- Mountaineering in the 1900s was a fast-paced, dangerous, but ever-changing sport. Men from all over the world would conjugate to one location, where they would risk their lives through deadly perils, just to have their names go down in history as the first-ever successful summit of a route or peak. Many outsiders looking in, read the newspapers in awe of climbers like Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. While those part of the community were in brutal, year-long battles against snow, ice, and rock that cost many people their lives.
Over the years, a few mountains became notorious due to a factor of reasons… size, difficulty, location, weather, you name it… but conquering one of these peaks meant your name would never be forgotten. Toni Kurz, a German mountain climber in the 1930s would be chasing the first summit on one of these peaks… the most famous rockwall in the world… the North face of the Eiger.. This is his story..

Yay a new video!! Maybe this is a strange comment but I’m very glad to have your channel to watch because it’s so clear you are a human being and not AI. I really appreciate your voice and writing. Thank you so much. Mountain disaster videos will always get my view
Thank you! I am happy you noticed as I have always struggled with fighting the AI channels. Made my day!
@@TerrorTwin@rodeo9837 is right, keep it up!
Nothing worse then thinking you found a cool video to watch based off the title and thumbnail just to hear a typical robot voice
What is worse, AI has no morals, no ethics at all. Inventing stories, lying, presenting it as fact - it just repulses me.
I try to boycott that crap wherever I can.
Bravo!! Excellent presentation!
This story has always given me nightmares.
One of the greatest of YT lore channels
Thank you!
I love your channel 💖🥰 Due to health reasons I can't do anything like this so it's a great way to still see the mountains
Philipp Stolz 2008 movie North Face (Nordwand) is an excellent depiction of Kurz's story, Benno Furman plays Kurz.
old German version is better
Rest in Peace
Picturing everyone conjugating verbs together 😆
Love your videos - excellent
Watched Archie’s archive documentary of this last night strangely enough !
Ha good timing!
Horrific
That was heartbreaking
This happened in summertime (July). I wonder how much snow there really was on the North Face of the Eiger at this time. Nowadays, in July, it's usually not that much, looking from below. I guess there will be nothing or almost nothing left in a few decades, if not earlier.
:10 you don't mean "conjugate" -- that's something dirty you do with verbs. You mean "congregate" (in) one location.
he looks like speaking as a native but not
2:09 Don't think that's the Eiger. It's the Goûter Route up Mont Blanc. Prone to fairly random dangerous rock falls. It got shut down one season.
Very sad..
That was terrible omg i cant imagine the horror!!!!!!!
0:08 conjugate to one location? > I think you mean congregate
Hahahahaha my husband and I are cracking up! I'm mean, maybe they were playing words games together too....
😂😂😂😂
Also, I hopped on to make this comment and found yours. Cheers my dude!
he looks like speaking as a native but not
We that climb mountains are not persuaded by disasters for some reason
How sad. 😢
Berchtesgaden is pronounced. Bear (British accent) - German throat K (imitate the sound of a static radio) - tess (like test without the last T. - gaden (simple American pronounced. B - air - static radio throat - tess - gaden.
And?
Okay...so how do you pronounce "we don't care".
Now do "Supercilious"
@@heisenhammerno need to be rude you don't speak for everyone.
We care and find the pronouncation fascinating
Thank you for a difficult pronunciation perfectly explained.
As a young Girl, l used to go skiing a lot up there.........
Yes there is a death zone each mountain can have 1. varies in danger not just thin air but challenging decent
Read The White Spider for the early history of the Eiger.
Sad
Strange fruit hanging on the mountain.
Believe it or not your mountain compilations make me want to climb.
I know, Berchtesgaden is a very difficult word for non- German speakers, but since this is a human speaker and not AI I would at least have wished for a serious try without swapping letters.
The Eiger sanctioned them.
Great movie 😉
*congregate, not conjugate
he looks like speaking as a native but not
god damnit this zesty mfk got SHREKT. RIP to Tony he was a real one
:35ish no, not "due to a factor of reasons". maybe "due to a *number* of reasons".
Or "a number of factors"
Or "a number of factors"
he looks like speaking as a native but not
The German pronunciations killed you, didn't they? ✌️😂
he looks like speaking as a native but not
Crap. Random string of clips.
You clearly have a problem with this channel - I've seen your comments on his other videos - so why are you watching? The clips are great!! His voice is real - not AI. But wait - keep it up because all comments help the channel grow. It's all about the algorithm.
did he say men would conjugate together in one location? 🤔 like they got together and ran through verb endings?
you get amazing content like this for free and you feel the need to nitpick minor word errors? you knew what he meant.
Am I supposed to be sorry?lol.
Wow sooo edgy!🤡
Nobody expects you to do anything. Some people always find a way to make things about themselves.
1:30 why do you call this "one of the most enigmatic"? It's not enigmatic, it's right there. Forbidding, formidable, etc: there's a ton of words that would work, but enigmatic is not one.
he looks like speaking as a native but not
@@eliotness4029wtf are you saying?!? You left this stupid comment everywhere and it makes no sense ANYWHERE
Dude you need an editor or something. You have way too many grammar/semantic/pronunciation errors!
"Like most deadly mountains, climbers..." This is ungrammatical, because you are saying climbers are like most deadly mountains, which you don't mean.
Hahahaha no way. It’s hilarious how you try to sneak in the fact that they were nazis and move on as quickly as possible lol
