How long does G-Shock Tough Solar Take to Charge?

  • Ever wondered how long does G Shock Tough Solar take to charge? I do a little experiment today over ten hours which should help answer that question at least partially. I used four G-Shock watches; the GMW B-5000 Metal Square, the GWG 1000 Mudmaster, the G 9300 Mudman and the GW 9400 Rangeman. For me G Shock’s Tough Solar is one of the best functionalities of these fine watches - they are self-sustaining, harness the sun and virtually last forever with zero maintenance (at least that is true in my 25+ years of owning them).
    I hope you find this useful or interesting.
    I also briefly discuss the hour beep club; a method by which I gently remind myself to do something active whenever I hear the hour signal alarm on my G-Shock. It doesn’t have to be intense although today I did a few rounds of kettlebell snatches with my 16kg kettlebell. Sometimes I stretch for two minutes, sometimes I do box-breathing or meditate, sometimes I just think positive thoughts. It’s simple and effective - give it a try... See more about the HOUR BEEP CLUB in this video: • Set your G-Shock Alarm...
    I also discuss my 5.11 molle insert for my rucksack. It’s great way for modular and well managed packing.

    Hi buddy, love the video twh thumbs up 👍👍. However the length of time taken to solar charge the mudman will depend where you are. I live in the tropics so under direct sunlight took my mudman to charge from M to H in under 4 hours. But being in the tropics you will have to be mindful the plastic does not melt as temperatures on the surface you lay the watch can hit 50 degrees celcius. Rubber at this point will turn soft and plastic will be at pre melt point. Temperatures my short the battery or melt the plastic components if no care is taken.
    Trust this is helpful.

However, it already happened to me with 1 model, Gravitymaster GPW-1000, that after 2-3 years, battery completely died. I could not weak up it anymore on direct sun light. • @RoZZameSS
    @RoZZameSS Před 3 lety +1

    The difference between charge times might have something to do with the size of the built-in solar panel itself (it's huge on the GWG-1000 compared to other models), which lets it "catch" sunlight more efficiently. When I got mine (brand new) it was showing medium; wore it outside to do some gardening and about 40 minutes in- the charge level jumped to high.

    • @stormrider1119
      @stormrider1119  Před 2 lety

      Based on my experience this isn’t an issue in my opinion. The medium battery setting is a lot of power, and it will only go to high after extensive period outside in relatively bright light. I wouldn’t worry too much about getting it to high. As long as you go outside sometimes it will remain charged. The Power Save (PS) mode is also useful if you don’t use outdoors so much.

      Good question. It doesn't state exactly in the guide as it depends how strong the light is, and I think you have to be careful about direct sunlight if there is a risk of it getting too hot. But when I have a tough solar on 'low' it takes about 3 hours in decent outdoor light to go 'medium' then longer to go to 'high' . Could be 6 or 9 hours extra but it's OK as when it's on 'medium' it lasts do a loooong time. Check out the video I did of my G-Shock G-9300 Mudman charging to 'high' a few months ago. Adam Tayli Great choice, a fantastic watch. Yes, a shame about the MTG, but try the ‘hour beep’ with the GWG at least, trust me it helps get the blood flowing every so often; a little movement on a regular basis makes a big compounded difference. Cheers!

    How long does an entire solar wheel last on your digital models?

    • @stormrider1119
      @stormrider1119  Před 2 lety +1

      If you mean how long will it last from a 'high' solar charge its difficult to give a duration as there are many dependencies, not least how much sun/light it gets exposed to day to day, do you have power save mode on etc. Put it this way in 12 years of ownership I've never had the solar battery on my G-9300 run empty and that's without even trying to maintain charge. It's an excellent system. I hope that helps...

    I'm trying to charge my GW-7900B since 3 days now (6 hours a day) with artificial light from a smartphone flashlight, but it's still on medium. 🤔🤷🏼‍♂️

    • @stormrider1119
      @stormrider1119  Před 3 lety +1

      Have you tried just putting it on the window sill? I could be wrong but I think you will find that works well even if it isn't particularly sunny outside. And yes I have also found it can take a longer time to charge to Max but the fact its on medium is good anyway as it will last for ages from medium also. Cheers!

      You were right, I put the watch outside again this early sunny sunday morning and some minutes ago as I checked it again, it was on high again. 👍🏻
      So it took (it bit more than) 18h with flashlight and 2 days outside in daylight what seemed more effective.
