    Have you noticed your Mercedes' front end bouncing a little too much in your everyday driving? Are the smallest potholes in the road enough to send a shock up your spine? Your front struts and springs may have given up. Luckily, we've prepared an easy to follow video on replacing the front struts and springs on W203 and W209 Mercedes Benz's, but the general idea is the same for cars.

    DO NOT remove the sway bar link bolt as described. DO NOT turn the 7mm hex head while holding the bolt. You WILL tear the rubber boot! Hold the 7mm hex and turn the nut.

    Here are the torque specs for everyone, don't know why this was so hard for FCP to include in the video or description:
    Sway Bar links = 60nm (top and bottom)
    Strut to wheel hub = Top bolt 100nm + 90 degrees, Two bottom bolts 110nm
    Bolt on top of the strut = 60nm
    Piston securing nut = 20nm

    • @Mircea007
      @Mircea007 Před 3 lety

      I guess FCP did not used a torque wrench. And the strut bearing is probably not seated correct in the wing well.

  • @badkid73
    @badkid73 Před 2 lety +6

    Video would have been more useful if you had used stock springs or standard Bilstein springs which are longer than sport springs. The W203/W209 Strut is known to be the most difficult strut to compress/assemble, and a Baum 1117J compressor (or cheap Chinese clone) usually doesn't suffice. By the way, that spring compressor is NOT to be used with impact/power tools.

    • @RothBeyondTheGrave
      @RothBeyondTheGrave Před 2 lety

      You're not kidding. I have a non sport c207, so just about all my suspension is w204 parts. Those springs looked like they could've fit an F350 Super Duty or something.

    Does anyone know if they make a “Quick Strut” assembly? Basically a pre loaded assembly with the coil spring installed and compressed. I would rather pay a touch more initially to get a simple plug and play assembly with all new components including coil spring. Safer and probably easier in the long run.

  • @chaliebhichaisornplaeng232

    Hello My 2017 GLC X253, spring version has problem since day one with tires noise transmitted to the car body and this goes to all of X253 spring models with all tires and rims, 19" would be the lease. After many exams I believed that the tires noise ran through the front struts to the body. On W205 you don't have this kind of problem so after checking the different you should get the front springs the bent strut profile (front wheel drive) and smaller boot for lower control arms. Do you experience such problem and if so, how you solved it. I am checking if anyone make a steel/rubber strut mount for this model yet. Thanks for your comment
