If you thought the Orient Bambino was too boring in the last episode, here comes a stellar panda chronograph for the same price as a moonswatch, and it's made of metal ;)
FYI: SB Foot Tanning is actually one of (if not the) best quality leather suppliers in the United States, they also supply Red Wing Shoes with all their leather. For $200, kinda crazy they went that far with making sure even their leather bracelet was that high of quality
I sadly cannot agree. Sure there are some great looking models, including the collaborations and their retro reissues. But as a Timex fan, I have had faulty or dead Timex’s for the last four years. The last one I bought was a Falcon Eye in green. The dial had a hair on it, and a huge scratch. The Marlin I bought was dead upon arrival. And the last three Mk1 models I bought were riddled with issues that required warranty replacements. In the end I received a refund.
Being a watch collector but not a watch snob, I have three Timex watches in my collection. My favorite is the Waterbury Chronograph. I like the minimalist dial somewhat characteristic of a Junghans Chronograph.
The first watch I bought was a timex southview, that thing is LOUD, but made me apreciate having something on my wrist, I bought another two (discontinued chicago chronograph and expedition north compass) with the M79 (Q automatic) and Giorgio Galli S1 in the want list. I hope timex keeps taking the affordable segment by storm, so we can finally get rid of the likes of MVNT and daniel wellington.
Timex has been killing it since the original Q, which was my first. A couple of T80 Pac Man in gold and silver followed. More recently I added two pieces from the Expedition series - the unbelievably value-for-money Expedition Scout and the gorgeous Expedition North Field Mechanical in black PVD steel. Very happy with every one of these.
I love what Timex are doing and the Q chrono here is a nice looking watch. I dont mind a quartz movement and really like this alot. Also love the center seconds and overall dimensions and easy swap battery compartment. Nice!
I just received my Q chrono panda today (Sep 2023). The top pusher does have a click to it so it seems Timex fixed the mushy pusher with the latest production run. The watch is beautiful but the dial is smaller than I expected. The bezel is 3mm so with a 40mm case size, that leaves only 34mm for the dial. Beware if you prefer a bigger dial.
Just found your channel and immediately subscribed. Timex's return to mechanical and automatic movements has been very positive in my opinion. I decided to purchase one of their dress watches recently, the Waterbury Automatic, specifically to reward them and support the trend. I like what they are doing! I'm a watch nerd on a budget, so I always look for great value when it comes to timepieces. Between Timex and the affordable, well spec'd offerings at Long Island Watch, I am slowly building a nice collection. I'm excited to see more of your content!
Timex is on a roll. Got the Timex Q Hodinkee LE, vintage design with a omega pie-pan and crosshair dial, and no date. This will probably be my next watch, if it isnt the Q GMT. Keep it up Timex!
I have very fond memories as a kid, my dad would take me to the Timex booth at The Big E (like a New England state faire) every year. We’d both get new watches. There’s currently a Citizen on my wrist, but I love my Timex Expedition Solar. The leather strap has aged great, it matches my wallet and belt perfectly.
Nice! I remember when my dad would wear a watch to work EVERYDAY during the late 1980s. I always thought it was some sort of MAGIC when he'd let me SHAKE his watch on Sunday evenings to get it running again, ready & set for Monday morning! Honestly, I still find it somewhat 'magical' that a wristwatch can essentially run 'forever', without ANY need for a battery, just as long as you wear it regularly. Unfortunately I don't remember what type of watch it was (likely a Timex), other than it being 'automatic' & GOLD COLOURED, with one of those stretchable metal bands. Although it must have been relatively inexpensive, since my dad was pretty cheap, and the power reserve ran out between Friday afternoon and Monday morning!
When I finally got rolling on picking up more watches, I was instantly sold on Timex's Navi-Harbor, got a g gorgeous with a deep green dial and bezel. Once I really clicked into the style of watch I really want, chronographs, Timex again is really getting me to want to pick up some of their offerings - this was one of them. Is it perfect, no, but damn it's still nice. Time will tell yet if I really pull the trigger.
great review, ended up buying one after this but could only get the braclet options. Do you know where you can get that style of leather strap with the 18mm to 22mm. Really struggling to find one
Timex has really been doing good recently. I'm really interested in their new Waterbury Dive with the supercompressor inner bezel. Another great video as always :)
Great video. Timex is refusing to be insignificant with these new lines. As to other $200-$500 watches…I’m puzzled how nobody seemingly talks about “Mathey-Tissot”. A great Swiss made watch with a vintage history in the business. I just don’t understand it being ignored.
Ya, I bought a Mathey-Tissot & I really regret that decision. It’s a “Hulk” lookalike & I’ve only been able to wear it once. It’s broken twice already & I don’t think it’s worth fixing this time around. Tissot, however, makes an incredible watch in that same price point
I have a Mathey-Tissot with a Pepsi bezel look that gets a fair number of compliments. I went inexpensive with a quartz however, no experience with their mechanicals.
Back in the 50s, I bought my first Timex after seeing John Cameron Swayze, an NBC news commentator, lauding Timex watches with “ it takes a beating and keeps on ticking” ads. It broke after 6months.
I’ll definitely look into these, thanks! I’ve been into watches for a long time & just got back into them 2 years ago heavy. Have a fossil blue speedway crystal(first watch age 17), now I just been on a buying what I like kick. Casio electro luminescence, Seiko 5 green dial Arabic. Now looking at accutrons, ingersolls & tudors, it’s all good stuff, appreciate the video man. Jordan from michigan.
I’ve watched with passing interest the Timex issues over the past few years but just haven’t been able to pull the trigger on a purchase. With the current state of my collection I haven’t come up with justification for buying more but this Chronograph may be the one. Thanks for the review Max
I had a very simple Timex quartz watch that was very nice but it was way too loud. In my father's words "That thing would keep you up at night." In any case I'd like to know if these Timex watch are quiet. It just a question worth asking.
Need advice. Which hand should one wear watch on, be it smartwatches also. I'm a left handed person. I'm confused I have tried on both the hands still can't make decide.
I'd like to see a Timex with the Seiko VK64 Mechanical-Quartz movement, but I don't know if Seiko would allow that LOL... besides there are many chronographs out there already with that movement. Still, it'd be interesting to see what Timex would come up with.
S.B. Foot tanning, responsible for the straps, is probably close to, if not the highest production American tannery in business today, responsible for producing leather for Red Wing and military boots. So yup, definitely the largest tannery in Redding, MN!
Just a note that the more recent GMT version comes with a bracelet that's totally acceptable for the price: quick-release, solid links, decent finishing. And maybe I misread the seemingly joking tone, but the town of Red Wing does produce some of the best leather in the country.
That Timex w&w is really nice - they should go down that route more! The case is reminiscent of Omega and Heuer of the 70s. Shinola have managed to go from Ronda Quartz to mechanical Sellita movements. Maybe Timex can also up their game and at least include Seiko or Citizen movements?
My cheap Tissot Quickster Chronograph has great button feel with a nice click when you press it. However my even cheaper Timex Waterbury has mushy buttons. Still Timex is still improving their offering I think.
That Timex W&W watch is so cool. Such a great 60s and 70s watch vibe with amazing colors, and I'm sad to have missed out on that. By the way, I love your glasses, can you tell me where to get those?
Coming from you, I’ll take another look at Timex, coming from other reviewers, there’s always a tinge of pity mixed with reluctant respect. You seem genuinely enthused by these time pieces. Thanks!
You definitely didn’t give the strap or tanning company the credit it deserves. It’s Red Wing, MN, (not “Redding”). This town is the home of Red Wing Shoes-the same producer of boots worn by our forefathers in the trenches of WWI (and my father when he goes out to split wood lol). SB Foot Tanning Co. is the main supplier of leather for Red Wing Shoes. Suffice to say, it’s high quality, especially for the price.
I think these comments are just way too demanding in tone. Theyve nothing on you and you made a great video. I Love the pick too. Tiny mistakes like that are still allowed in my book these days! Heck it even makes life beautiful to me! Its just one more step away from robotizing people and society.
I really want to get into watches, chronograph looked cool but I wasn't a watch wearer before so when doing my hunt I saw the Timex Waterbury Chronograph. And that watch scratched my itch. I still like window shopping for expensive chronograph but for now this will do. Timex is cheap and a great entry level watch with history.
It's funny you should show the WW75 Timex this morning. I started the engine on mine (Teal) yesterday. It falls into the size range I'm comfortable with and I like the vintage look - a lot more playful than my other watches.. A little manipulation of the strap softened it up fairly quickly. Did yours have a "Movement Japan" label on the back? I've confirmed that the label was applied in error.
Is this the "white" dial Timex demonstrated in the video? Because this doesn't look like it's white (even though video says they come in panda and reverse panda colors). I want this exact watch and bracelet, but having a hard time knowing which exact type this color combo is
My only gripe with it is, 50mm of water resistant. Why not atleast 100mm? But Q series chronographs are amazing. Waterbury Dive Chronograph is 100 mm btw.
Red Wing, Minnesota. Just like the boots, BEFORE the straps were stamped with "Handcrafted, Red Wing Shoe Leather, Red Wing Minn." in a diamond. The straps will match perfectly to some Red Wings, except for the stitching of the strap haha. Great Vid, awesome watches, big fan of your seiko 5 you quickly mentioned.
have both. The moonswatch is so much cheaper in quality (feels like a happy meal toy) but the pushers have must more tactile feedback. The timex on the other hand is heavy (in a good way) and feels like a well made timepiece. Both get equal wrist time
Timex is awesome. When I'm working, I'll notice someone's watch. Once in a while, it'a a Timex. Styling is just incredible. Very decent time pieces considering the price point. I have some models on my list.

The Panda Chrono is a looker!
Hi WatchCrunch, what's the model # of the Seiko cream waffle & grey dial? I can't find in google shooping. Your insight is highly appreciated.
Timex didn't make you regret the Moonswatch. The Moonswatch made you regret the Moonswatch.
I was about to write the same.
Whatever. I have a smoonswatch and also the 3861 Pro sapphire sandwhich. Both great, the moonswatch is fun and comfortable on an elastic strap.
Touché
It's why you shouldn't believe the hype

Red Wing own them - RW are vertically integrated
I prefer Horween, but they are neck and neck.

Timex really upped their game the last couple of years. Nice to have some great new options at the lower end of the market.
Definitely 👍

Being a watch collector but not a watch snob, I have three Timex watches in my collection. My favorite is the Waterbury Chronograph. I like the minimalist dial somewhat characteristic of a Junghans Chronograph.
Nice! Timex is very unpretentious
Great panda dial TIMEX, after all with the moonSwatch people didn't buy a cheap Speedmaster, rather a very expensive plastic, ...bio-ceramic...Swatch.
I am a collector of 6 Timex watches. I love it especially its Indiglo.
Yep, a q quartz and a weekender beater.
