  • I hate this thing. I really do. But at the same time I love it. This Escalade fought me every step of the way trying to get the engine back together. From missing bolts, seized up parts that WERE WORKING when removed, it took all I had to finally get this Caddy back on the road, just for it to break down again. Will it run and STAY driving? Find out above!

My buddy’s grandfather had a 2009 Chevy Silverado with the 5.3L. He had the heads redone some years ago and all of a sudden he developed a tick and a skip on the right bank. So I pulled the head on it, thinking it was a lifter as well. Well, lo and behold, when I removed the head and turned it over, one of the valve seats was cocked sideways. So pulled the other head off and took them to the shop that had done the heads previously and the redid them again at no costs.

Matt, so glad I found this series. I just found me a 2010 Escalade ESV with 156K very similar to yours. And I know nothing about Cadillacs. First time owner. but I wanted that 6.2L 6L80 platform for a mild RV, trailer hauler. I plan to do similar upgrades and repairs. this series is so very helpful for me to understand some of the issues I know and may not know about this unit.

I’ve seen that on some of the older dodge 3.7 and 4.7 heads before. I’ve had one in the shop that would miss for awhile then occasionally the spring pressure would pull the seat back up to where it would stop missing for a bit until it fell again.

Another great video Matt! We all have those "shouldn't be working on cars today" days.. Unfortunately, sometimes, they happen for more than one day in a week. Lol. Hopefully that K & N filter is a dry one, the oiled filters can cause MAF problems with oil polluting them. I'm jealous as hell of your Esky! That thing is beautiful! I just bought my daughter an '04 Tahoe, and to meet my budget, it's a pretty rough one. 300+k... but hopefully it will last her a while with some upkeep and maintenance. The GMT800 (lazyboy) seats are definitely superior to the GMT900 cardboard. Keep up the great work!

Gen 3 truck blocks 99-03 have shorter bolts on the outside 2 in the middle. The gen4 blocks and the transitional ones that are 04-06 that have the gen4 rods and pistons have all of the big bolts the same size. Its a crapshoot on some of those blocks though. Bummer on not blowing out the holes, its an important step, I always run a thread chaser as well... The rectangle port heads have the offset intake rockers and the cathedral ports have all straight. Also, the coil packs determine the plug wire lengths, the round ones are shorter and need longer plug wires and which ones you have are determined by which shipment they got... It looks like your escalade didn't have the tow package or desert cooler aux cooler and someone added the one cooler and didn't spring for new oem lines to the back it looks like the didn't know what they were doing on the install but if you use the right hose and put the clips in your good.

Hey Matt, I’m not trying to be like rude or nothing but it doesn’t deserve the hackery. That was done. Them damn trans cooler lines. Been there done that. Hackery is why shit junk failed. I say you do junk, you deserves junk. Correct trans cooler lines on there would be better. Nothing lasts forever and it’s not its fault it was taken care of like shit.

It’s from Topdon, I did a review of it in the first escalade video. I believe it’s linked there as well.

@@lsXmatt ever had a torsion bar chevy that had an uneven bounce going over bigger bumps. Went through and changed upper and lower control arms because of bad bushings and ball joints. Also did pitman arm, idle arm and bracket, inner and outer tie rods because of a lack of maintenance from previous owner. Thought that would get rid of the uneven bounce. But it's still there.

@@Mr69abody huh thats weird I don’t know. Stupid question but are both torsion bars even? Like ride height at both front fenders to the ground?

@@lsXmatt they aren't mine definitely has the GMT800 lean. I've swapped bars and springs I got from a bone yard. But still leans. I have the fronts adjusted as much as I can to get them even but it doesn't really matter. I'm going to try shocks. Switching from the cheap autozone units to bilstein. I'm going to try disconnecting the sway bar next chance to see if that causes a change. It's just driving me nuts. Lol
