The History of K2’s Most DANGEROUS Route | 2004 Magic Line Expedition

  • There is a route on K2 that was considered to be the most difficult climb on the savage mountain for over 25 years….and some of the most accomplished climbers from the 1980’s and 90’s refer to it “as the most difficult route in all the Himalaya and Karakoram”. This path pops up constantly throughout the history of K2….in some of the deadliest years of the mountain…In 2004, one man was successful in completing the climb, becoming only the second expedition to accomplish the feat, but it came at a steep price…and ends in tragedy…This is K2’ Magic Line….This is the story of Jordi Corominas…

    Jerzy kukuczka climbed the south face with a single partner. Probably one of the most dangerous and under reported climbs ever. And his partner was killed in a fall on the way down. That guys climbs are amazing

    Just to be respectful to Jerzy and Tad -The Magic line is absolutely NOT the most dangerous or demanding line -It's the Central Rib -AKA Polish Line that has this title and it isn't even debatable.

    I cannot fathom what drives people to spend tens of thousands of dollars to endanger their lives to go to the top of an unforgiving, brutal mountain. Is it really worth your very life? And those who have survived, but lost fingers and toes, limbs and noses...is it really worth it? I don't get it. All my life I've had to survive. Preservation of life is everything. I can't see throwing my life away for a mountain. Such a waste.

      @@alpschild Completely unstable snow and ice formations on a scale far beyond the Kangshung Face of Everest. A death trap. A couple of years ago, there was a climber who went around to have a look and see about climbing it but he said it would be impossible. I'm always watching the blogs for news of an attempt. Cheers

    • @JW-cm2er
      @JW-cm2er Před 2 měsíci

      @@rhobot75Any potential climb on the east face of K2 would have to be done in the winter, as the the added cold would actually help make the otherwise extremely unstable snow and ice formations be relatively more stable.

    These guys decided to climb K2 the difficult way. Was it more scenic that way? Were there Pakistani mountain beauties handing out free food and massages by going this way? What complete rubbish.
    Imagine if you ran a business this way. I'm going to find the hardest possible way to make money. I can make money selling light bulbs or encyclopedias door-to-door, but instead I'm going to make money by selling cigarette butts to homeless people. When I finally make $100, I will declare myself the hero. NO.

      With people like you we would've never circumnavigated the Earth by sea. Reached the Poles, the summit of the 14 8,000m peaks, explored the depths of the Marianas Trench or ventured out into space.
      Thankfully there are people who understand the concept of 'Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants". Through discovery and exploration we learn, sometimes tragically to our cost, how to achieve new goals. These people achieved something whilst you've just confirmed what a dull, ignorant shoe gazing, facetious jobsworth you are!

      I’m aware you will never accomplish any sort of human achievement as you’re a lowest common denominator type person but you probably shouldn’t talk about those who do accomplish things because you are currently living at the present benefit of that human achievement.
