- how to remove and replace a front shock absorber on a Mercedes w203 w202 c208 a208 w208 w210 etc.
lower shock bolt torque 45 ftlb
upper nut torque 13 ftlb
upper lock nut torque 35 ftlb follow me on twitter / fupabox - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Thanks dude couldn't do my merc without you..
Thanks for the video, best taking top mount bolt out first though, otherwise the shaft may spin as you are trying to remove the locking nut (mine has a singular locking nut and not 2 bolts). Currently in the process of doing mine on an A208. Fronts done, on to the rears
hi there. i have w202 c200 (1996) , and there is annoying sound coming from the front wheel (left wheel) each time i crossed the speedbump . maybe you know where the sound came from? i tried to spray some part with WD-40 Grease. but it seems it doesn't work.
Can you show how to do rear shocks on Convertible?
Question: when you're tightening the top shock nuts, don't you have to keep the shaft from turning with an open-end wrench or the shaft will turn as you are trying to tighten the nut?
you may need to..depends on a few things...how easily the upper shock shaft spins, nut tightness, rust, etc. using an impact wrench is easiest as it will usually not allow the shaft to spin
thanks for posting a useful video but youre doing it wrong. top bolt should be tightened till it bottoms out against the spacer - if youre using the wrench with the socket you cant even see if youre turning the bolt or entire shaft, that is why the tip of the shaft is machined to fit a locking tool (tox or small wrench depending on design) to counterhold the shaft from spinning while torquing the bolt.
Mine makes a clacking noise on passager front when driving but when it rains it goes away I am so confused on what can it be
Did the shorter length make a difference? Thanks.
I thought they would have an issue with downward travel, but after 400km of driving they seem fine
Did it on my w202 c240 without taking wheels of :D
yes you can...I needed room to film and was also changing winter wheels back to summer ones... much quicker to do with the wheels on though :)
***** any suggestions how to get of exhaust manifold ( drivers side UK) , would undoing engine mount gain any space or do I really have to take engine out? There is a hole like a size of pens tip, tried to glue it with thermometal, did hold for a month :( Any ideas...
Uģis Graudiņš screw a self tapping screw into the hole with high temp exhaust cement on the threads to seal it
***** I can reach it only by one finger cos the hole is between engine and the manifold at the far end of engine bay, even when I take of all coil packs and induction pipes I still can't see it cos between the head and fire wall isn't so much space, so I thought undoing engine mount and lifting it a bit up would give me some space, but I still couldn't reach lower nuts to take it off, and there is no chance of getting anything down there to screw something in the hole, asked some local garages for help, for such a job they charge 40 to 70 £/h , an they claim it's gone take at least 4 to 6 hours.... no comment there :(
Uģis Graudiņš
Yeah it is pretty tight..I would try the engine mount since it is only 1 lower bolt and makes a huge difference when doing the spark plugs...it can't hurt to give it a try
How do I know I need new ones? 16 yrs 211k on mine. Thanks.
The original shocks will last an awful long time...mine were 265k when I replaced them..they were getting a little bouncy on bumps...It's tough to do the normal bounce test on Mercedes shocks ,since they are so stiff from the factory..they still will seem as good as a normal shock absorber even at 16 years old..if they are original after 16 year..they are prob. ready to be repalced
Thx bro. Tommorow if everything will be alright gonna change too.
Hi,
Are these spring loaded too? Thanks!
Yes.. all shocks are...Mercedes just happens to use very very stiff shocks
***** Looks to me like the fronts are easier to get in than the rears?
Terry Gee
they are a bit easier...there are ticks to getting them in..you can tie a loop in one end of a strong thin rope or string..compress the shock by pushing it into the ground and leaning on it,then tie the other end of the string through the bottom bolt mount..this will keep them compressed as you get them in place..then just snip the string and they will extend into their mounts...I'll do a quick video on it..it's pretty simple and a good trick to know
what suspension you have? from wat i readed
sport and elegance have different ride height? (i dont want a boat when i drive i want it to be stiff)
The difference between the sport and regular/elegance suspension , is in 2 areas..the sway bars and the rubber spacer on top o the spring..the elegance model has a thicker rubber spacer that raises the ride height slightly..the sport has a thinner spacer, and a lower ride height ..shocks are the same front and rear .. the rubber spacer on both front and rear controls the ride height
no the sport have different springs and shocks for sure aswell as sway bar and even front top control arms
Yes different shocks as well. My father fitted elegance shocks to his 1999 Sport CLK320 to soften the ride. Worked well. Conversely I had just got his lowered W202 C Class elegance and I fitted the CLK's Sport shocks to it to stiffen it up a little. The shocks fit both models.
what springs did the w202 have when you put the shocks in
My memory is a little hazy on that. I lowered it and fitted 18 inch monoblock wheels. If my memory serves me correctly Pi springs which were popular if a bit of a budget choice at the time.
Hello, I have the same train suspensión, is it the sport suspensión train or the normal one? Thanks!
Normal . Not the sport
@@fupabox but is it still possible to mount sports suspension? I would like to mount bilstein b6, b8 or adjustable konis.
@@fupabox If you also can tell me how the monroe´s oespectrum worked on your clk, it would be nice. Does it get more stiffer?
@@knoxx9964
The difference between the sport and standard suspension on the w202 based chassis was the rubber spring isolator . The standard suspension uses a thicker rubber isolator and the sport used a 1inch thinner rubber
Is this the same as 230 clk
if it a first generation ..yes
new cam ?? this one has more colors and its a bit sharper too ^^ and ya btw i think i found out what the heck is wrong with my car ! well like always the garage that i took it too told me first we need to fix the MAF oil problem ((after he plugged in with the factory obd device )) then we can move on to see all the error code`s he asked for 180$ to change the MAF and clean the pipes and thats with out the parts :S so i asked how much did it cost for getting the codes out he said 14$ and i gave him that and left .... 180$ for changing a MAF !!??!!?!?? WHAT THE HECK !! ya no ty im doing it my self .... going back to my old mecha last time he did remove the bumper and all the SC pipes and cleaned them for like 30$ im going to give the MAF a clean up with CRC cleaner and see where it ends up !! lol 180$ xD im working in the wrong profession!!
$180 for 5 mins. ? wow..we're both in the wrong business :) same camera just perfect lighting (Kodak playsport zx5 burton edition...I'm rough on cameras in the garage and need something that can get dropped, covered in oil ,gas, paint, snow rain..and still work..nothing else has ever come close..but it likes perfect lighting) hopefully the MAF cleaning does the trick..fingers crossed
