  • The Kwikset Halo Touch smart lock uses biometrics to secure your home. It can register 100 different fingerprints from 50 different users. We try it out and train it to recognize my fingerprints so I can unlock the deadbolt with a tap - and it even connects via wi-fi!

    This is the LockPickingLawyer, and what I have for you today is a Kwikset "Halo Touch". It's another electronic smart lock that offers vanishingly little protection against even the most basic of attacks. Folks, I've never seen an electronic lock so poor. That's all I have for you today.

      @Haitian Xu You need to stop listening to that dude, 99% of criminals won't bother to try to get through your locks.

      Imagine someone running up behind you, then attack you, extort you, then kill you, only to utilize all of your fingerprints until the perpetrator gains entry...
      No thanks.

    Later this year... The last Halo keypad lock debut at CES last year, it finally came out in December, and pretty much only on Amazon.

    I was almost sold until you said the price, I will keep my keypad ones for now.

      If you have a keypad system already, there have been fingerprint replacements for them for years. They're quite cheap.

      @@AnonymousUser77254 I haven't seen anything for residential. I have one of those nice Schlage door handle sets that come in two pieces where you have the big handle at the bottom and then the actual lock part is separate and above that. I have the keypad lock on that, but declined putting an automated one on there you could unlock via wifi because you know, someone else might be able to also. I like the idea of a fingerprint one, but for you know, maybe $100.

    Have you ever seen “Demolition Man” (1993),
    or the James Bond movie in which the villain character Mr. Kil “lends” James Bond a hand (which I think is from “Die Another Day” from 2002)?
    The problem with biometric ID (including Apple’s “Touch ID“ is that the part of the body being scanned MUST be attached to the original body it came from in order for it to be truly secure. Otherwise, what is to prevent Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes from “Demolition Man”) from “borrowing” your body parts?

    • @cekinci
      @cekinci Před 4 lety

      i don't think this is intended for high-security areas like bank lockers, etc. This is more for short-lending/airbnb/quick access for cleaners, etc. If what you have in there is highly valuable, with fingerprint lock or not, they will make it happen. Steal your key, bulldoze the door, etc.

      @@memoil254 I always find it funny how people always focus on the computer aspect. ignoring every other aspect. Like windows or such. Also lets say I have a smart lock with no key hole. I would much rather have a lock where someone needs "computer skills" and the technology. Versus someone with 2 dollars worth of metal to pick a lock.
