Well hello everyone and happy Wednesday! Where is Christian?! Where did he go?! Today a very lonely Michael sits down and chats his life away. What subjects does he go over? Well only three, but three great ones if I may say myself. First we start off with some JLC action, then we move on over to Ming, a watch brand that isn't talked about a ton but nevertheless has some absolutely stunning pieces.
Finally though we talk Tudor and their new Pelagos FDX Marine Nationale watch. One for Tudor's history books! How does it rival the black bay? What about the original Pelagos? Let us know!
Are you interested in Rolex? Omega? Grand Seiko? Tudor? You've come to the right spot!

Listen, I love the lines of a vintage Rolex way more than a modern one, but to say that modern rolexes are less "utilitarian" because of their more "luxurious" design is not really scientific. In my opinion, a modern rolex submariner is MORE heavy duty and utilitarian than a vintage one. Why? Simply because its made to modern tolerances with more modern technology. If I had to take a watch to war without worrying about price, id take a modern Tudor or Rolex over a NOS vintage model any day.

It's a dive watch, a tool watch, and it's supposed to be clearly visible on the wrist underwater. I have the Pelagos with the bracelet and it wears just fine on my 6.5" wrist. For a Dive watch 38 mm is pointless as the count down bezel takes up too much of the dial space, 40mm to 41mm is perfect, you just need lug to lug length that a no bigger than 48mm for it to fit your tiny wrist. The extra functionality is only of use to the Navy guys. (Theres lots more to this) But, as a hobby diver we want a quick back up reference to measure elapsed time, as the training sez. Ironically the tooliest tool watch they do will be v unlikely to go underwater, cos the last thing any guy on his three week annual vacation needs is an extra confusing detail. Fucking annoying if you ask me and an option or spare bezel insert with a bit of marketing bumf to explain and add coolness woulda been clever

I wish watch reviewers could do their homework before talking about any watch but I understand it is unrealistic.
Tudor Pelagos owners have been reporting issues with the lume falling out of the bezel for years but I am not seeing any luxury watch related channel on CZcams talking about. It is very disappointing.
I am wondering if this new Pelagos FXD is having the same problem. More and more the comment section of these channels is becoming a better source of information than the videos themselves.

Why are the numbers on the bezel starting at 50? Countdown?

Why are the numbers on the Pelagos bezel in the opposite order to usual???

I guess the French Navy took one look at this and thought "Why have we spent billions of euros on developing bullet proof wrist worn computers that can calculate anything in a second when Tudor had the solution all along" 😁
