  • A kitchen needs many uses in an RV/Camper/Van so turning the kitchen into an office is not that difficult if you modify the counter top to slideout and make a desk then add some metal trimwork and build a shelf behind the backsplash.

    Love your ideas. I want a mobile kitchen to cook in.

    Good idea. You could have even made it so the entire counter top slides towards you, instead of cutting half of it. Looking good!

      Thank you! I thought about the whole counter but will eventually be putting a sink in the right side and thought that would complicate the plumbing. Thanks for your comments and for watching!

    I can't believe how good it looks. I still don't like the gray, it needs some color but it looks so sleek and professional

      Thank you! I have been making the big items gray but will add color to smaller items as I go. I made a swivel desk table for the sofa and painted the metal parts gloss red. The paint is still drying and am interested to see how that will look. I have found that painting the big things the same color of the walls makes the space feel larger as everything flows together. The sofa really filled up the space and softened things up.

    On the cabinets where the cooler is going, maybe instead of combining the two doors, you could just attach the middle divider strip to either door, switch the hinges to the other side of the left door, and it they would both open but have no divider in between them, like a saloon door. Seems like it could maybe be less bulky, and wouldn't block the stairs or anything since they'd each be smaller. If you attached it to the left door, looks like you might even have enough room to fit the whole cooler behind it. Love this build and how it's turning out too!

    • @timdillen
      @timdillen  Před 5 lety +1

      Thank you! I have been thinking about your idea all afternoon and really like it. It would simplify the door building greatly. I am looking at the cabinets and only see one small issue. When both the doors would be open, and the cooler slid out, once you tilt open the cooler lid, you will have a bit less access to the contents as the cabinet doors are pretty tall and you would have to reach over the left door and a bit rearward to clear the cabinet door and cooler lid. I still might go this way, I need to ponder a bit more. Thanks for the tip!

    • @coryhaberberger9437
      @coryhaberberger9437 Před 5 lety +1

      Hmm all I can think of is maybe raising up the cooler on the slide out so it would be more even with the top of the cabinet, then you wouldn't have to bend down as much or reach over the cabinet door. Maybe then you could even put some storage under it for overflow that wont fit in the fridge like extra drinks, or anything really. I'll be excited to see how you adapt it, i'm sure you can make it work well!

    Fab as always. Id vote for simple backsplash for design and ease of cleaning. Why did you need to put that strip of metal over the moving join? Loved when you said that screws would find their happy place. Sometimes jobs just have to have a say! 😂. Looking forward to the under counter fridge tray. If you havent shot it yet could you show us type of rails/weighting and approx cost usd?

    • @timdillen
      @timdillen  Před 5 lety

      I keep looking at the backsplash and trying to get inspiration for something unique but not loud. It needs to tie in to the medical theme. The black line between the two tops bothered me so I decided to highlight it. The metal ties in with other trim around the kitchen area. I have been struggling with starting the fridge install. I want to have 2 slides. One for the fridge and then one next to it that will be a slide out pantry. This is going to be tricky so I have been doing a lot of thinking (procrastinating) about it. I think the first step will be combining the doors and then it will just flow into something cool. I will likely use the drawer slides like the counter top but they will be side mounted as mounting to the cabinet floor will be too difficult (I think). It would be easiest to just do one big slide but that would limit the pantry part as the fridge would block most of the shelves. As far as the rails, I need to go by Lowes and see what the bigger sizes are, it needs to come out quite a ways. In the mean time I have been modifying the sofa that finally got here. I also will be building an entertainment system (gadget garage, recharge station, storage) to house a 60" 4K TV which will also serve as computer monitor. Those are so much more fun to do but that darn fridge is taking up space on my floor!

    • @mishu3271
      @mishu3271 Před 5 lety +1

      PSC Camper Conversions ok howsabout the peel and stick subway type ss “ tiles” on sheets from Lowes etc. They look pretty cool once installed and easy to do. If in the future they get worn/dirty..easy to replace. You might be able to use elsewhere in the Mav to visually tie in the design. I continue to have no luck finding a reasonably priced (for value) class b here in Ontario that has the technology I need for my health. I just travelled in an Ambulance Wednesday night and in between being hooked up to every imaginable machine i was looking at the new designs...how silly is that? Duh...real time research! I think the last remnants of the possibility of building my own on Promaster chassis just zipped by me..damnation! Cant wait for sofa mods and cupboard...i myself am a pretty good Master of thinking (procrastinating) but I bet it works out well for both of us!

      @timdillen  Před 5 lety

      Sorry to hear of your ambulance trip. Did you happen to mention to the staff that it would make a great camper? I like the idea of the stick tiles. I have the ambulance desktop as gloss white and the swing sofa table I built is white gloss. I remember searching for a new project and how exciting it was but frustrating at the same time.

    • @timdillen
      @timdillen  Před 5 lety +1

      That's a good question! I get pretty tired after completing a project and finishing the video (demolition was just terrible). I take some time to just sit there and enjoy it but then my attention gets turned to another project that would be great to add to the ambulance and I start getting excited again. I am living in the MAV full-time now as the sofa is now installed and I am sleeping on it. I am living in my front yard as I still need to use the bathroom and shower and there is still a lot of projects that need to be done and my neighbors are used to my construction noises and can't see my messy construction site. I want to get the MAV properly prepared to withstand a harsh winter so living in it is the best way to find out where the weak points are. It's a wonderful hobby but if I was getting paid to do this for someone else it would not be as fun. It's like playing with Legos - I can make whatever I can imagine.

      Well thanks for all the ideas. A few of them in some form have made it into my 2002 Chevy Astro AWD I have turned into a camper van. I live in Colorado so there are plenty of places I like to go. I have up to 400 watts of solar. Any plans to put panels on the top of the MAV?

    • @timdillen
      @timdillen  Před 5 lety

      Yes! I already have one panel of 120 watts and a charge controller. I finally have solved all the water leaks from rain and I just hate the idea of putting anymore holes in the roof so just have been putting it off. I'm not very big on the tape mount and want something I am sure won't fly off. I also need to cut in a fantastic vent and will need to cut beams and roof - really hate that. Post some videos of your Astro - I subscribed!

    "Next time" and buddy, there is ALWAYS a next time. Take the measure fence off your table saw and use your table saw to cut your counter top. You raise your blade to cut through the curved back. CZcams it (to see it done). God gave you a wonderful gift. To be happy, no matter WHAT goes wrong. My Mom told me at 9 y/o, to be HAPPY and satisfied no matter where I was in life and I've found that advice to be priceless. Also pee before I get in the car to go anywhere !! :-D

    Or u could have made a notch between the counter and the drawer and made a slide that would've came out and saved yourself a countertop ( hope you understand the image that you're reading )

    • @timdillen
      @timdillen  Před 5 lety +1

      That was definitely a good option. I decided it would be cheaper to mess up the counter ($69) than the cabinet as I did not know if the project would work out.

    Maybe if you ever have a situation where you have a cut in the middle of the countertop again, reverse your measurements and put the cuts to the outside edges. So when you lay out your tops the factory edges will meet in the middle.

      Brad Ley When I intercept a unique idea like yours I analyze it's limitations in all applications. The only limitation I see is if you wanted that joint directly in the middle, if you mis-cut a 60/40 split you couldn't use the countertop, except on a smaller counter. Can you see any other limitations when you put the factory edges in the middle? Thanks for your considerations.
