos
Awesome video!!!!! This shows why you do a pre-purchase inpsection. Hard to haggle when you dont have a list of faults. Thanks for making this

+kriss634 Ethan actually did that in the edit to stop people getting butthurt. I've learnt never to use them because I'm a better person than everyone.
+Alex Kersten truth is that as BMW drivers we always indicate without fail! It's just that our indicators produce a light that poor people can't see!

+JorgeSMAD along the lines of "Holy shit"
Ach du schande, wenn ich bitten darf :D
+LonelyGuitarString Luis or something along the line "Oh Crap"
+LonelyGuitarString Luis No that would be "heilige Scheisse".
Ach du Scheiße basically means oh shit.
You have to realize that this was a performance car, it wasn't driven softly and it had good and bad owners. Some people have no clue what so ever i've realized that over the years of buying used cars and bikes but the best thing is to invest a bit more money for a car that was well looked after.
You will rarely find a guy selling his vehicle that he invested a lot of money into it, especially for a good price as these things are expensive to maintain..
But nothing of this car is serious, everything can be fixed, it would be alarming if the engine or transmission were worn shit...
What's more 6900 pounds doesn't sound much for an M3...
Sometimes investing in a better condition higher priced, lower mileage one is a good idea.
+glazuna update: seeing the end of the video it really came costly to you but that's mainly because you let professionals took the job. If you would do it yourself with aftermarket parts, it could be up to 3x cheaper.
+glazuna Yeah but if they have the money why not? But then again since they had the money to fix it up why would they be bitching about it?
+glazuna So that's almost $10,000 usd for an M3 with 150,000 miles. That is pretty absurd by any logical persons standards. ''Well the outside looks good.'' Any young guy who buys a high mile BMW suffers from a classic case of ''I like fast cars but know nothing about them and will live with my mom until I'm 28 years old.''
id rather buy a new honda or nissan than this stinky old m3. Kids think they cool with their old m3s, it will backfire on you, there is reason why this cars costs so much new, they are not meant to be driven by stupid kids
+Latin Lover A lot of kids that buy Hondas and Nissans think they are cool too, a pretty moot point.
that mechanic looks like a really cool and nice person! thanks for the vid mate
No you didn't screw up... You bought a Beemer that needs you. Give it what it needs. If that's not for you, well, a Kia comes with a good warranty doesn't it...
Well fvcking said!!
Ok now I feel slightly better about my e36. I'm 7k into mine and it's getting a little depressing.
@@herbienbrian2 eh; sums it up. If your going buy any type of older "classic"; its going be a money pit; your doing pretty good if its worth half of what you invested into it.
More of pure passion of bringing a classic back to life.
@@Aerogrow I made it go pretty sideways tonight with some water coming onto the BLVD and I suddenly remember why I spent so much lol.

+BB-8 English? English is language, not country
Good honest video
thanks for the advice about the seat belt! it really worked!
My question is this. Why didnt you get this test done on the car before you bought it. In canada where I live the owners that are selling their cars on craigslist or wherever are completely fine with you meeting up at a shop and getting a full inspection done (at the buyers expense)... Seems like you kinda screwed yourself over, and you could have avoided spending over 10k pounds on a +16 year old car.
+Dobson Ironmonger That's exactly what I was wondering. Get the inspection done before you buy. Nice video, though. Well done.
+Gregory Wills yeah it was a great video, but it seems like a guy with this amount of knowledge on cars should be able to know that he should get it inspected before he buys
+Dobson Ironmonger
He said the car passed tests on December with minimal issues.
+ODETHIOUS true good point i forgot about that lol
+Dobson Ironmonger
ey, no problem.
After he used the mirror I started having dental flashbacks.
lol u used your indicators
0:20
And the problem is?
yeah not a proper m3 driver move right there. He doesn't use the stuff that he teaches his students in the lectures of how to become a proper BMW driver! Very disappointing... Not to mention he didn't bring his Bluetooth headset, his reflective sunglasses and his naturally colored tie!
So much for being a BMW driving instructor. He failed to follow his very own teaching!.BMW driver are not supposed use their indicator Alex.
Not really a lemon at all... For a 20 year old, 5 owner performance car it's pretty good. The rust is really the worst part... All of the other things are common E36 wear and tear that's been neglected by previous owners. I totally agree you over paid but it's it pretty good shape overall.

Sensible, well-made vid. Thanks.
10:40 It's feckin' cold but look at my guns.
11:44 Just in case you missed my guns.
If you own a 10 year old+ BMW, it leaks oil. Just one of those facts of life. Generally, unless you're capable of doing all the work, it's not worth fixing. Starts with valve cover, then oil pan gasket, oil filter housing, and finally, timing cover. Unless you ave the time, tools and expertise to replace the timing cover gasket, don't fix any of the others unless it's major.
E30 hanging at 2:25 and 2002 turbo down below so cool!
Hey bud, love tbe vids, how much was this inspection?

kdr0003 lol
+JohnDark93 Pre-purchase inspections are usually under $100, which is nearly nothing compared to the issues they can turn up.. Most shops charge a fairly low rate for them because they're hoping you'll have them perform the repairs they deem necessary. Short of the VANOS test, anyone with 2 eyes and a lift could have inspected that car and told him not to buy it.
+Maxwelhse and after a lot of inspections you still dont have a car because its an old car. The most expensive repair is the vanos and als the mechanic explained almost Every BMW has problems with it and you can drive it without problems. he could also just buy An m3 at this garage and be sure there are no problems, but looking at the website and prices i'm guessing that you cant buy a similar car there for the same ammount.
Will there be a Project M3 series?
love watching your videos. It kind of inspires me to want to become a CZcamsr. During my sophomore year of high school I was in video production and making videos was the most fun I had in a long time. All id need to continue is a mac or a decent video editor program for windows.
A car that old is going to have some rust somewhere - no biggie!
... But, you summed it up pretty well - it's a piece of Scheitzer!
"I know the rears aren't working" he said. too bad it's a two door. :D
4 years later after me watching this when it first came out with no driving licences being 16.
I now own a E36 328i 🤣
AYYYYYYY and its got rust but. Fixing it dw :)
honestly most of those issues are pretty damn common on older performance cars,. not to mention you cant expect everyone to take perfect care of it. this is why you always make the seller give you an up to date inspection. shop smart
Can we get an update on this car?
Sold
I'm buying an E46 M3 soon and this is giving me anxiety lol.
KvnS S how was it?
And?

It should
The way you pronounce German is pretty spot on! I challenge you to do a whole video in German.
Did you ever fix the fan relay? Wasn't working when you went against Honda track lap times?
I'm in love with those m3s
how did you not take the hint when the license plate says "M3 OAF"
My e36 has 405,000 miles and still running. I've beat the f out the car chipped the ECU only and suspension changed. No rust problems to bits and parts falling off or breaking. Yeah the horse power lacked before but it real won't die. Lol Best 3 I ever bought
how the fuck, my e36 m3 lasted to 210k miles :(((
living4ultron!!!! No shit
Well i must say, that i love your videos! I think car throttle is one of the most funny car channels in youtube! But i got a question to Alex. And i have to ask him in german because i think that is really amazing. British english and perfectly german. Alex i love you :D ... so ... Wie läuft es zurzeit mit deinem M3 ? Ist er wieder fit oder dauern die Reparaturen noch?
Loving the old school Star Wars style credit roll at the end lol
How are u supposed to prevent the car from rusting? Seems impossible
Live in an area that doesn't need salt on the road. Looking at a 300CI 2001 now. Not a spec of rust under it
buy a Delorean
cause stainless steel is famous for rusting right
Just dont store it outside, make sure seals are in good condition, have a proper undercoating under the car and if you can avoid driving it in the winter because of salt. The main reason for a buying a winter beater.
And don't live in britain.
Stainless steel is expensive and fucking hard to machine.
3:38
"Is it because of this?"
"Yeah"
"Bastard"
"Yeah"
On the strength of this video, I used Munich Legends for a pre-purchase inspection of my 2011 BMW M3. They inspected it thoroughly, produced a report, and I got the dealer I was buying the car from to sort out the couple of issues (non-cosmetic) found which was 1 tyre to be replaced and rear brake discs and pads to be replaced. Since I bought the car, it's been sweet as a nut! Clearly they did a good job on the pre-purchase inspection. Happy days! :)
Im stunned with how common rust is in old cars up in north. In southern Europe the most common thing in old cars is clear coat peel from the sun. I see it every day, i see it in my car. But rarely rust. Except if you live near sea side.
Who else thought it was going to be another lemon song?
Why didn't you inspect it first before making it an official buy?
Many garages don’t allow it
what's vanos is that like smog regulations or something and did he hook up an obd like scanner to the oil fill cap
I can't believe this is 4 years old already , well Alex hasn't aged too badly
