Sniffing glue fumes is the key
I agree 🙏
And snorting resin dust. Ultimate stimulant
I can't argue with that..... 😂😂😂
Petrol
🤤Mainlining mineral-spirits.
I can't unsee Ghazkull rocking a quad car cigarette lighter. Maybe I'm just old because I doubt many will know what I'm referring to. Cool model and very informative as always.
Ghazkull is genuinely one of the coolest Ork models out there, and the amount of painting possibilities you can do with him is honestly astonishing. Saw a few Ghazkulls online that have genuinely blown me away!
I do think the effect on the barrels turned out alright! However it feels less like a muzzle flash and more like the glow of the hot barrel to me. You could accentuate that by adding the effect over the first half of the barrels too!
Spot on. Ghaz needs a barrel change!
Same, go with the orange red overheated barrel effect... which would be a nice part of a video in of itself.
Agreed. It reads very well at a glance though.
I thought he'd be highlighting all over with the yellows and reds of the flashing weapons. Seems more like a warm glow as current, as the op said.
Exactly, I think it's a great thing to do if you wanna do fancy plasma effects but none of your army has access to fancy laser guns
A very nice reminder to paint what like and how you like
That muzzleflash effect is AWESOME
I guess the choco taco thing is a big deal because you have to buy it from a scalper who's been stockpiling them in their freezer. So it's gonna be expensive and you really only have a short amount of time left in which you can buy one and still expect it to not have gone bad.
Just wanted to say thanks for giving credit for art and painted models that you put in your videos it shows just how in touch you are with the community
As someone who is just getting into miniature painting thanks to Star Wars Legions (tried to stay away from Warhammer through my youth, but we all know that's where this is heading); I love your videos. Always informative, fun and the outcome is always incredible. Your enjoyment of this is evident, especially in this video, and its very contagious. It always makes me look forward to sitting down and try what I've been learning.
Iv been at it on and off over the years id say im still noob but Im getting better then I thought I could be. If you keep doing it I think its bound to happen. It even becomes more fun. Have fun.
I mean it isn't that significant because I am just one person. But I thought I should let you know that you are the last Warhammertuber that I am still subscribed to as the content has stayed top notch and you have also avoided any sort of drama. Nice one!
The quick middle finger had me laughing out loud. That was fantastic physical comedy and editing. @ 14:42
Jon makes this look so easy lol
Jon, I’m a huge Ork fan, so you know I had to watch this one. I absolutely died laughing at your “thumbs up” after the muzzle flare segment.
14:42 got me. I think if you had each barrel at different stages of firing it would look a bit more interesting
yep, absolutely. love the attempt though, gotta learn new stuff by trying!
This.... yup....this
Just painted my first GW model in months after painting mainly bust and smaller company minis. This look is what I was going for but didn't quite get there. But I'll be using this video for reference in future
The idea of getting good results and enjoying your painting by relaxing more is so true. Fussing about getting every last detail done "the right way" is a trap for a lot of us.
The muzzle flash doesn't look bad either, but some smoke and/or flames from the barrels would really sell the idea they're churning out hot death. I know there's a few 3rd party companies that sell physical muzzle flashes for smaller stuff like bolters but I wouldn't be surprised if there's bigger ones suitable for artillery etc that would work on Ghazkull.
Could you do infinity and conquest miniature painting videos? Both games deserve more exposure on youtube, their models are gorgeous and you are insane at painting, perfect match :D. Love your content keep it up!😊
Really liked this approach and the mindset behind it! Made me want to paint something this way just to try it out and see the result!
Would love to see you show it off again on something with more curves and not as commonly seen looking as roughed up.
This is probably the best video I've seen in the way of leveraging a small amount of painting for a big amount of result. You da man, Jon.
Hahahahahaha The Tumbs up/Finger flight is my favorite part of this video!
Seeing the muzzles of the gun face on, they look like targets. Seeing them at an angle when you look at the front of the model the look amazing. Nice one.
I've tried this paint style on my own and I really like the way it makes my minis look. Just like Brent from Goobertown says, "paint bravely." I heard that and just decided to hack and slash, loved the results and have been working on refining it.
I find u inspiring to me. To do more mini painting and to improve. U are my favorite CZcamsr. Thank you, seriously.
30 seconds in and the intro alone deserves a like. You're amazing man, love the content!!!
Started painting with THICC layers and airbrush blending afterwards like the Spanish painters do. It’s hella fun and looks awesome
Oh my god, I've been trying to paint in this style for ages, and someone's finally put it into words. Thank you!!
I really liked how you mixed lighting and texture into the same steps, remind me of how Sergio Calvo works
I've been away a while, but back now, had forgotten how funny you are fella. Loved the double thumbs up to double eff you. Brilliant
This is exactly the kind of approach I use in digital painting I don't know why I didn't think of it before, actual lighting base colors for shadows instead of pure white or black for shading and highlights
Great model!. Also, the muzzle flair effect is taking me back to an old pickup truck where, as a bored, curious child I learned what a 'cigarette lighter' is.
I initially struggled picturing light/shade. Then, however, I stopped thinking it as "light," and "shadow," and began thinking of it more akin to fluid dynamics.
This helped me, perhaps it will help someone else.
I like the way you speak about painting. The Exact same thing happened more than 100 years ago with modern vs classic painters. It's cool to see the same story happen on the miniature painting. Maybe that in 10 years we will let our miniatures in abbadon black to mimic Pierre Soulages paints!
Experimenting is always a good thing and showing your mistakes is honest and cool.
Love this mini! Great job!
I can feel the fun and love from this mini. Love how you did this
I'm no professional level painter, but what I do is put down my base color, then highlight with a much brighter color. Then I tie it together by putting a layer of contrast paint over it.
Specifically for my current 40k color scheme, I basecoat purple, put a medium red over it, highlight raised edges with a red bordering on orange, then hit it with a dark red contrast paint.
For the barrels, and I can only recommend it because i've seen it done by people who love to go all out on overheated looking metallics, is to try a thin layer of purple and blue with some silver, to give it that strange transition that heat produces over metal (maybe that's more a flamethrower thing? I dunno..) ...other then that, I can say that this style is just the sort of crisp and in your face that I can really appreciate for a display model. will definitely try those brush scratchings.
I really like the result! Awesome job!
Its so great and freeing to just paint without obsessing over details
From one Jon to another, this is GREAT.
Got a ton of new ideas and help from this. Good stuff, amigo!
Excellent video as always. I'm always impressed by the results you achieve speedily!
Really love your casual style, and that you point out that you should have fun painting and always try things. You are an awesome painter and you should appreciate your work more I feel, as you're way way beyond this "will I be able to do this" threshold mate, your work is really inspiring
Thank you, interesting way to look at painting!
Love this painting style! And the barrels look cool!
Stunning looking model! I wasn't convinced by the barrel glow idea at first when it was zoomed right in close, but fuck, it looked great on the final shots. Definitely going to try that technique. Superb as always! 🤘
Loved the video. Thanks a lot for the great work
Fantastic video! For the first shot at muzzle heat, it looks pretty dang good! Keep up the painting videos!
Absolutely great video! The knowledge and hard work encompassed in this video are barely ever surmountable! Thank you, Ninjon, for making this reality!!
Nice work! Looks great!
Awesome video! Really liked the lighting tips as well as the grimey metallics.
Thanks Jon. Your videos are very inspiring to me. I really love your style of presentation and choice of models. You rock. 🤘🏻
Good thing that you credited the artists for the mini and the artwork.
I hope more YT people will do the same
I really really dig that process man. And the ideas and the fact that it was a breath of fresh air. Super cool result.
I love how you mention your inspiration for the style you're going for then proceed to elevate the style by showing more restrain in the scratchiness and the griminess. Your interpretation is full of intricacies without becoming overwhelming. Great Job!
I absolutely love how these dark metals and the scratches look, definitely gonna do this
Love this approach! I've definitely been gravitating to a "less is more" approach to my painting recently. Lots of inspiration here!
The double bird a nanosecond before the cut away after talking about criticism on the internet was *chef's kiss*! 😂😂😂
Thank you for this, man. It's videos like this one that gave me the confidence to really improve my painting. And it paid off because I just won a local painting competition! Much love and thanks again for the quality content!
sweet work. Will give it a shot!
Dude I love the personality you bring to your videos, I lost it when you jump cut the twin birds😂 keep being awesome
I love the effect on the barrel ! I always like when there are effects that make the mini more dynamic !
Great video, very inspring. I am definitely going to try this! Thanks and keep them coming!!
I think it's sweet, especially the fact that it's"firing" the one thing you may want to try next time is to go a little ways down the barrel with the bright colors like it's really heated up.
So many videos and channels focusing on the smoothest and creamiest of blending techniques, or how to slop shit on to get ‘em table ready.
Subscribed because of this video. Glad to see more varied techniques on a mini video instead of wading through fine art and scale modeling videos to get other than eavy metal style.
Love it
Just wanted to drop by and just say that i'm learning a lot by watching your vids and i can't wait to try out some of the stuff i've seen you do. thanks and keep it up!
I like the idea on the barrels, buuuuuuut, I always imagine that multi barrelled weapons fire in sequence, with your AMAZEBALLS skill, you could darken different barrels slightly to give the impression of the barrel being that second or two cooler than the next... but its still bloody superb work as ever... and yes, I will be trying to win this at WHFest
Great insights here! Going to try this out on my backlog this weekend
you are amazing, your painting is beautiful! Thanks for sharing your painting work
The Muzzle flash looks super cool and good tip for just trying something new! thanks coach
Top work mate. Your skill set is phenomenal. 👍
Love your videos Jon!
I appreciate your ability to break down your process and explain your techniques. You provide that great blend of quality miniature painting for the every day wargamer who doesn't want every model to be a display piece!
Great video and a lot of good reminders about the fundamentals. I'm particularly digging the tips on TMM.
Thanks for reminding us that there are many valid ways to paint and having fun is important part. I've been experimenting with a variation of this style but creating textures using over thinned paint and a big brush ( like a 6-8). The concept to have fun and pushing color combining base coating layering and weathering steps together and then detail and clean up steps together.
AMAZING WORK AS ALWAYS!!
He looks so gritty, I love it! Great job :) The claws are my favorite part. Makes me want to try this style this weekend. Thank you
Looks great. I think the barrels look like he's charging his shoota up, really cool!
Once again; thanks for another great tutorial.
This is it.
This is the video that’s finally pushed me out of my shell of base colors and a wash.
It’s time to try highlighting again. It’s time to try battle damage.
It’s time to try something, anything else.
I really like this style and I think your muzzle effect came out really cool. Makes me want to paint a big robot.
Rough, weathered, and textured is my favorite way of doing things most of the time, and this was a fun video to watch and get some more insight as to what I may be missing whenever I attempt to lay paint to mini. Turns out I miss lots of things, but that's what videos like these are for! Edge highlighting & scratches are the bane of my existence because no matter how much I try thinning or not thinning my paint, half the time I get big ugly splodges that make me frown.
I’ve recently stopped priming in black and instead use various browns, similar to this video. The tips in here Will really help me elevate my paint job! Great results!
Jon, that might be my favorite model from any of your videos. Fantastic job!
I've recently adopted this messy painting style after watching a load of richard grays videos and have been having lots of fun with it. Its nice to see it here too and find that your experience with it is similar to mine.
Really enjoy you videos mate.
Love the humour.
Top tier.
I really liked the sentiment at the end, that painting is minis is also about fun.
Keep going Jon! Even if I didn't find the time to slay the grey, your videos keep me intrested in the hobby at least.
I grew up airbrushing and using cans, then doing the manual highlighting. I'm just getting into the powders and using AK weathering paints. I was almost screaming "STREAKING GRIME!!!" when you were using the Citadel rust stuff.
Great work!
What an amazing model! I’ve waited so long for you to paint a model from the 40k master race. I hope you had as much fun as I do painting orks, and I look forward to seeing you painting literally every other ork model in existence.
Great vid, love how you're adding artist credits to the GW stuff you show
I really enjoyed this Jon. Watching you paint a minaiture is cool, getting tips is also cool, making me believe it is possible for me to do this......bless you!!!🤣🤣
I wasn't sure how I felt about the muzzle flair but then you did the second pass wit the rotating shots it really draws your eye really nicely. Looks real nice.
Another great vid by my favorite painter!
That model is something. I've been looking for an alternative to blending, so thanks for this, Jon.
This was an amazing video! ❤
another great video! Thanks
I'm watching you since the beginning. I'm happy to see you develop. Love your cooperation with Miniac, and it's good to see your both channels not disturbing each other, and the friendly rivalry. I dig your sense of humor, and I think, that you're one of the most charismatic creator on YT (I'm not an expert, not watching plenty of creators, because most of them didn't suck me in). I want to say to you Great Work! Thanks for letting me enjoy it (for free - just this kind of comment).
if you do that muzzle flair effect again it might be elevated by using a counter sinking bit to taper the hole so you get that effect of looking down the barrel!
Looks freaking amazing
Really great video! I learned a lot. Ninjon gets better and better :).
