    Nice work, I’m still running original ttop seals on my 85 Iroc. They leak slightly in one area only when I wash the car. But when I drive in the rain (rarely) I don’t notice any leaks. I’ll leave them alone for now. Btw, on my Lt L86 in my 67 c10 I had a slow sluggish crank as well and occasional long crank no start issues. Turns out the battery was 10 years old. I replaced it with a new yellow top Optima 750 CCA and she now turns over very quickly and I’ve had ZERO long crank no starts since replacing it in December. Keep those 3rd gen videos coming!

    Cut the top 2 corners off your old weather stripping and use them as a mold. Leave them in until adhesive sets up. Lightly oil the old corners so the adhesive does not stick to them when removing. You can do this with any bend using the old weather stripping. Make sure area is clean. A good idea is to warm up the area before loading cavities with adhesive to help the initial flow. Also use a piece of vacuum hose to use on the end of adhesive tube so you can pump filler in deeper.

    The T-Tops lock to prevent them from being opened while driving. The handle is located where most cars "oh crap" handle is, and more than one have gone for a flight because a passenger grabbed the handle.
    The back corner of the window is probably best solved by shimming the back side of the seal vs putting adhesive on the seal face. I stuffed Styrofoam under my factory seals in spots no help them meet up. You can also move the felt guides along with the other adjustments to help push the glass to the body, closing that gap.
    My 89 has factory seals still no rust that you can see peaking under them. The only time they leak is if you hit them from the side with a pressure washer.
    One note on the outer beltline window sweeps factory used hex head screws on those, replace them with button head screws or your glass top edge will eventually chip on the screw. My driver side has a chip on the top due to this (it's been there for 24 years)

    Excellent work as usual. I wound up going through this twice (first set of seals were subpar) and followed most of the same steps you did, just not as well executed as in this video. • @shawnchadwick4943

    Nice job on the T-Tops! I have not found a good video on doing the weather strips until you did this one! I replaced my weather stripping but did not do the heavy sealing along the back of the bar and it is leaking during heavy rain from the rear bar and down through the screw holes and on to the rear seat. So I’ll use your video to help seal that area better. I still have small drops on the drivers t-top where the weather strips meet at the A-pillar and also at the B-pillar. Seems that depending on how I put the tops on determines the leak. If anyone has advice on what to do there, I’m all ears. Great job Lsxmatt.

    • @lsXmatt
      @lsXmatt  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Did you seal up behind the weatherstripping with sealant at the a and b pillars? If not it will come in under that area by that void. Depending on how you position the t top could stop the leak intermittently if it squishes the seal against the body just right.

    Dilemma? I have a 1985 Trans Am that has been sitting in my yard for over 20yrs . It has T-tops as well, I can only imagine how bad of shape mines in. This looks like a very complicated process.

I like both cars a lot, but can’t decide on which one to restore the Trans Am was my first car T-top but after watching this video, it makes me think maybe the Camaro would be better to restore, and it also has less rust in the car
    T-top cars are wonderful when they don’t leak but what I’ve learned about these 3rd Gen F bodies is that the T-topped cars are structurally weaker and can’t accommodate a very powerful engine without twisting the body all up
