I love to watch your videos because your enthusiasm is contagious! I come away from them inspired and ready to tackle any project. ❤ I'm currently struggling with colour choices on a particular project, but your book recommendations in another video gave me a heads-up and now I think I know exactly how to tackle that.
I'm a patron. I feel sure a lot of us love you very much and feel very thankful. I'm able to paint to a much higher standard now which is nice given my very limited time and busy schedule. YOU have given me *some* grasp of color theory, light and shadow, that I was utterly lacking before. I sometimes find myself staring into light and color almost hypnotized by its beauty, something I'd never experienced before your videos. It's changed the way I see the world. I'll still be your Patron when we're both old and feeble.
I have been using oils to generate darker skin tones for a while now. I find it much easier than getting the same results with acrylics. You have given me more confidence to combine oils and acrylics instead off of pure one or the other.
I had a fantastic time at your classes at Adepticon, and hope to have the opportunity to take more next year! I've learned a bit of patience through watching your videos and putting them into practice. Sometimes the techniques are a little scary and overwhelming at first, but I've discovered slowly but surely as I continue to paint and return to rewatch the videos I've already watched, more and more pieces click into place for me, and I'm able to take on and internalize more. I'm extremely glad to have your guiding hand in my hobby journey, even if it does enable my tendency to buy every shiny new paint and tool that catches my eye. I'm well past the point of expecting them to magically make me a better painter, but that doesn't make me want the fun new toy any less.

Happy Painting has never been more important: I want to bring more high profile projects to the channel for their immense teaching/learning value and show how fun and enjoyable they can be! The new format is meant to give proper focus to every step, because there's a bunch of stuff to say on a bunch of little things, and avoid the "How to draw an owl" meme effect 😅🤣😅
I was really bogged down by trying to paint models that everyone else (with way more experience than me) is painting. Just recently (last week) I decided just to paint for fun, no pressure to complete a model that I didn't really understand or like a lot.
When starting out like me, I believe that getting paint of your choice onto a model is more important and way more fun than trying to make every model display level. The last 2 models were easy. Go with the flow. I am also learning how my paint works, and many other lessons.
Thank you so much for your video's, even though I am not anywhere near your standard, I love the lessons learned. Not just the painting lessons.
Great video; I've been waiting so long for another during the break for conventions! Any chance that some future content could include squig painting? I'm currently going through and painting my army with techniques I've learned in your typical workflow, but was interested to see what sort of unique tricks you may employ for them specifically.

Quick question: I’ve noticed some of my acrylics will reactivate Liquitex white ink from the value sketch, creating a ‘muddy’ mixture on the model surface. Do you think this is from having too much moisture on the brush, from a particular medium, or should I just take the extra step to varnish after the value sketch (which I don’t recall seeing you do, but perhaps is happening off camera)?

I just bought the same white by aerocolor but it clogged my airbrush after few minutes… how did you dilute it?
1:15 that is the first time I have seen you use Schmincke's white ink. How dos it compare to the Liquitex one? Usually artist inks are quite similar to one another, but I stil have noticed differences between brands.
Have you noticed that Liquitex White has a tendency to lift when washing?
@@darrylkerbow7948 With every fragile airbrushed (especially) ink layer, you run the risk of lifting it, when you go over it with a premade wash or contrast like paint. The more your rub, the higher change you have. The longer you let it dry, the lower the change. A thin layer of varnish over the top, or even mixed in, helps a lot.
I think the reason you don't see Marco having this issue, is because he doesn't go over his work too much. Using one thick layer of contrast for example and not going back as others might do.

This is something interesting that I'm testing in this precise moment! In their line they have a super opaque white (amazing for solid shapes blocking, but in general not so different from Liquitex Titanium White, maybe just a tiny bit more brilliant) and this transparent version that I'm finding really good for a more gentle explorative dusting of the shapes. It''s also great for small delicate glazes of white!
Wait, what? Gouache is basically a contrast replacement? 😮
Uh no no, quite the opposite 😅! Acrylic (in this case) gouache is extremely opaque and mat so great to quickly establish basic tones. I switch between the two depending on the colours/level of vibrancy I need
@@MarcoFrisoniNJM but you end up with a green with a lot pf shadow/light contrast. How? You did no highlighting at all. How come it is not a flat green? Off camera highlighting?..

@@MarcoFrisoniNJM I see, thank you. I may be the only person who can not get preshading to do anything useful when I basecoat, but for me it just disappears, particularly with dark opaque basecoat colors like Vallejo Extra Opaque etc. Maybe I ought to give acrylic gouache a chance.

Welcome back, Marco! Could you help me understand a point you made in your video? Are you saying that when we are confronted with our internal anxieties about painting (not being good enough, perfectionism, comparisons, etc) we can remind ourselves to be grateful for our own personal accomplishments, community, and growth as a way of dealing with those things that make us anxious?
I know you asked Marco but if it might help you i give you an psychological perspective on this matter. When dealing with anxieties most of the times the root of this uncomfortable intimidating emotions goes back to our childhood where we as human beings are very vulnarable to traumatizing experiences.
One example for this would be parents who would never be pleased with your performance in school or would very rarely direct their attention to you as a individual human being but use you to project their own ideas and concept of life on you mostly because they simply couldn´t live it that way themselves.
There are a multitude of psychological compensation strategies a human being could develop to cope with such circumstances. In this case perfectionism could be such a strategy.
The first thing to realize as an Adult is that those kind of things are rooted in your childhood and when experienced as an adult it´s an automated mechanism that was developed as a child or adolescence to cope with what ever the trigger was back in the time.
In most cases those strategies become dysfunctional in our adult life often preventing us to truly develop ourselfs.
The inner critic tends to be harsher than it should be as we wouldn´t criticize others in such unforgiving manner.
What would be helpful is being mindful of whats happening with you in certain situations, realizing it and than being quick witted about it so you can respond to it without being controlled by your emotions.
That would be an more indepth approach to these kind of situations from an psychological standpoint.
An other approach to overcome fear is to face your inner fears so you can have a personal experience and understanding that it isn´t a life threatening situation, even if you failed you´re still alive.
Being grateful, community etc those are little treats that allways should be part of your daylie life to nurture you and others.
I hope this helps a little bit and takes a little away of the intimidation factor in such situations.

I am pretty sure that is intentional seeing as i have that seam on every one of my shirts and hoodies.

Oh yeah, that's part of the sculpt as the seam of the heavy fabric of the hoodie! That whole arm is a single block of resin that slots into the torso section
