I love the Keystone Cops. I've got some great memories of them on Saturday morning TV, back when their shorts were shown along side Laurel and Hardy and the Three Stoodges shows. I loved them all. I'm 67 and that was in the 1960's!
Oh wow I just remembered my grandparents having reels of film of the keystone cops. Every Sunday night grandpa would set up grandma would hang a white sheet up and we would watch for hours. Thank you Steve for jotting a long ago memory of my childhood.
Gotta love the Keystone Cops. From watching their films I have to wonder how close those guys came to serious injury or even death many times while giving millions of people great laughs. Thanks Steve, take care.

I love love love the old silent comedies! I have autism so the slapstick when I was growing up was and still is really funny too me. It truly was a small world when silent movies were being made. Great work as always.
As a lover of silent films since I was a little kid who used to go to the theater all by myself to watch them on "silent Saturday" at our local old movie palace, I really loved this. But I must admit that my favorite pie-in-the-face moment involved Anita Bryant. 😜🤣

Hi Steve! My mother lives in Echo Park a couple of blocks away from the old Mack Sennet studios where the Keystone Cops were filmed. It was converted into a Public Storage facility but it is the original studio bldg. There's also a Charlie Chaplin Square on the corner with a coffee shop.
Nice video. But you missed one thing in Inglewood. If you had gone to Inglewood City Hall, on West Manchester Boulevard, you would have seen Quincy's workplace. Meaning the TV series Quincy M.E. with Jack Klugman who died on December 24, 2012. Jack Klugman was born in Philadelphia April 27, 1922. They used that building (Inglewood City Hall) as the Los Angeles Medical Examiners Office. I love that show ! Thanks for showing a bit of Palm Springs. Ed.

A little bit of funny info on the pie in the face. Rick Nelson from Ozzie and Harriet fame used to have a yearly thing with his sons Matthew and Gunnar that some time during their birthday. That the birthday person would get a pie in the face. You never knew when and where you would get it. Matt and Gun continue this on on their birthdays too. It was funny they were doing a live interview and Gunnar kept turning around to keep from getting pied. It's sad so many of these men died so young. Thank you for all your hard work on these vlogs.

When my mum was alive she would talk often about the keystone cops and the silly shenanigans and if we were running around and falling over and behaving silly as kids she’d say it’s like watching an episode of the keystone cops . It’s funny I never understood it not just being a saying but after seeing a keystone cops episode finally understood lol 😂

My grandfather (born in 1906), used to have a saying, "What do you think this is, Fred Karno's army?" I never knew what he was refering to until I got access to the internet. Fred Karno was responsible for bringing Charlie Caplin and Stan Laurel to the US, and is credited with the 'pie throwing' slapstick routine.
Years ago, I lived in a medium size New Jersey town with an incompetent police force. One cop shot himself in the leg while pulling his pistol from its holster. Another rolled his police car onto its roof. And a third one was found, intoxicated, sleeping in a police car while on duty. We called them "our Keystone Kops".

Have you visited Charlie Chase? He's another I've enjoyed, especially the film where he is hanging onto a large clock outside a building as a lion is pawing at him. "Just a little amusement park." I had an aunt that thought Disney was crazy building an amusement park all the way down in Anaheim. After all, who would drive all the way down there in the middle of nowhere?
Too funny. My grandfather's 120 acre orange farm was what they wanted and Opa wouldn't sell. So they went to Anaheim and bought 11 smaller farms. Opa didn't think we needed any more parks. LOL. Back in the day.

I've been a fan, collector & researcher of Sennett comedians & comedies (my hero is Ben Turpin) for over 50 years and I too never heard of Chester 'Cactus Slim' Moorten (but will try to do some digging). Regarding actor / director George Jeske (born Jaeschke), he died at age 60 on Oct 28, 1951 and buried in Indio, California at the Coachella Valley Cemetery.

BTW, If Chester Moorten worked for Sennett, I'm guessing he was there in the mid-1920's. I just found a reference from the Sept 25, 1927 St. Louis Post-Dispatch: "Chester Moorten, the human skeleton, has been in many moving pictures, mostly as an emaciated dope addict. He is 6'-3" and weighs only 140 lbs. His waist measurement is 26" and his chest 34"." His 1930 Census entry lists him as 'Motion Picture Extra." - SteveR, Philadelphia

Though not a regular, Fatty Arbuckle did appear as a Keystone Kop. Charlie Chaplin made one appearance as a Keystone Kop in 1914 in a short called A Thief Catcher. It was lost for many years, but was found in Michigan in 2010.
Although I wasn’t a big fan of the Keystone Kops, my Son absolutely loved them. I will laugh at some parts if I happen upon one of them on the TV or on CZcams. When my kid and his friends were young, I swear that they used to channel the Keystone Kops! They did some of the dumbest things and after having the all the boys help us move ONE time, it was like watching a scene from one of their shows. There is a question I’ve always wanted to ask. Why is the Great Mausoleum in Forest Lawn Memorial Park closed to the public? God Bless
LOL, sounds like that would be fun to see Nancy! Yeah that’s a good question that everyone always asks. I sure wish I knew the answer. My guess is that they just get thousands and thousands of tombstone tourists and one or two high profile people interred there probably insisted that they lock the doors to the public. It’s usually one or two people who ruin it for everyone else. ☹️
My one complaint about Forest Lawn , Glendale is, they are restrictive about visiting certain areas and even open areas. My Dad, Mom , Aunt and Uncle are interred in the Freedom Masoleum. I have gone to visit and have been stopped and asked what I'm doing there. If they would open some areas of entertainers that we all enjoyed watching on TV and movies, it would give. FL and far more positive outlook...just my gripe..
If you believe that the FM is a bother policing-wise...I own property w/i the Great Mausoleum. Nowadays one would think that Homeland Security is handling the overseeing for protection there, as though one were about to set foot in Fort Knox. Just this side and short of a strip-search, you have to gain admittance by ringing the guard (who's stationed @ another entrance, the area the public may view) via a button on an intercom, then the personnel needs to know *who* you are visiting and then they need to look it up in their records for official verification before they'll unlock to door to let you in! (And, of course, there's the cameras to make certain that the visit is legitimate and don't linger/loiter too long, either.) I've never had a problem @ the Freedom Mausoleum, though, and I happen to have a relative interred there as well.
Good update on Keystone Cops except for one thing. Chester Moorten born in 1905 could not possibly have been an original Keystone Cop. They first appeared in 1912.
If I remember correctly Roscoe Arbuckle, AKA Fatty was a Key Stone Cop, not sure. Poor guy was destroyed in Hollywood by false rape accusations, may he now enjoy paradise in Gods Kingdom. I loved their short films the Cops, thanks for bringing this story forward. We have had terrible heat here in BC, a town called Lytton was totally destroyed by fire, temperature was at 49 Celsius. Yes, he was one of the many actors who are Keystone cops at least for a few films. He was definitely one of the bigger names. We are used to the heat down here, but I’m sure it must be pretty awful for you guys up there who are used to it. Sorry to hear about the fires and I hope it cools down soon for you Dan! 👍
@@TheGraveyardChannel Thanks for the good wishes weather wise, Vancouver had 486 lives lost due to heat in one day, mostly elderly folk. We live on the 15th floor on a corner so there is almost always a cross breeze. It was the Interior of the province that got hit the worse.

Robert Z. Leonard directed the Jeanette MacDonald - Nelson Eddy vehicle "Maytime" (1937) which Auntie a a bit part as well. H4E's online lists Charles Avery's grave location site as thus: COLM-COLSW/#/P, being the lower level south wall; and the GPS is 34.090056, -118.320861 (that one might be a tad off). He may be under the name of Charles Avery Bradford.

Having watched your wonderful video-you mentioned the last Keystone Cop dying in 1971. My grandfather, a keystone cop died in 1990. I wonder if my grandfather was the last one?
@@TheGraveyardChannel Julius Jack Morris. Sometimes he went by Jack Maurice. He was definitely the youngest of the three stooges. As best as I can tell, he may have started around 16. He did many of their most dangerous stunts. He ended up primarily being a stuntman for Chaplin, Fairbanks Sr. and others. People knew him best as “The Human Fly.” He’s buried in Hollywood Forever Cemetery. I was 9 years old. I spent every weekend with him growing up. I was so close to him, that I refused to go to his funeral when he died suddenly of a heart attack. I have never been to his grave, but planned on doing it in the next few months.
Great video Steve very very interesting stuff that I didn’t know , is interesting that in the USA once you buy a grave it is yours for ever not so in parts of Europe like Italy were it last for 30 years and after that a family member needs to pay to keep you there for another 30 years! And I think you can be extended maybe for another 30 or less and that’s it no more after that 😔 That’s not cool ! Is much better in the USA !

A little bit of funny info on the pie in the face. Rick Nelson from Ozzie and Harriet fame used to have a yearly thing with his sons Matthew and Gunnar that some time during their birthday. That the birthday person would get a pie in the face. You never knew when and where you would get it. Matt and Gun continue this on on their birthdays too. It was funny they were doing a live interview and Gunnar kept turning around to keep from getting pied. It's sad so many of these men died so young. Thank you for all your hard work on these vlogs.

When my mum was alive she would talk often about the keystone cops and the silly shenanigans and if we were running around and falling over and behaving silly as kids she’d say it’s like watching an episode of the keystone cops . It’s funny I never understood it not just being a saying but after seeing a keystone cops episode finally understood lol 😂

My grandfather (born in 1906), used to have a saying, "What do you think this is, Fred Karno's army?" I never knew what he was refering to until I got access to the internet. Fred Karno was responsible for bringing Charlie Caplin and Stan Laurel to the US, and is credited with the 'pie throwing' slapstick routine.

Years ago, I lived in a medium size New Jersey town with an incompetent police force. One cop shot himself in the leg while pulling his pistol from its holster. Another rolled his police car onto its roof. And a third one was found, intoxicated, sleeping in a police car while on duty. We called them "our Keystone Kops".

Another excellent visit with you Steve. I may have missed your other visits to comedians of the silent screen and was glad to see the very nice place of rest for Ben Turpin, one of my favorites. Have you visited Charlie Chase? He's another I've enjoyed, especially the film where he is hanging onto a large clock outside a building as a lion is pawing at him. Too funny. My grandfather's 120 acre orange farm was what they wanted and Opa wouldn't sell. So they went to Anaheim and bought 11 smaller farms. Opa didn't think we needed any more parks. LOL. Back in the day.
One thing to remember about the Keystone Cops is that they did all their own stunts regardless of the danger factor. They were real troupers!
Al "Fuzzy" St. John who appeared in dozens of westerns also appeared as a Keystone Cop.

I've been a fan, collector & researcher of Sennett comedians & comedies (my hero is Ben Turpin) for over 50 years and I too never heard of Chester 'Cactus Slim' Moorten (but will try to do some digging). Regarding actor / director George Jeske (born Jaeschke), he died at age 60 on Oct 28, 1951 and buried in Indio, California at the Coachella Valley Cemetery.
That is awesome Turpinutz! And thank you so much for the heads up on Jeske’s gravesite. Right here in my own backyard and I had no idea he was there. The very first video I did for this channel was a visit to the Coachella Valley cemetery. I will call the cemetery and see if they will tell me where he’s buried. Thanks again T! 😊👍

I just found a reference from the Sept 25, 1927 St. Louis Post-Dispatch: "Chester Moorten, the human skeleton, has been in many moving pictures, mostly as an emaciated dope addict. He is 6'-3" and weighs only 140 lbs. His waist measurement is 26" and his chest 34"." His 1930 Census entry lists him as 'Motion Picture Extra." - SteveR, Philadelphia

Though not a regular, Fatty Arbuckle did appear as a Keystone Kop. Charlie Chaplin made one appearance as a Keystone Kop in 1914 in a short called A Thief Catcher. It was lost for many years, but was found in Michigan in 2010.

Although I wasn’t a big fan of the Keystone Kops, my Son absolutely loved them. I will laugh at some parts if I happen upon one of them on the TV or on CZcams. When my kid and his friends were young, I swear that they used to channel the Keystone Kops! They did some of the dumbest things and after having the all the boys help us move ONE time, it was like watching a scene from one of their shows.
There is a question I’ve always wanted to ask. Why is the Great Mausoleum in Forest Lawn Memorial Park closed to the public? God Bless
LOL, sounds like that would be fun to see Nancy! Yeah that’s a good question that everyone always asks. I sure wish I knew the answer. My guess is that they just get thousands and thousands of tombstone tourists and one or two high profile people interred there probably insisted that they lock the doors to the public. It’s usually one or two people who ruin it for everyone else. ☹️
My one complaint about Forest Lawn , Glendale is, they are restrictive about visiting certain areas and even open areas. My Dad, Mom , Aunt and Uncle are interred in the Freedom Masoleum. I have gone to visit and have been stopped and asked what I'm doing there. If they would open some areas of entertainers that we all enjoyed watching on TV and movies, it would give. FL and far more positive outlook...just my gripe..
If you believe that the FM is a bother policing-wise...I own property w/i the Great Mausoleum. Nowadays one would think that Homeland Security is handling the overseeing for protection there, as though one were about to set foot in Fort Knox. Just this side and short of a strip-search, you have to gain admittance by ringing the guard (who's stationed @ another entrance, the area the public may view) via a button on an intercom, then the personnel needs to know *who* you are visiting and then they need to look it up in their records for official verification before they'll unlock to door to let you in! (And, of course, there's the cameras to make certain that the visit is legitimate and don't linger/loiter too long, either.) I've never had a problem @ the Freedom Mausoleum, though, and I happen to have a relative interred there as well.

Good update on Keystone Cops except for one thing. Chester Moorten born in 1905 could not possibly have been an original Keystone Cop. They first appeared in 1912.

If I remember correctly Roscoe Arbuckle, AKA Fatty was a Key Stone Cop, not sure. Poor guy was destroyed in Hollywood by false rape accusations, may he now enjoy paradise in Gods Kingdom. I loved their short films the Cops, thanks for bringing this story forward. We have had terrible heat here in BC, a town called Lytton was totally destroyed by fire, temperature was at 49 Celsius. Yes, he was one of the many actors who are Keystone cops at least for a few films. He was definitely one of the bigger names. We are used to the heat down here, but I’m sure it must be pretty awful for you guys up there who are used to it. Sorry to hear about the fires and I hope it cools down soon for you Dan! 👍
@@TheGraveyardChannel Thanks for the good wishes weather wise, Vancouver had 486 lives lost due to heat in one day, mostly elderly folk. We live on the 15th floor on a corner so there is almost always a cross breeze. It was the Interior of the province that got hit the worse.

Robert Z. Leonard directed the Jeanette MacDonald - Nelson Eddy vehicle "Maytime" (1937) which Auntie a a bit part as well. H4E's online lists Charles Avery's grave location site as thus: COLM-COLSW/#/P, being the lower level south wall; and the GPS is 34.090056, -118.320861 (that one might be a tad off). He may be under the name of Charles Avery Bradford.

@@TheGraveyardChannel Julius Jack Morris. Sometimes he went by Jack Maurice. He was definitely the youngest of the three stooges. As best as I can tell, he may have started around 16. He did many of their most dangerous stunts. He ended up primarily being a stuntman for Chaplin, Fairbanks Sr. and others. People knew him best as “The Human Fly.” He’s buried in Hollywood Forever Cemetery. I was 9 years old. I spent every weekend with him growing up. I was so close to him, that I refused to go to his funeral when he died suddenly of a heart attack. I have never been to his grave, but planned on doing it in the next few months.

And I think you can be extended maybe for another 30 or less and that’s it no more after that 😔 That’s not cool ! Is much better in the USA !
