    Rolex sell more Date-Justs for women than any other model. Yet the viewing demographic of watch channels on CZcams and Instagram is overwhelmingly male, and the (positive) female influencers predominantly focus on male and or unisex watches up to 40mm size. There’s very little content, influencers or audience focused on female only watches (lady Date-Justs et all)

    I am woman who loves watches and horology in general. I have some watches that might be considered men’s and others that are considered women’s. My daily is a 42mm black seamaster on a rubber strap. I wear watches on leather straps, stainless steel 3 link bracelets, 5 link bracelets, rubber straps, mesh bracelets! I have quartz and mechanical in my collection. When I wanted to look at dress watches I looked to Tudor and Longine. I have chosen the 2023 black bay blue 36mm with diamond hour makers! It’s a stunning watch, great quality for the money and the 5 link bracelet is lovely. Thanks for doing a video on watches for and about women!

    When I first got into watches in 2013, I remember reading an article that I was only one of 4% women hodinkee readers. It was a horrible time for women to be into watches, especially those who were into sports watches like myself. 99% of non-fashion/non-jewelry watches were too big for small wrists. And when I had googled "best watches for women" it was all gold, bling and mother of pearl. So frustrating. I even stepped away from hodinkee for a few years when I read an article "best watches to gift your wife/girlfriend" (i think cara wrote it...) 😫
    That after 11years 98% of watch viewers are still men is really sad to hear.

      Also, Tudor 54, there used to be 36 ml Seamasters, 36 ml Explorer 1's, all vintage & older than 90's watches will fit ya, also Daytonas &, &, big watches can look cool on small girls, or perhaps less robust Ladies.

      I actually had my mind set on a chronograph. I was also only going to have one watch (of course that never happened), so it had to be "perfect" 😅. I wanted a chrono for aesthetic purposes, it had to have a date window for work and still be appropriate for weekends and evenings.
      I actually did find the perfect watch, the Breguet Type XX Transatlantique 39mm.
      I have added other watches to my collection over the years, but I still wear the Type XX regularly and, after over a decade, I still think it's one of the most beautiful watches ever.

    CZ, T4YC. The industry has to learn a huge lesson. It's changed from one patronising range, of tiny tiny dial watches, so small that you couldn't really tell the time, to small watches with mother of pearl, gold bits, and diamonds. And now we have pastel shades, and weak "vanilla" case designs. Companies need to make proper designs, that stand alone, and if they come in less than 33mm case size, then the proportion have to really work together (unlike now, where the ratios look different and wrong from the larger sizes, up the range.

    • @ChronometerCheck
      @ChronometerCheck Před 19 dny

      100% agree. The genre of 'women's' watches has been fit into too narrow of a box and I think brands should really stop leaning on the same ol' and work on standalone cohesive designs that don't lean on these cliche design tropes like just making the watch smaller, with a pastel or MOP dial, and adding diamonds. I'm sure there is an audience that likes them, but few brands really branch out past that.
      But what do I know, maybe the market demand isn't there to do so.

  • @WMIYC
    @WMIYC Před 19 dny +1

    I sub to a number of watch content creators that are women. They rarely mention “women’s watches” which given the audience is understandable. I’d like to see the genre survive. I don’t think the world needs to experience a convergence of everyone’s taste into dive watches. I’m so tired of dive watches. I think there is potential for so called womens watches to blaze new design inspiration even for larger watches.

    one of the best womens sports watches to come out recently is the Omega AT 34mm...all the WR as in the larger model and a lovely display caseback to show the movement. The J12 was the only other sports watch I can think of that offered decent WR in 34mm cases with nice auto movements

    The center links of the two tone Tudors are only gold filled and not solid gold. As a women who collects watches, I would never wear a watch with fake gold, like i would never wear fake gold jewelry. Also a reason why Longines is totally irrelevant to me. 50% of their catalogue is PVD coated fake gold watches...💀💀

    For what it’s worth, my wife thinks that Nico Leonard is hilarious. Apparently he reminds her of her crazy Dutch relatives.
    Shopping for women’s watches is kind of odd because there’s really not a lot of good variety out there in the luxury space. Everyone seems to end up with Cartier. Rolex offers very little.
    But if you’re willing to go used, there are quite a few interesting Rolexes out there that they don’t make anymore, and often at pretty good prices because women’s watches are not considered nearly as desirable as men’s watches. So for a bargain hunter looking for a present, it’s not a bad space.

      @@nicolew1316 rolex makes them. Nobody buys them, the women want the 34mm and 36mm watches, or they just do the "boyfriend watch" thing and wear a dive watch or gmt. It's actually kind of a running joke that lady datejusts only exist to build a sales history for guys that want more desirable rolexes, they just buy the lady datejust in the window nobody else wants and gibe it to their mom or girlfriend or something. Nobody actually aspires to own a lady datejust, they receive them as gifts.

All my jewelry, including watches, used to be more delicate. Now, I definitely gravitate to larger bolder pieces.
