Thank you so much for watching! Remember to support the Imperials by joining the Patreon! ( www.patreon.com/pelvicgaming ) Also! I'm currently taking suggestions for the next TOP 5 video on Patreon! Thank you all for your support and happy (late) new year!! I will have one more video coming out - my 2021 PELVIC GAMING wrap up video then I'll be going on break. Sorry I've been late on videos - working retail was a lot BUT I have a new and MUCH BETTER job now!
Also still playing DQ11. Been kinda playing it on and off. ^^;
SMT 5 has to be on the best of 2021. While it's not a big step forward for the franchise, it's still one of the best JRPGs of the year.
Hey lady pelvic! I just subscribed to your channel! I've been watching your DQ reviews and looking at other RPGs to get into. Sent you an ig DM. Be sure to check it! Thanks!
Retail and fast food jobs are a lot like even when you go home your still thinking about the job and what tomorrow at work is going to be like 😅😪😔😬..I like your charisma in your reviews I watched I would actually be interested in you doing RE2 🙃 it has RPG elements in it 😜. If you do you and Claire vid suggesting you'll think about it I'll hit you on Ig and send you 5 months of overlord
@@pathway24 I totally respect the fact that Lady Pelvic ACTUALLY PLAYS the games she reviews. She knows what she's talking about, and the nit picks show that she does spend the time with them. Nothing ticks me off like a reviewer that you can tell either read other people's reviews or spent less than 5 hours with a game before reviewing it. Lady Pelvic put almost 200 hours into her Xenoblade Chronicles 2 review, and all her complaints were the exact same as mine, except for the the thong complaints. Mine fit perfectly and are comfortable. Lady Pelvic suffers for her audience, and is a hero for it! 😃👍
I kept thinking to myself while watching this "This music sounds like Final Fantasy Tactics". Then I check in to it and find out Hitoshi Sakimoto did the music. It's really great from what I hear in the video!
Ayy big fan man. Lookin forward to the next final fantasy tactics episode
Valkyria Chronicles 4 was my first of the series and it caught my heart instantly, I loved the artstyle and the gameplay was challenging and satisfying. Felt like playing Chess on a War map.
That was some stellar roleplaying.
That recurring gag throughout the video got me each time lol
Oh man this makes me want to replay VC4 again, I had a great time with this one! The only issue I have with this game and the series in general is that there is really only 1-2 ways to A-rank each map, and later on there's no way that will happen naturally when you don't know what surprises will happen as the turns roll forward. I found it easier to just look at a guide because I didn't want to play every map multiple times since they take a while. I'm sure this isn't an issue for non-perfectionists though that just want to beat each mission, just crazy people like me.
I was excited when Valkyria Chronicles was announced for the west. I do like the aesthestic with the white outlines & the lines for the shading.
The production is awesome, you're naturally HILARIOUS but more importantly the review is solid & detailed every aspect of the game. You rule Lady Pelvic ! 👍🏿
You getting interrupted with those envelopes is too funny lol
The skits got a few chuckles from me.
RAZ 4 LIFE!
Glad all the units finally were not overpowered by the scouts this time around. :)
Wait 5 days ago!? Video came out today the 7th; CZcams!!!
One minor thing I noticed. Its Valkyria Chronicles 1, 3, and 4 that take place at the same time. 2 takes place a couple of years later during a Gallian civil war sparked by the racism issues of the setting.
I love the franchise but of the three main series games I've played (1, 2, and 4) 2 is my favorite because I like that it lets me select the class of the protagonist. From what I've read 3 lets you change the classes of all or most of your party members, which would have led to lots of fun possibilities but unfortunately Sega decided to be jerks and not release 3 in the US I believe due to absurd paranoia about piracy.
They dont released VC3 on West because PSP in 2011 was dead platform in West, and VC2 sold like shit.
@@nr2676 totally playable on emulator tho. Definitely recommend.
I played parts of the first VC. Always wanted to try it out again. Awesome review as always.
I always enjoy when you make skits, it really brings out the video. They make me laugh, I can tell you enjoy making them.
Awww thank you.
Fantastic work.
Glad I was there to see it.
Really enjoyed the video, great job.
Great review! May give this series a try
This was the WW2 Fire Emblem I never knew I wanted. With Advance Wars abandoning the serious tone of Days of Ruins Valkyria Chronicles is my fav Tactic JRPG
This game was by far my favorite VC (I played 2&3 on emulators) and I played 100+ hours. I adored the cast and story and the gameplay has become the best of the series. Still tons lf ways to break the game but it’s part of the fun to me!
3:34
Federation leader: We're losing this war anyone has a idea on how to turn the tide
General 1: Well we can start by
General 2: WE GO STRAIGHT TO THEIR CAPITAL AND CAPTURE IT!
General 3: (pulls put map and points to where the Imperial capital is) You mean the capital that's like almost 2/3s of the way in their country?
General 2: YES!
General 3: You think our army is gonna even make it their
General 1: Yeah man we're already out numbered and out gun. Like half of out troops is gonna die getting there
General 2: It's a sacrifice that am willing to pay
If there’s one thing we learned from the VC games, it’s *DONT FUCK WITH GALLIANS*
I played VC 1, 2, and 4. 2 had better classes and a lot more to do, but was pretty primitive, being on the PSP, and was focused almost entirely on infantry. Creating armored melee classes and musicians was neat though.
While my first game in the series was VC2 I also came to love the other games. My personal favourite story-wise may still be the third one but that might be me not finishing VC4 yet. The gameplay loop is incredibly rewarding, seeing the squad grow and seeing these little inter-connected stories is just awesome, the mission goal variety is pretty high, the class system invites experimentation and while some characters are stronger than others, (almost) none of them is truly useless.
This may have well been the final push I needed to actually go back and finish VC4 once I have some free time!
Would love a VC3 remake with VC4 gameplay.
I enjoyed this. It was entertaining. VC games aren’t my type of JRPGs but I did appreciate this review. I bet you were happy to get out of that dress after your recording was over.
I really love VC4 story/characters/ upgrade from 1 but I still have a special place in my heart for 1 the foundation of the series and it’s difficulty
So this video came out 5 days ago, but CZcams just now gave me the sub notification. CZcams wilding.
Was it previously patreon only with a direct link and otherwise hidden?
@@redsands1001 it probably was most likely patreon exclusive for awhile which would expian it.
It was previously on Patreon first. YT didn't fuck up this time!
@@PelvicGaming Ahh ok. 👍
How u behave the 3th time is such a mood and the 4th time toooooo lmfao🤣🤣🤣👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Oml pel you out did your self with this one I love it XD
Yes! This was worth the wait! Anytime someone talks about Valkyria Chronicles is a great day which means it hardly happens
Thanks for the vid
My pleasure! ^_^
Well I'd be damned if it isn't Pelvic stepping up the editing game in both manipulating the audio and the video production quality. I'm living for this!
Great job Lady Els-- uh I mean, Lady Pelvic.
lol I told myself nobody would know this was an Elsa costume. I swear, you type in 'ice witch' and this is all ya get haha Also thank you for the kind words.
Gave up on vc1 since their wasnt a difficultly mode . Glad to know this one is different
Next to your suikoden review love that acting!
Might have to give the first game a go again. I'm starting to get more of an interest in these strategy jrpgs.
Queen I was not ready for the Blue Dress and Hat Look! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
queen of reviews and acting purr
I liked how you explained the game in high detail . This review would be perfect for people who want all the facts abiut the game but i didnt hear much of if you actually liked the game. Was it fun to play? Did you feel like the story was fulfilling? Just needed a more personal feel.
Thanks for the review of both VC one and 4,I been thinking about getting one of them but I'm a chronological addict unless I can absolutely skip the first game and go to 4 since as an adult and soon to be father not gonna have as much free time as I once did. lol
That note gag made me lol harder every damn time 💀💀💀💀 Legit my fav review show on youtube
It's a fantastic game, love the original and this one but less said about Revolutions
Hey VC1,3 and 4 happen at the same time and VC2 takes place 3 years later.
You said 1,2 and 4 happened at the same time.
DAMNIT my mistake! I wrote it down wrong in my script. Cause I remember googling this and using the wiki Fandom which literally says 1,3 and 4.
love the artstyle for the game
You should play 3. No one ever talks about it. And it's fantastic.
I am very happy my money is being used to fund these comedy skits!
Haha thank YOU for your support! I wanna do more skits, personally!
*Blows kiss to my gorgeous queen*
Neku-chan I'm such a fan😍❤️😭😭😭
Also, you didn't mention the baddest lancer in the game! Jean Matrix is the toughest, strongest lancer in the series! She could probably win the war by herself if her movement was better!
Gertrude is my fav lancer.
Jean's defense is crazy. She's like a tank.
If you didn't know, she's Arnold Schwarzenegger's character from the movie Commando, John Matrix.
Epic doo!
I’ve had this one in my steam library forever. It looks cool, but I don’t know if I’ll ever get to it with my backlog.
Edit: Loved the character you played!
I feel this is the same comment I leave almost every video, but I need to still play this game :3
I’ve always heard great things and this really solidifies my future choice.
I do suck at these kinda strategy games. I avoid them like covid. But always wanted to get into them. They are just extra slow for me unlike action games where I can quickly jump on your mistakes. These just exploit my own mistakes quite often lol. Im going to try this game again and force myself through it.
Glad you posted this cause i fell off this game when i got BOTW and totally forgot about it.
Triple like
Great game, I already really liked the first game but here the small gameplay improvements are very notorious for the overall experience, and for the rest it has everything that made the original great, and even the Switch port is one of the best ones yet, really great even in handheld mode. The story and characters overall I thought were not as good as the first game, but they were still solid.
The only think I didn't like was the brother of a certain character, one of the worst characters I have seen.
Yeah it was one of those...if you guys just talked it out.. like.. all this shit could have been avoided. Don't worry I didn't buy it either.
Video Exceeds Expectations! Also thanks for a video on Valkyria. The game kind of lost love after the PSPs went out of favour.
The games are great, but I really wish we'd see more stuff AFTER the 4 games.
And with some of those smaller Nations on the map like.........Did I see a country called Clan Sneek?
Show me those weirdos.
Or Hell, how about playing as a Secessionist Group in the Empire after the games?
That'd be radical.
VC2 takes place after the rest. But... It's... A meh experience. A very very meh experience. Storywise. Interesting set up though. Hopefully they can try in the future again but I do really like the "different povs of the same war" approach
@@MagillanicaLouM 2 is easily the weakest despite being the only one to do anything different.
The School Setting did not do it any favors either.
I thought you were about to burst into song with your version of Let It Go.
Thank you for not doing that.
i always wish it has real life countries rest everything same
I bought it on sale cuz booty. It worked for Nier so I figured it applied for all gamed.
try Dusk on switch. Please
I remember trying to demo and kinda immediately being put-of by the cast, I feel like the first game had a more solid group of people. Maybe that's just nostalgia though lol I haven't played it in like 5 -7 years. They often go on sale together on the PSN and eShop so maybe I'll pick both up sometime
I thought this was a game in the Valkyrie Profile series. 😐
"Before I subject you to cruel and unusual punishment."
me: If it's pelvic arf arf arf arf~
5th gamrerrewr WHERE!?!?
Huh?
@@PelvicGaming I want them to make VC 5. I just replayed this game for the first time since Oct 2018.
I'm worried SEGA didn't consider it's one million sales as "Successful enough". It's been almost five years, and still silence.
I'm a big fan of this game and Lady Pelvic, but this review was poorly done. Despite excellent production values, the review failed to answer two basic questions: did Lady Pelvic like the game and does she recommend it?
I liked it, and I'd recommend it if you liked the first- that said I like the first more.
My experience playing this game; enemy grenadiers suck. Ally grenadiers rock. Kai has a great ass.
Also it's not officially available in English, but Valkyria Chronicles 3 has the best story and characters imo, hopefully it gets released here officially some day
If that's "Sucide squad" then idk if my heart can take it...
@@PelvicGaming The premise is kind of like that, now that i stop to think about it lol
The translation patch is very well made and while I prefered 4 it’s true that 3 has a great cast and story too. 2 is the worst one, soooo muuuuch grrrriindddiing for parts arrrrgh and while the school idea isnt awful it just doesnt compare to 1-3-4
@@YoshMaster agreed. I like most of the main character's of 2 but I think the structure and pacing of it all is whacked the heck out. I can see why after that they opted to stick with taking place during EW2 again
I find you very attractive.
Time you finished the Suikoden series Lady Pelvic. Five is the 2nd best one of the lot.
Valkyria chronicles is a franchise I always wanted to like more than I actually liked.
The gameplay looks great! Mostly methodical, but being good at the gameplay just might pull you out of the fire. The artstyle is great, too; Washed out, watercolor anime aesthetic.
... but then it keeps leaning too far into animu territory. Some waist length twintails, some emotional moments ruined by awkward writing, some miniskirts and thigh-highs.
I think the moment that most ruined the franchise for me was a cutscene in the first hour of the very first game. The empire is razing the hometown, and break into the main character's house where his adopted sister is home alone... but they just find her standing there (not even trying to hide or take cover), and just hold her at gunpoint when their orders were clearly to shoot anything that moves. She then CARTWHEELS AWAY, to grab a hidden gun and points it at the home invaders, but doesn't shoot... AND NEITHER DO THE SOLDIERS. With a gun trained on them, and orders to kill, they still just stand there. I couldn't take it seriously from then-on.
I wanted a war-strategy game with an anime paintjob, instead I got an anime game with a dusting of ww2 flavor.
Everytime I buy a game you do a review on it. I paid $14.99 for my copy. Im probaby never going to finish it.
glory to the empire
Where is Valkyria Chronicles 5 SEGA ??? Total silence, after VC4 release. It's a 4 years and still nothing ...
I loved vc4, but that last mission was such utter bullshit that Ive never finished it
It was a struggle for sure but after 8 turns i finally beat the damn thing.
U can cheese that boss, and win in 2 turns with anti-armor granadiers + blast radius boost (order)
I know nothing about this franchise but as a European it’s very funny how its world makes no attempt to be inventive, the countries are called Europe and the cities are named after cities in Europe
Kinda sucks that you still play as gallians though
Such a shame for a mostly-solid game to have a TERRIBLE final boss. Who thought it was a good idea to have the final boss being so hard-countered by placing down a few Grenadiers???
Hm. I personally think 4 is weaker then one. There are just a lot of things I did not like in 4. The main cast out side of Kai and Raz are awful. Even Raz is weak. The dlc that puts squad E and the 7s together shows just how weak the main cast is.
Oh I'll take the first game over this any day. But I did enjoy this game. Raz my real one.
I prefered the gameplay and story of 4 (I didn’t really like the valkyria angle of the 1st one) and I love the cast but I agree 1 had an overall stronger cast. Kai and Raz can still almost make it up just by being so awesome haha
@@PelvicGaming >Lady Pelvic replies< "Me: I was chosen"
I enjoy this game my self, so much so I went and beat it with out leveling/upgrading anything. I only say Raz is weak because in the DLCs, they compare Squad E and the 7s and it sours the main cast; because you realize not just the parallels between casts; but also that all the main cast in Squid E are also Gallians; save for the one you get later on. So it really felt like to me, they just tried to remake one; but add just enough to hope it is difference enough.
The back half of the game, they become more their own and Raz is really the badass he proclaims to be. But it's the getting there that just makes me feel like he is a more annoying early Rosie; who never has that redeeming ark to make him a more mature person. He just has that heroic moment that really fits with who he is; just the getting there that hurts. But, we all have our own tastes.
Main cast aside, the villain's in this game, are all golden. There is not a single let down in the imperial ranks; and how dare you. HOW DARE YOU not talk about Klaus out side of his tank. Klaus is my favorite out of all 3 of the localized games.
@@YoshMaster Sure, the game play of 4 is way more refined, but that is not fair compresence. Go compare Metroid on the NES to Dreed, one of those things is very old one of them is not. Not saying you are wrong, Just more that it is expected. Story wise; it is interesting, until you realize one tiny, small throw away detail that had no reason to be apart of the story but is a major plot point.... The main cast are all Gallians... And they had to be Gallians... Because... Gallia is home to monster solders? That killed the plot for me in the early parts of the game. "What if Squad E stayed in Gallia and helped protect it." You'd have two power house squads that would and can beat back valkyria. Making the stakes in one, lessen. Because who cares if the 7s fail. There is another nearly as strong group, kicking imp butt.
While awesome; Kai and Raz out side of their bubble of being a-fing-dorable couple; are not great. Raz is just Rosie but more stand offish and male, and doesn't have the racism reedition arc to get more mature. Kai is all about the bread so much so, they even make it a point in the main story and not just the DLC with the 7s. She is just Raz's Alicia. Granted the dynamic of the two are hundred fold better then Alicia and Welkin. But Alicia and Welkin are also interesting in their own way; on their own, because they are not childhood friends. Their love dynamic feels more awkward and real; unlike Raz and Kai which feels almost forced; and would feel that way if written wrong.
Good god, I can't begin to describe how much I despised this game.
Ok, first of all, the story, this has never been VC strongest suite, but this makes the original look like the most thrilling narrative by comparison. The twists and main characters (both villains and protagonists) were among the worst I've seen in a considerable long time. Hated Claude constant motivational speech and growth that we're just meant to believe happened off screen, Raz being a complete ass, Riley's barebones tsundere tropes, Minerva simply being a bitch and
*spoilers* Kai's incredibly stupid double agent plot point *end spoilers*
The antagonists fare no better, they're not the fun to hate sort of guys or good sort of despicable, just supper annoying characters I wanted to see off the screen asap, especially Crimaria or whatever she was called, felt like a never ending pity party.
It's a shame, because I do feel the secondary characters are handled a lot better than in the first game, as the addition of side chapters where they can get to show a bit more backstory and character instead of relying on a biography page that takes forever to be updated really lets them shine a lot more.
I'm also a bit sick of the timeframe of the games being so close to eachother and the retcons to the original events, can we like, pull a FF or DQ and keep a similar setting and motif without carrying on the same story? It feels like there's not much more to see from Europa by now, and Valkyrias certainly have become a lot less significant with how many of them it turns out there still are, Faldio must feel like a dumbass right now.
The gameplay doesn't fare much better in my book due to the games difficulty philosophy of "gotcha" moments. So many chapters where you start moving and past a trigger point a ridiculously overpowered enemy setup changes the whole battlefield where you might as well just restart the whole thing if you weren't save scumming at every action, particularly at its worst with Crimarias stupid as hell sniping crystal missiles. Not to say the original didn't have moments like this (most who played it likely remember how unbearable chapter 7 is), but whereas that felt like a rarity there, it feels like a constant here. I'm also not too impressed by overall improvements as a whole, for a more "proper" sequel (if only due to being on consoles once again), I don't find any of the additions to make it feel significantly more polished or refined than the original.
I wouldn't be surprised if this is the death of the franchise tbh, between the psp games underperforming, the failed spinoff and this game tanking pretty bad on release from what I remember reading, I'd be surprised if Sega funds another one anytime soon.
This one hit a million copies when it went multiplatform. It's even mentioned on the ps4 store page so they're clearly proud of it so definitely expect more lol. As for my thoughts, I agree with some of your points disagree with others. Ultimately though, I have a great time with this and the first (fuck chapter 7 though I get Selvaria is a fan favorite and I was digging her myself but that battle alone flipped my like for her, I know it's not fair but AAAAGGGGJHHH). But yeah, series is cool still imo. 3 has my favorite cast overall. Though I guess I'm not one to be affected by a long history with the first game, as it's technically the last one I experienced of the main 4, so I just vibe with it all. Except 2, that story was whack. I like some of the characters individually, but the overarching thing was great sequel idea, oddly married with high school slice of life plot. Not that it couldn't work but the structure felt weird, nothing was happening then suddenly everything was
1 & 4 ended up selling tremendously well (the steam release of 1 went crazy good) and I absolutely adore 4 so sadly for you, the series would probably continue in the same direction. I agree about needing to move on in the timeline though..
duly noted, I'm surprised I don't remember SEGA ever highlighting that on twitter or something, I just remember the initial sales in Japan being pretty bad.
@@nunchuk28 Yeah the sales were slow at first in Japan and modest in the Americas (from what I could see but real numbers are so hard to get nowadays with digital sales) and to be fair a lot of the sales came later with dropped prices and sales. So it’s still not a huge series but Sega can’t really start ignoring million selling series..
I really wish I could have been able to grasp myself into at least playing one of the Valkyria Games. Maybe becuase it doesn't compare to Valkyrie Profile Lenneth and Silmeria. Which has no relations what so ever. I guess I'm just old school Rpg Jrpg ❤
