  • This video takes a look at kits that are available to turn a standard bicycle into a motorized bicycle that can be done for $100 to $300, In part 1 I go over how the kit works, how to operate, advantages and accessories, in this video I take it for a road test, in part 3 I go over tips, mods and performance upgrades. This 3 part series is part of a larger series on personal transportation for campers (RV Van Car).

    I really liked the great data feedback you give for your ride with the speed chart and speedometer on screen. But by far the comments on screen were the best! They kept me laughing while I was watching boring data. As a good southern boy, I always rode my bike by "peddlin" too, so keep it up. Great video series. Covers a lot of great transportation options and truly tests them with accurate and objective information. Thanks.

      Heheheh! I have watched way too many videos where a guy just films riding on the bike for 15+ minutes. It is a bit torturous. After the first cut of the video I was pretty bored. Then I started watching what was going on in the background and had that moment of "that's kinda interesting." I think you will enjoy part 3 on the upgrades. I think there will be a part 4 as I now have the new exhaust on and need to put the new faster sprocket on. Thanks for posting this - made my day!

    Hey Tim, it's Jacob Satterfield from promotion. Loved your video can't wait to see you again!!

      Good to hear from you Jacob! Miss you, your bother and Mom. Hope you are all doing well. For now I’m looking after my Mom who is ill. I’m sure there will eventually be a need to come back to Murphy and see everyone again. Will be great! Glad you are enjoying the videos. Need to get back at making more.

    From a hobby/DIY perspective this is pretty cool.
    From a camper’s POV, this could be pretty annoying in the wrong hands.
    I’ve seen/heard these kits locally and the muffler aiming at the pavement is good for the rider but the sound carries surprisingly far in all directions.
    Recommend fingerless riding gloves to avoid handburgers, especially at those speeds. Cool video👍

      I have just put on a new exhaust system and it has brought the sound level down a bit and is a deeper less annoying sound. I would not be running this around a campground for fun but you could peddle to get out of the area and then hit the gas to get to a grocery store. Good tip on the gloves, I have some and need to wear them. I will need to make a part 4 to show the new exhaust.

      Have you tried using e85

    • @timdillen
      @timdillen  Před 5 lety +1

      I have not tried that - I need to do some research on that.

    I miss that sound and the range of a tank of gas. But not the breakdowns and maintenence. Went electric for reliability.

      I like the look of these engines. But that sound! One passed me yesterday, so cool and fun.... the smell ...hahahahaha. Not for me.

    • @timdillen
      @timdillen  Před 5 lety +3

      True. The gas does take some tinkering and the electric has very little maintenance.

    There are some air cooled no sweat padded riding gloves available. Haven't tried them (not currently riding), but thought they might reduce your risk factors. Just now noticed another viewer mentioned gloves too; we're thinking of comfort and safety. Take care.

    Good news! I finally snagged a Roadtrek class b van here. Lovely senior solo traveller who kept the rig immaculate. Has to go through some inspections and tires are toast so she is replacing with the tires I researched and spec’d with my advisors 👍👍. Should have it in my paws last week of July. Now where to go??? Younger son wants me to go to the far reaches of Western Canada to Hadai Gwaii. Holy, that would be the longest shakedown trip ever!!! How are you and mom doing?

    • @timdillen
      @timdillen  Před 5 lety

      That is absolutely fantastic news! I am so glad to hear you are doing better and even found the van you were hoping for. Be sure and post some videos of your conversion and adventures! Mom got some bad news yesterday, her cancer has started to grow again, the medication is not working. They are talking about another round of Chemo. She is a bit down about it but I'm here to encourage her and honor her wishes.

      PSC Camper Conversions Thanks! I think I’ll just creatively ignore doctors lack of specific advice about my conditions and future threats to my health. Geesh..no time to dilly dally (how old is that expression!). The pro and con about Roadtrek are that the more original the better the resale value. This one has one RT wardrobe cupboard mod and one custom pantry cupboard mod - both are excellent ergonomically for me. I will probably snag a 12v fridge because this model has the bar fridge under the counter. Pain in the butt. Do you still like your Dometic??? So sorry to hear about your Mom. Tough decisions ahead to make. Thoughts and prayers with you both.

    • @timdillen
      @timdillen  Před 5 lety

      The Dometic is still running strong. I think a compressor fridge is the best way to go. Just have to keep track of battery levels but if you have 2 house batteries you should be fine.

    I could really use that bike where I'm locared here in Virginia. All secondary and tertiary roads with most traffic under 40 mph. How far can you go on that half gallon gas tank?

    • @timdillen
      @timdillen  Před 5 lety +1

      If your area is pretty flat you could expect around 75 mpg (37 on a half gallon) using the stock sprocket. I will be putting on the smaller sprocket and better exhaust and have heard that will increase my mpg. Will have to try that out. The whole thing has been a very fun project and a great way to enjoy a pretty day.

    If your brakes squeak you need to "toe" the front of your pads inward.

  • @1951Roy
    @1951Roy Před 5 lety +2

    Thanks for sharing, what is the total weight of the bike now?

    • @timdillen
      @timdillen  Před 5 lety +1

      Good question. I don't have a scale to check it. I would estimate with a full take of gas that my bike weights around 45 pounds. If you lift property, it would not be hard to put on a bike rack of a car, might take 2 people if you have a high van rack as it is a bit hard to get a good hold of when lifting higher. Thanks for posting and for watching!
